A blaring alarm echoed throughout the city.

"What… what's going on?"

Caldor ca to an abrupt stop, frantically glancing about.

"Hey, it's not all in my head, right? There's really an alarm sounding?"

He finally turned towards his date, Nira, whose face had turned tense.

"…I can hear it too."

"Really? What the hell… sounds like it's coming from the whole city."

They were currently within the grand halls of the coliseum, and though he couldn't see the outside world, his sense was keen enough to tell that much.

"It could be sothing serious," Caldor muttered.

'I doubt it, though.'

Since Atticus beca god, when has there ever been such a significant event involving the whole city? However, with the recent appearance of the voidlings, he couldn't just ignore the warning.

'Shit!'

Caldor couldn't help but curse. The date he'd painstakingly put in place was about to be ruined. Where would he get another chance like this again?

'There's no choice.'

He fixed his eyes on Nira.

"It's probably a false alarm. But to be safe, let's regroup with the others."

"…Okay."

As Nira nodded, Caldor took advantage of the urgency of the situation and grabbed her hand as they made their way through the hallways.

'Yes! She didn't refuse!'

A smile couldn't help but form on his face as they ran. Though his date had been cut short, at least he'd gained sothing from it.

'I'll get her contact after this. Even after the event tomorrow, we can still link up.'

They burst into a large courtyard connecting different sections of the coliseum. As Caldor sighted multiple figures spread across, he ca to an abrupt stop.

'What are they doing here?'

They were the other champions participating in the contest. Caldor could recognize their affiliation with a glance.

'Surnix Hold.'

His eyes narrowed. It was the dead of night, yet they were each donned in battle gear, staring at him with cold eyes, arms gripping weapons.

'They're here for …'

The realization ca with an instinctive tightening of his grip. He froze the mont he felt Nira's arm in his. He was holding her hand!

'Shit! She's also a Surnix hol—'

Slash!

Crimson blood splattered across the paved floor, followed by a low thud.

Caldor glanced down, and the mont he sighted his severed wrist on the floor, he felt his pulse drop.

"M-my hand."

He looked upwards just in ti to see Nira settling back into a stance, blade in hand.

'S-she severed my arm?'

Though his mind worked at an insane speed, Caldor found himself rooted in place, too shocked to move.

"This date… was all a lie?"

He asked, but all he received was Nira's detached gaze.

She flowed forward in one seamless motion, her blade flashing toward his neck.

'Shit!'

Caldor brought his remaining arm up just in ti and the sword stabbed straight through it.

He leaned forward, forcing the blade to veer off course.

'Shit, shit!'

An overwhelming pain engulfed his body, but he ignored it. First, he had to think.

'The others… they're also here to kill . Aren't they all under mana contract? Not important right now!' He cleared his head. 'I need distance!'

Suddenly, the pressure on his arm vanished. The blade had turned weightless, forcing his body out of balance.

'She let go of it!'

Nira reclined smoothly, her body spinning. From her thigh, another blade flashed free. She thrust again, and Caldor found his eyes filled completely by the blur of steel.

'I… can't escape.'

A streak of white pierced through the courtyard, colliding with Nira's blade. Sparks flared in jagged bursts, dancing in the reflection of Caldor's eyes.

'Who?'

He focused on the new figure and a wave of relief washed over him.

"Ember!"

As her spear clashed with Nira's blade, frost bled from Ember's skin, compressing into shards that tore towards her.

Nira's eyes changed violently, and she imdiately fired back, creating distance.

A deep silence settled on the area, broken only by the alarm blaring through the city.

"I can't stress enough how glad I am to see you, sis!" Caldor said. He manipulated the water elent to heal his wounds and stop the bleeding. "Nira suddenly attacked and severed my ha—"

His eyes widened when he couldn't find his arm on the ground. "My hand! I can't find it!"

"There." Ember suddenly said, gripping her spear tightly.

Caldor followed her eyes to one of the Surnix Hold mbers surrounding them. His severed arm hovered in a do in front of the man as he made multiple hand signs in the air.

'What's he doing?'

In the next mont, the arm abruptly vanished.

Caldor narrowed his eyes.

'He teleported it?'

No matter how much he thought, he couldn't figure out why. What the hell do they need his arm for?

'That's not important right now, we need to handle this situation.'

He hadn't lied earlier, he was truly relieved at Ember's presence. The whole Surnix Hold team was present, which was five grandmasters enemies.

Though they were obviously outnumbered, he knew no one except Atticus more dedicated to training than Ember. Now, surviving this situation was possible.

"You couldn't even complete a simple mission, Nira. I'm disappointed."

A man of imposing build advanced forward, staring at the duo coldly.

'Their leader…' Though Nira didn't respond, her darkened expression expressed her anger at the failed attempt.

'Fucking bitch.'

She was angry that she hadn't been able to kill him?

'To think I fell for her.'

Caldor slowly unsheathed his blade, his deanor changing. He stared at them coldly.

"Fight first, ask questions later?"

Ember swept her spear to the side, wisps of frost leaking from her form.

Across from them, the Surnix Hold mbers drew their weapons in silence.

As their eyes began to glow, a deep coldness spread through the courtyard.

Their voices ca as one.

"Domain."

At the sound of the blaring alarm, Aurora paused her steps.

'What's going on?'

From the way it sounded, it ca from a distance away.

'Its city wide. Is it the voidlings?'

To Aurora, this was the most reasonable conclusion. Since the start of the new Eldoralth, never had there ever been a crisis involving the entire city.

'It has to be.'

Aurora stared at the hallway with a frown.

'There's an ergency. Should I leave her?'

She'd been following Zoey monts ago before the alarm echoed. Regrouping with the others was the wisest choice right now.

Aurora sighed.

'I'll get her first.'
