"He can be very stubborn sotis."

Prince Jarvan shook his head as he spoke:

"Once he makes up his mind, there's no changing it."

Xin Zhao said in a faint voice:

"I should have been there."

Prince Jarvan rubbed his eyes:

"Wouldn't that be defying the King's orders? No, you wouldn't do that, Uncle."

Prince Jarvan knew Xin Zhao would never leave King Jarvan. He stared at Xin Zhao and asked:

"What did he send you to do?"

Xin Zhao finally chose to answer truthfully:

"Deliver a letter…"

Not long before this, King Jarvan had asked Xin Zhao to deliver a letter.

But Xin Zhao was resolute:

"I am your personal guard, Your Majesty, I should not leave the palace."

But King Jarvan told him:

"I need you to deliver this letter, otherwise the situation will continue to worsen. The Soulless must be forced to stop to prevent the confrontation from escalating. It has co to this, there is no other choice!"

Xin Zhao began to say, "Your Majesty, I believe the wise course of action should not be to send —"

The King sharply interrupted him: "This is not a request, Steward, I order you to deliver this decree imdiately, without delay."

By the ti Xin Zhao returned, King Jarvan had already t his demise…

"He ordered you to leave, just to deliver a letter?"

Prince Jarvan let out a bitter laugh at this mont:

"He's always been like this, always putting the kingdom first. You know, on my fourteenth birthday, he didn't attend my sword ceremony because he had to et with the Shielded Council to discuss taxes."

"Of course," Xin Zhao said.

Prince Jarvan clenched his fists and looked at Xin Zhao, asking knowingly:

"I suppose you've already delivered the letter?"

"No."

Xin Zhao shook his head:

"I turned back imdiately after hearing the bells, returning to the palace as fast as I could."

Prince Jarvan said, gesturing to Xin Zhao's blood-stained outer garnt:

"And you ran into trouble on the way, I can tell by your appearance."

Prince Jarvan asked anxiously: "Mages?"

Xin Zhao nodded:

"And their accomplices."

In other words, the assassination of King Jarvan involved not only mages but also other forces within Demacia. The assassination was by no ans as simple as a re mage uprising.

Prince Jarvan scread hysterically:

"We should have executed all these mages long ago."

Xin Zhao watched the Prince warily. He had never heard him speak such vicious words.

Of course, he knew Demacia's stance against mages had always troubled the Prince.

Xin Zhao carefully chose his words: "I believe your father might have had a different view on this."

King Jarvan had always been pushing for the liberation of mages and the restoration of their human rights and freedom in Demacia.

Jarvan snapped: "And they killed him for it."

Nothing Xin Zhao could say would help, so he chose to remain silent.

The anger that had just erupted in Prince Jarvan's heart extinguished almost imdiately.

Tears welled up in his eyes, and he desperately tried to hold them back.

"I don't know what to do."

In that mont, he beca a child again, scared and alone.

Xin Zhao took a few steps forward, put down his spear, opened his arms, and tightly embraced Jarvan:

"My boy."

Then Prince Jarvan cried, his uncontrollable sobs making his whole body tremble. The tears he had held back now stread down Xin Zhao's face.

They held each other tightly for a mont, their shared grief binding them together, then they separated. Xin Zhao turned to pick up his spear from the ground, giving them both ti to compose themselves.

When he turned back, Prince Jarvan had changed his sweat-drenched shirt for a white linen robe with the crest of a blue-winged sword. He seed to have cald down.

"Now, you must beco the person you are destined to be. You must beco the leader."

"I don't feel ready."

"No leader is ever truly ready. At least, no good leader is."

"But you will be with , Uncle. You will assist ."

"I… I'm afraid that's not possible. Long ago, I made a vow that if anything were to befall your father, I would atone with my life."

"To whom did you make such a promise?"

"Grand Marshal Tianna Crownguard."

Prince Jarvan frowned. It was her again, Demacia's Grand Marshal Tianna Crownguard!

Prince Jarvan knew then that things were not so simple. He said to Xin Zhao:

"When you began to serve my father, you swore to protect Demacia, didn't you?"

Xin Zhao answered without thinking:

"Yes."

Prince Jarvan continued:

"It was Demacia that accepted your oath, not my father, and certainly not Tianna. Your duty to Demacia outweighs everything else."

Prince Jarvan extended his right hand:

"Are you willing to be my Steward, to serve as you served my father?"

"Are you willing to uncover the truth behind these events, and avenge my father!"

Xin Zhao knelt on one knee:

"It would be an honor… Your Majesty!"

Prince Jarvan clenched his fists:

"Good. These coming days will be difficult for you. I will find a way for you to pretend to retire and go into hiding…"

Xin Zhao's address had already changed:

"Your Majesty, what about your safety?"

Prince Jarvan imdiately replied:

"Garen."

And now, Tianna had transferred Garen, Jarvan's most loyal subordinate, leaving Jarvan alone in Demacia's Grand Capital. But what they didn't expect was that.

Xin Zhao, with his white hair, who had long since retired, was still the Steward of Demacia!

….

anwhile, Lux, carrying a pile of manuscripts, ran to Demacia's Grand Capital's huge landmark, the Justice Statue.

Lux climbed onto the shoulder of the massive statue, picked up the manuscripts in her hand, and gently stroked the statue's head beside her:

"Galio, I'm here again."

The giant humanoid stone statue remained motionless. Lux swung her legs, smiling as she looked at the manuscripts:

"Galio, I'm going to read you a few articles. These articles are novel and profound, the best I've ever seen. Let read them to you. The first one is 'diary of a madman'…"

"Oh, and recently I t a very interesting person. He's from Zaun and his na is Chen. He's my master now, and he wrote all these articles!"

"…"

After chatting with Galio, Lux returned.

At this mont, Powder was incredibly bored. She was good at scientific research, but she couldn't write articles. She tugged at Chen and loudly exclaid:

"I'm not like you, good at both academics and martial arts! I don't care, you have to play with !"

Chen put down his pen. Money had to be earned, but work was absolutely not as important as Powder:

"All right, all right! I'll play with you! What do you want to play?"

Powder pulled out a deck of playing cards:

"Let's play cards! I'll go call Fiora to join us!"

"Playing poker every day is boring. I'll teach you a new ga!"

Chen pulled out a box from sowhere. As soon as he opened it, countless small rectangular tiles appeared:

"I call it Mahjong!"

Powder was very happy:

"Yay!"

Because the playing cards Chen invented last ti were so much fun.

Chen continued:

"Mahjong requires four players. You, , and Fiora only make three!"

Powder was sowhat displeased: "Ah!"

Just then, Powder's savior returned. Powder imdiately latched onto her:

"My little rich lady, you're finally back! Hurry, hurry, we're one short!"

Chen was stunned:

"One short? Self-taught, huh?"

And so, the four of them really did start playing Mahjong…

Late at night, at two in the morning, the four of them were still battling. Chen suddenly played a blank tile.

Lux snatched it up and shouted:

"Mr. Su! I won, you paid! Money, money!"

Chen put on a sour face:

"Such bad luck…"

Before he could finish saying "bad," he suddenly heard the sound of the courtyard gate being kicked open.

The four of them imdiately beca alert. Chen pulled out his Black Cleaver, Powder picked up her Pow-Pow, Fiora placed her hand on her rapier, and Lux casually picked up a book.

Footsteps rapidly approached, and the door to their room was suddenly kicked open.

The leading man pointed his greatsword at them and shouted:

"Soul Hunter Corps, by order to investigate mages! Do not resist! Resistance leads to death!"
