Now reading: Chapter 39: Child of Fortune from As the Beloved Eldest Disciple, I Just Want to Get Off Work, a Xianxia novel by wuxiafull.

Just as he was thinking, a chanical voice suddenly rang out in his mind: “Ding, lucky one detected.”

Lu Fengmian froze. “Child of Fortune?”

He looked at the youth beneath the tree again. Qi Refining, fifth stage; an outer sect disciple by status, yet dressed in faded, whitened old clothes, with an air of “ordinary” from head to toe.

【Na: Little Jin.】

【Background: A direct descendant of the Xiao family. In his early years, his elders arranged a marriage alliance with the Bai family. As tis changed, the Xiao family declined. Three months ago, his fiancée and her elders ca to publicly dissolve the engagent. Xiao Jin felt humiliated, left ho in anger, and joined Lingyun Sect.】

Hearing that, Lu Fengmian was stunned. He sighed inwardly. “Wow, this character setup is way too classic.”

As for the old broken-engagent cliché—“Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river; do not bully the poor youth”—he had already seen that trope far too many tis in novels in his previous life.

【Current status of target “Child of Fortune”: Corruption tendency is rising.】

【Host, please intervene in ti and prevent the target from going down the wrong path.】

Lu Fengmian: “……”

So Senior Brother also had to moonlight as a psychological counselor?

Forget it. He was long since used to this kind of side job.

He gathered his thoughts and looked down at the youth beneath the tree, who was still throwing punches. Sure enough, arranged marriages in the feudal era were a terrible idea.

To have one’s engagent publicly annulled—such humiliation was enough to make anyone fall to the dark side. But since this had already happened to him, then... wait.

Lu Fengmian suddenly thought of sothing and asked the system in his heart, “Why is his cultivation only at the fifth stage of Qi Refining? Isn’t he supposed to be a heaven’s favored one? Shouldn’t he be extraordinarily gifted?”

【The Child of Fortune possesses the Primordial Myriad Manifestations ridians, with trendous potential, but they require the Chaos Sky Crystal to activate.】

“Chaos Sky Crystal? What is that? Where can it be found?”

【Host, please explore on your own.】

System, you really were good at making people angry.

He glanced at the sweat-drenched youth beneath the tree again. “Primordial Myriad Manifestations ridians”—that sounded very powerful. But as for the Chaos Sky Crystal, he had never even heard of it.

Lu Fengmian thought for a mont, then quietly slipped down from the tree, preparing to leave. This sort of matter could not be rushed; he should go back first and investigate the situation clearly.

He turned around, and his toes had just touched the ground when a wary voice rang out behind him. “Who’s there?!”

Lu Fengmian paused, then turned and t the youth’s sharp gaze directly. Xiao Jin had already withdrawn his fists and assud a defensive stance.

This child was highly vigilant. He decided not to keep hiding and stepped out from behind the tree, brushing the leaves from his sleeve.

“Don’t be nervous,” he said in a gentle tone. “I was just passing by.”

Xiao Jin did not move. His gaze remained fixed on Lu Fengmian the entire ti, like a wary young beast, his whole body taut. His fists had not fully withdrawn, and his fingertips were slightly curled, ready to strike again at any mont.

Lu Fengmian stood where he was and did not walk forward. “I’m from Luo Xia Peak,” he said, pointing at himself in a casual tone. “This path is very quiet.”

Xiao Jin’s gaze rested on his face for a mont, then shifted to the brocade robe on his body. The fabric and embroidery—one look was enough to tell that this was absolutely not sothing an outer sect disciple could afford to wear.

“...Greetings, Senior Brother.” He lowered his head and gave a slight bow, his voice sowhat muffled. The etiquette was flawless, but the distance in his tone was hard to conceal.

Lu Fengmian nodded and said nothing more. He waved a hand at the youth and turned to continue walking deeper into the woods. After taking a few steps, he stopped. “Oh, right,” he said without turning his head, “your technique is practiced quite well.” After saying that, he continued forward.

