Talon leaned against the cold stone of the Piltover alley, his eyes fixed on the distant, smog-choked horizon of the Undercity. "It's almost ti," he muttered to Jikegar. "I'm going to collect my squad." With a flicker of movent, he vanished into the shadows, leaving only the scent of ozone and old blood.

In the Council Chambers, Jayce sought out Camille. He felt like a man walking through a forest of glass, unsure of who was a friend and who was a predator. "If we don't start this war," Jayce asked, his voice trembling, "will Zaun?"

Camille didn't look up from her tea. "How many centuries has the Sump breathed the waste of the spires, Jayce? Conflict is the only language the Twin Cities have ever shared. Whether today or tomorrow, the fire was always coming."

The Red-Haired On

At the Hexgate, a sleek, unmarked Noxian airship touched down with a pressurized hiss. A group of hooded figures disembarked in silence, their movents synchronized and lethal. Talon waited for them, but as the squad gathered, his eyes landed on a figure that didn't match the rest of the hooded initiates.

Standing in the center was a woman with vibrant, crimson hair. A jagged scar ran vertically across her left eye, but it only added a dangerous, wild allure to her sharp features. She twirled a jagged dagger with a nonchalance that masked a coiled killing intent.

"Why are you here, Katarina?" Talon asked, his voice tight.

"My father has been missing for years," she replied, the dagger coming to a rest against her palm. "You finally find a lead in this shithole of a city, and you think I'm staying in Noxus? I'm here for the truth, Talon. And I'm here for blood."

"Follow the plan," Talon warned. "I'll give you the details on the way."

The Midnight Massacre

Across the river, Zaun was a fortress of sandbags and grim determination. Chen stood in the command post, mapping out a counter-attack. "The bridge is down. If they cross by boat, they're sitting ducks," he told Ekko and the others. "But we must be wary. Camille is the variable we can't see, and the Noxians... they don't fight like Enforcers."

He was right.

Two seconds before the alarm sounded, the Riverside Strongpoint went silent. A group of hooded shadows had erged from the pipes beneath the floorboards. In a blur of silver, the machine gunners were slaughtered before they could even shout.

The defensive line was decapitated in an instant. With the machine guns silenced, Jikegar's troops boarded their assault boats and began the crossing.

"Assassins!" Chen roared, smashing through a window as he saw the hooded figures moving through the camp. "To the riverbank! Now!"

The Dance of Death

Chen hit the ground and activated Turbo Chemtank, his lamppost a golden blur as he crushed the skull of an encroaching assassin. Behind him, Talon appeared like a ghost.

"THROAT CUT!"

Chen anticipated the blink. He spun his streetlamp into a Counter Strike, the iron pole clanging against Talon's wrist-blade. Before Talon could recover, Ekko lunged forward, his blue light-sword shimring. He delivered a rising slash, but Talon exploded into a ring of throwing knives and vanished into the smog.

"Behind you!" Ekko scread.

A dagger whistled past Chen's nose. Before he could turn, a flash of red hair blurred past him.

"SHUNPO!"

Katarina materialized at the dagger's location, her body spinning in a lethal vortex of steel. Her blade carved a deep, horizontal gash across Chen's lower back. Blood soaked his shirt instantly.

"Decimate!" Chen roared, spinning his axe in a desperate arc.

Katarina laughed—a cold, lodic sound—and blurred out of the way. She reappeared behind Ekko, her daggers aid for his heart.

"PARALLEL CONVERGENCE!"

Ekko didn't dodge; he shattered. His Z-Drive resonated, tearing a hole in reality. A golden echo of Ekko appeared at his position from four seconds prior. The wound on his shoulder vanished as the tiline snapped back.

Chen ignored the burning pain in his back and stared at the red-haired woman standing amidst the carnage. He knew that face. He knew that style.

"Katarina!" Chen spat, gripping his lamppost.

The Battle of the Two Cities had just beco a playground for the deadliest blades in Valoran.
