March sunlight floods through the Burbank shop's windows.
Two thousand square feet of empty potential. My second location. Finally real.
"The feng shui is excellent!" Raj announces, spinning in the middle of the floor.
"There's nothing here yet," I point out.
"Which is why the energy flows freely!"
Leonard and Sheldon are asuring wall space for shelving. Howard's photographing everything "for the mories."
My new employees stand by the counter looking overwheld.
Jake's 23, fresh out of USC film school, knows comics inside and out. Marcus—yes, I hired my forr rival as the other employee, the irony isn't lost on anyone—brings 15 years of retail experience.
"This is really happening," Jake says.
"This is really happening."
"You're opening a second location."
"I am."
"At 26."
"Twenty-seven now. Birthday was last month."
"Still. That's—Mr. Bloom, that's insane."
"Call Stuart. And yeah, it's pretty insane."
The grand opening draws exactly the crowd I hoped for.
Warner Bros employees on lunch break. Universal Studios animators. Three people from Nickelodeon. A producer from Marvel Studios who rembers from consulting gigs.
The Magnetism power's working perfectly. Industry people feel drawn here, can't quite explain why.
First day sales: $6,247.
Leonard whistles at the register total. "That's more than your entire first week at Pasadena."
"Different market. Industry professionals have disposal inco."
"And you positioned this perfectly." He surveys the shop. "Near studios, easy parking, comfortable space. You actually planned this."
"Shocking, I know."
Sheldon approaches with his tablet. "I've calculated optimal inventory distribution between locations. Pasadena requires more back issues and collectibles. Burbank should focus on new releases and high-end rchandise."
"Already ordered accordingly."
"Your business acun has improved substantially."
"Thanks, Sheldon."
"It's statistically anomalous but observable."
Of course it is.
Closing ti, I stand in my second shop.
Six months since lissa left. Six months of grief, then dating casually, then just... moving forward.
The breakup hurt. But she's thriving in Seattle—we text occasionally, carefully friendly. And I'm thriving here with two shops and growing consulting work.
Bitcoin hit $1 per coin last week. My position's worth $30,000 now. The gang still mocks it, but less enthusiastically. Hard to mock 2000% returns.
Apple stock's at $85, position worth $60,000.
Total portfolio: $95,000.
Combined with shop profits, I've earned $180,000 in six months.
At 27 years old.
From supernatural cheating.
Howard finds staring at the empty shop.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Just—processing."
"You did it. Two shops. Both profitable. You're actually building sothing."
"We're building sothing. You guys are partners."
"You're the vision. We're just along for the ride." He punches my shoulder lightly. "Also, I t soone."
"Yeah?"
"Bernadette. Microbiologist at my work. She's—Stuart, she's amazing."
"Not creepy about it?"
"Your coaching worked. I'm being genuine, asking questions, treating her like a person." He grins. "We have a third date this weekend."
"Howard, that's great."
"Your turn's coming. You've been single six months. Ti to get back out there."
"Maybe."
"Definitely. Your success-to-dating ratio is off. Fix that."
He's not wrong. But dating feels complicated when you're hiding supernatural advantages and building an empire on stolen knowledge.
Driving ho—I have a car now, used BMW bought cash—I think about the six months.
lissa leaving hurt. Took until March to stop checking my phone hoping she'd changed her mind.
But the shops kept growing. Pasadena now has three employees. Burbank opens with two. I'm managing five people across two locations.
Consulting work expanded—Big Bang Theory renewed for season two, signed retainer deals with two other productions.
The gang's all evolving. Howard with Bernadette. Raj dating more confidently. Leonard published his first major paper. Sheldon's just... Sheldon, but more tolerant sohow.
And I'm—
What am I?
Successful. Lonely. Guilty. Proud. Isolated. Connected.
All of it simultaneously.
The powers work exactly as promised. Each success compounds into the next. Confidence breeds opportunity breeds more success.
But the secrets grow heavier. Sheldon's pattern docuntation gets more detailed. Leonard's suspicions deepen. Eventually, the math won't work. Eventually, soone's going to demand explanations I can't give.
But that's tomorrow's problem.
Tonight, I have two profitable shops, five good employees, consulting inco, and investnts compounding toward millions.
Tonight, success tastes sweet despite the guilt.
My phone buzzes at a red light.
Leonard: Second shop looks great. Proud of you.
Sheldon: Inventory optimization spreadsheet attached. Review before Monday.
Howard: Bernadette says you should et her friend Katie. Thoughts?
Raj: The cosmic energy between both locations is very auspicious!
I smile at their ssages.
The gang. My found family. Built on lies and secrets, but genuinely caring anyway.
That's worth more than any amount of money.
The light turns green.
I drive toward my penthouse—2,000 square feet of success I never imagined possible.