Xiao Jin stood where he was and watched that figure disappear into the shadows of the trees. He pressed his lips together, withdrew his gaze, and resud throwing punches.

After Lu Fengmian had gone so distance, he slowed his pace. He looked back. Through layer upon layer of tree shadows, he could still vaguely see that sweat-soaked figure. Fifth stage of Qi Refining. Myriad Manifestations ridians. Chaos Sky Crystal.

He withdrew his gaze and continued onward.

Forget it—I should go back first and consult the records. In any case, I had already identified the person, so there was no need to rush.

During the next two days, Lu Fengmian added a fixed task to his schedule: going to the Scripture Pavilion.

He turned over every book related to the treasures of heaven and earth—《Records of Strange Objects》, 《Register of Heavenly and Earthly Treasures》, 《Ancient Verification of Strange Objects》... one after another, until his eyes blurred. Unfortunately, he found nothing.

Even Elder Shu was shocked by his diligence. When he saw Lu Fengmian step into the Scripture Pavilion for the fifth ti, Elder Shu’s figure of light erged from the wall and slowly said:

“Boy Lu, you’ve been running back and forth these past few days even more diligently than a rat. Are you planning to flip through every single book I have here?”

Lu Fengmian gave a bitter smile. “Elder Shu, you jest. I’m only looking for one thing, but I still haven’t found it.”

“What is it?”

“The Chaos Sky Crystal.”

Elder Shu fell silent for a mont. The light around him swayed slightly, as though he were thinking. After a while, he shook his head. “Never heard of it.”

Lu Fengmian sighed. Just as he was about to thank him and leave, Elder Shu spoke again. “Since you’ve searched everywhere and still haven’t found it, then it’s very likely that it has not yet appeared in the world. An item of that level—if the ti is not right, no one will be able to find it.”

Lu Fengmian froze. So this thing had not even appeared in the world yet? He rembered the system’s earlier words, “Host, please explore on your own,” and imdiately felt that those words were indeed true. A treasure that extraordinary, sounding that astonishing—if it could simply be found casually in the Scripture Pavilion, that would have been far too strange.

“Many thanks for Elder Shu’s guidance.” He bowed in thanks. Elder Shu gave a cold snort and was just about to retreat back into the wall when he suddenly rembered sothing. “Oh, right, since you’re here, have you morized that 《Explanation of the Sword of Seven Cloud Seals》 yet?”

Lu Fengmian: “……”

“Consulting materials does not interfere with morization,” Elder Shu said righteously. “Recite it. Once you’re done, you can leave.”

Lu Fengmian: “……”

One stick of incense later, Lu Fengmian walked out of the Scripture Pavilion, his mind still echoing with that obscure and difficult ancient text. Elder Shu nodded in satisfaction and let him go.

Lu Fengmian rubbed his temples and walked toward Luo Xia Peak. He had not found any information about the Chaos Sky Crystal, yet another ancient text had been stuffed into his head. Still, Elder Shu was right. Since the Chaos Sky Crystal had not yet appeared in the world, there was no use being anxious now.

What he could do now was... Start building up favorability?

After all, when the day ca that the Chaos Sky Crystal appeared, he could not exactly rush straight up to Little Jin and say, “Here, use this quickly.” That would be too strange. He had to first beco a familiar face to Little Jin, and only then would giving him the crystal seem natural and justified.

Lu Fengmian nodded, feeling that this line of thought was correct. Just as he was planning to go take another walk through that little forest tomorrow, a hurried figure suddenly descended from the sky.

“Senior Brother!”

Lu Fengmian stopped walking. The person wore a dark blue sword robe, and from the sword at his waist hung a string of bright red sword tassels—it was He Shi’an. Lu Fengmian raised his brows. He had given those sword tassels to He Shi’an, yet he had not expected that the boy would really wear them.

“Junior Brother He.” He withdrew his gaze. “What is it?”

He Shi’an scratched the back of his head and gave a shy smile. “Um... Senior Brother, are you free today?”

Lu Fengmian looked at him. “Say it first.”
