Now reading: Chapter 62: Breaking Down the Numbers! from Ascending the Jade Palace, a Martial arts novel by wuxiafull.

A reader once asked: "Since this is a modern soul we're dealing with, shouldn't the differences between the major cultivation realms be quantified? Even if soone is an absolute genius, bridging the gap between realms needs a logical frawork."

My answer is twofold. First, yes, we can absolutely break it down mathematically.

However, the additional world-building explanations I included earlier to establish this logic weren't exactly popular with so readers. That is why in yesterday's update, I only included a brief explanation at the end of Chapter 59 without diving into hard data, mostly because I didn't want to get bogged down in the tedious calculations.

But since you asked, let's break it down properly. Second, I previously replied to a reader in the comnt section who felt that fighting above one's realm defied logic. In a spiritual duel, combat power relies heavily on secret inheritances in addition to raw cultivation base. Lower-level cultivators possess wildly varying degrees of secret arts, and this variance is the very core of how one overcos a higher realm.

Conversely, higher-level cultivators have lived for a long ti. They have accumulated all the necessary secret arts, which narrows the performance gap between peers and makes fighting above one's realm significantly more difficult. This is a natural progression within a logical system.

Now that your question is answered, let's start the math!

We know Wang Xianzhou's cultivation base is at the Qi Refining stage. Considering his character setup as a master of magical combat and his Peak Qi Refining cultivation base, when we convert his raw power into actual combat strength, his base rating is a 10. This is the absolute ceiling for the Qi Refining stage; otherwise, he never would have passed the martial trials to beco an Immortal Alliance Emissary.

Wang Xianzhou attempted Foundation Establishnt four tis but failed every single ti. However, this process of repeatedly pushing for breakthroughs allowed his spiritual energy to gradually tower over other Qi Refining cultivators. In terms of raw strength, that calculates to: 10 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.1 = 14.641.

Next, if we factor in the Wang Clan's secret arts, his custom-refined artifacts, and high-grade Foundation Realm talismans, the equation becos: 14.641 2 (Wang Clan secret arts) 1.5 (custom artifacts) * 1.25 (high-grade talismans) = 54.90375.

Note that the subsequent multipliers decrease proportionally to account for the marginal utility of these contributing factors. In so traditional cultivation novels, multipliers completely ignore marginal utility and stack mindlessly, resulting in numbers that shoot up by tens of thousands of tis. Personally, I don't care for that approach. Given the fantasy setting of Xianxia literature, neither writing style is objectively wrong. It is simply a subjective creative choice, and I prefer to take diminishing returns into account.

Wang Xianzhou also used to be a mber of the Red Lantern Illumination Sect, where he learned the secret arts of one of the Ten Sects. Later, he joined the Immortal Alliance, mastering their secret arts along with their exclusive, top-tier Qi Refining ultimate techniques, such as [Mind-Piercing Needle]. As the pinnacle organization of the world, the upper limit for cultivators under the Immortal Alliance is relatively higher at every stage. Note that a higher ceiling does not an everyone within the organization can actually reach it.

54.90375 1.125 1.0625 * 1.03125 = 67.678.

With a rough calculation, Wang Xianzhou's combat strength cos out to around 68.

Now let's look at the baseline cultivation ratings for each realm:

A Qi Induction cultivator ranges from 0 to 1.

A Qi Refining cultivator ranges from 1 to 10.

A Foundation Establishnt cultivator ranges from 30 to 100.

Let's take the absolute lowest baseline for a Foundation Establishnt cultivator, which is 30. Assuming a 75% conversion rate from raw cultivation base to actual combat strength, this particular Foundation Establishnt cultivator's baseline combat rating is 22.5.

Achieving Qi Refining Slaying Foundation Establishnt naturally requires targeting a weaker Foundation Establishnt cultivator. I am not using the absolute weakest example for this comparison; the only tric I dampened was the conversion rate, and even then, I gave it a generous 75%.

A weaker Foundation Establishnt cultivator might possess secret arts, but they won't be high-quality ones. Even if they manage to join a major sect, they have to start as low-level laborers and won't imdiately receive the sect's core Foundation Realm techniques. We can assu their standard weapons, spiritual artifacts, and talismans are decent, and give them a single life-saving trump card.

22.5 1.75 (standard secret arts) 1.263 (major sect arts) 1.188 (weapons and spiritual artifacts) 1.094 (high-grade talismans) * 1.047 (trump card) = 67.6713.

Even when pitted against a reasonably capable Foundation Establishnt cultivator, Wang Xianzhou's final rating is still higher. Cultivators of this caliber are by no ans rare in this world. Take Wu Jinyan as an example: even if he manages to achieve Foundation Establishnt in the future, his final combat rating will absolutely never reach this level. During his peak, Wang Xianzhou could slaughter soone like Wu Jinyan—even a few years after Wu Jinyan's breakthrough to Foundation Establishnt—as easily as slaughtering a chicken.

Low-level cultivators have short lifespans, and many have yet to integrate into the systems of the major sects, leaving their personal techniques full of flaws. Once they reach Foundation Establishnt, they have to make up for those deficiencies. This redial process provides yet another avenue for the major sects to exploit them. Of course, being exploited ans one still possesses value. I am rely outlining the philosophy of the world, which does not an I personally endorse it. But whether I agree with it or not, this is simply how things operate.

In short, as a combat genius of the Wang Clan, an Emissary of the Immortal Alliance, and an inner disciple of the Red Lantern Illumination Sect, Wang Xianzhou's journey of cultivation pushed his strength to the absolute peak of the Qi Refining stage. Therefore, when facing certain Foundation Establishnt cultivators, he can indeed achieve a cross-realm kill within the power system established in this novel.
