The bridge was a furnace of screaming tal and chemical fire. Gunpowder, alchemical reagents, and Hextech dust burned in the chambers of a thousand rifles, generating the high-pressure gas needed to propel death across the gap. Yet, despite the heat of the ignition, the lead remained cold as it tore through the smog to claim lives.
The shrapnel Jinx had promised was doing its work, but it wasn't enough to break the resolve of the Piltover Guard. Unlike the local Enforcers, these n were the iron veterans of the Noxian borders—disciplined, bloodthirsty, and utterly convinced they were the heroes of the "City of Progress."
As the machine guns began to hiss with the scent of scorched oil, their barrels glowing a dull cherry-red from overheating, Chen saw the blue line surging forward.
"GRENADES!" Chen roared.
Fla Chompers clattered across the stone, snapping their iron jaws before erupting in plus of violet fire. The front line of the Guard was thrown into chaos, but as the smoke cleared, the survivors didn't retreat. They drew their bayonets.
"For the City of Progress!" an officer scread, firing a red flare into the murky sky. The Guard discarded their heavy shields, trading protection for speed. They charged the sandbag gaps with a suicidal fervor.
The massacre at the embrasures was total. An old veteran, his face a mask of scars, threw himself bodily against a machine gun nest. The Pow-Pow barked, sewing a dozen rounds into his chest, but he used his dying weight to pin the barrel down. Behind him, the flood followed. Blue beams of Hextech fire finally began to pour into the Zaunite side of the bridge.
The Dreadnought and the Prodigy
"You want to break the line? Try breaking !" Urgot bellowed.
His six chanical legs hissed with pressurized steam as he ignited his Chem-Tech Shield. He didn't just walk; he beca a living battering ram, slamming into the breach. His crab-legs pulverized the stone while his rotary cannon—boosted by the Gunslinger synergy—spat out a continuous stream of casings that sounded like a hail of coins on the pavent.
On the adjacent bridge, Ekko was a blur of blue light. The Piltover soldiers targeted him instantly, but Ekko moved with a preternatural grace. As the Hextech bolts closed in, the Z-Drive on his back humd. To the soldiers, Ekko seed to move like a ghost; to Ekko, the world had entered "Bullet Ti."
He twisted his body in mid-air, a perfect backbend that let the blue streaks of light pass inches from his chest. Before they could recalibrate, he launched his Tiwinder. The device spun like a lethal disc, tearing a rift in ti that swallowed the soldiers in its path, casting them into the sequential void.
"Phase Dive!"
Ekko vanished, reappearing instantly in the shadow of a Guard captain. His Clockwork Sword swung in a rising arc, the Z-Drive's resonance detonating the man's armor upon contact. The burst of speed from the impact allowed Ekko to dance into the next group before a single trigger could be pulled.
The Amorphous Combatant
While Ekko used precision, Zac used pure, kinetic chaos. The amorphous blob monster was a sight the Piltover Guard was entirely unprepared for.
Zac anchored his gooey hands into the bridge's iron girders and stretched his body back until he was taut as a bowstring.
"Elastic Slingshot!"
A thousand pounds of sentient green sli launched across the bridge, a whistling erald cot. He crashed into the center of the Tenth Column, the impact sending soldiers flying over the railings like discarded toys.
Zac's arms elongated, one catching a soldier in a sticky grip while the other delivered a long-range slap that sounded like a thunderclap. He slamd the two n together with sickening force, their breastplates buckling.
The Guard turned their rifles on him. Dozens of Hextech bullets buried themselves in Zac's translucent mass and exploded. But Zac didn't bleed; he just rippled. Small blobs of goo—his "cells"—were blown off his body, but as Zac stepped over them, they reabsorbed into his feet, knitting his wounds and restoring his mass instantly.
"What is that thing?!" a soldier scread, his rifle shaking.
Chen's tactical gamble had paid off. On the East Bridge, the Piltover Guard had found the one enemy their "armor-piercing" crystals couldn't break. Zac stood alone in the center of the bridge, a smiling, gelatinous wall of war.
