The capital beneath the night sky revealed a unique beauty in its silence, making Zuko feel both familiar and strangely distant.
For a mont, countless mories surged through his mind, filling him with emotion.
He had returned.
He had imagined many ways he might one day return, but overthrowing Ozai's rule had definitely never been among them.
When he first heard the plan from Iroh, he had been unable to believe it.
Fortunately, he was no longer the naive boy he had once been.
In their search for the Avatar, he and Iroh had wandered across the world over the past few years, gaining knowledge and surviving many dangers.
More importantly, he had been constantly learning and thinking.
By now, he felt he should finally be able to answer Kahn's question.
That was also one of the reasons he had decided to return.
Returning to the main matter.
Under cover of night and clouds, Four Directions successfully brought Zuko to the eting place agreed upon with Kahn.
It was only an ordinary patch of wilderness, with nothing special about it.
After observing the surroundings for a while, Zuko asked Four Directions,
"What should we do now?"
Four Directions replied,
"Kahn said to wait here."
"He has already arranged for soone to pick you up."
Zuko nodded in understanding.
Although so doubts still lingered, since this was Kahn's decision, there should not be any problem.
After answering Zuko's question, Four Directions transford back into East, South, West, and North, to his surprise, and began playing among themselves.
The four of them always seed able to find sothing fun whenever they were together.
Zuko was not bored either.
He watched the four little spirits curiously from the side.
They carried an inexplicable dreamlike quality, as spirits often did.
More importantly, they could speak and transform, which felt rather magical.
This was his first ti seeing spirits, and yet these legendary beings were Kahn's companions.
Thinking about it felt sowhat unbelievable.
Combined with Kahn's miraculous abilities and the astonishing plan now unfolding, Zuko could not help sighing.
He was clearly the one who had been traveling the world.
So why did it feel like Kahn had experienced even more?
"Wait, honored spirits."
"Please be quiet."
"Sothing seems to be approaching."
After a while, Zuko suddenly noticed unusual movent in the nearby trees.
Unsure whether it was friend or foe, he imdiately signaled for East, South, West, and North to quiet down and raised his guard to the highest level.
Suddenly, a figure burst from the bushes, delivering a sharp flying kick straight toward Zuko's face.
Zuko's heart skipped a beat.
Fortunately, he was already on alert.
He agilely dodged the attack with footwork while countering with a punch.
However, his opponent was agile and light.
They actually grabbed his wrist in midair, using the montum to twist their body and attack again.
Zuko raised his other hand to block, then shook hard and forced the attacker back.
Just as he was about to counterattack, the opponent landed lightly and spoke in a familiar mocking tone.
"Your skills have improved a little, it seems."
"Looks like I won't need to hand you over to Father for now."
"…Azula?"
Zuko hesitated.
A sliver of moonlight pierced the clouds, illuminating the newcor's figure.
With that familiar malicious smile on her face, who else could it be but Azula?
He imdiately breathed a sigh of relief, then said to her in exasperation,
"You're still the sa."
"Completely unchanged."
"What if I had countered with firebending?"
"Using firebending in this place, under these circumstances, would only prove you're still the sa unimproved idiot."
Azula scoffed.
"And who gave you the confidence to think your firebending could hurt ?"
"Your glorious record of never once beating ?"
"…Forget it."
"I don't want to argue with you."
Zuko took a deep breath, telling himself that he was no longer the child he had once been and had no need to compete with her.
"It seems our dear brother has beco a cute, obedient little baby."
"How touching."
Azula showed a satisfied expression, which once again made a vein throb on Zuko's forehead.
This person was as irritating as ever.
Forgive him, but no matter what, he simply could not act warmly toward her.
"Alright, since soone clearly doesn't want to see his sister at all…"
"Are you two done talking?"
Azula was about to continue, spreading her hands dramatically, when another graceful figure erged from the bushes and interrupted her impatiently.
Azula frowned unhappily.
"Don't you know you just ruined my entrance sequence?"
"That's because your announcent was too long."
The newcor retorted without ceremony.
Azula was completely unprepared and was, for once, left speechless.
"So… since that's the case, I guess I don't need to hide anymore, right?"
The last petite figure carefully erged from the bushes as well and greeted Zuko.
"Long ti no see, Zuko."
But Zuko paid no attention to the last person's greeting.
Nor did he care about Azula's rare awkwardness.
His attention was completely fixed on the figure in front of him.
She had grown taller.
She had beco more beautiful.
Her expression was as calm as ever.
No matter what, she was the person he had longed for all this ti.
Mai.
Mai walked directly past Azula, stopped in front of Zuko, and stared at him intently.
"Don't you have anything to say, Prince?"
"Mai, I… that…"
Before seeing Mai, Zuko had imagined countless things he might say.
But now, he could only stamr, completely unsure what to do.
In the end, however, he cald himself and spoke from the heart.
"I really missed you."
Hearing this, Mai's lips curved into an almost imperceptible smile, but it quickly vanished.
With a stern expression, she scolded him.
"What I hate most are people who only say empty words."
Hearing that, Zuko imdiately rushed to explain.
"No, I didn't."
"I really an—mmph—"
Mai directly sealed his mouth.
"!!!"
Ty Lee's eyes widened in disbelief from the side, and she imdiately covered them with both hands.
But the large gaps between her fingers clearly failed to block even the slightest bit of her view.
Azula turned her head away in disgust.
Compared to Mai's interruption earlier, she disliked the current scene even more.
And upon seeing it, Kahn's image involuntarily appeared in her mind, stirring a ripple through her heart.
Far away, Kahn directly closed his spirit sight.
That scene was simply too damaging to his worldview.
He suddenly felt very fortunate that he had not personally gone to pick up Zuko, and therefore did not have to endure such damage in person.
Sotis, the difference between people was truly greater than the difference between people and dogs.
After a long while, the two slowly separated.
At that mont, Mai looked at the still sowhat dazed Zuko and finally revealed a faint smile.
"Still don't understand?"
"Actions speak louder than words, idiot."
Hearing this, Azula quietly perked up her ears and secretly glanced at the two of them.
Seeing their foolishly happy expressions, she silently carved that sentence into her heart.
That move seed rather useful.
Azula felt she had learned sothing very valuable.
