"Hmm, what's wrong?"

Iroh noticed that Kahn's gaze had suddenly beco a little strange.

"Nothing."

Kahn did not dare voice the thoughts in his head.

If he did, he would probably earn himself a beating.

Following Iroh's earlier question, he said, "I don't really care, as long as peace can be achieved as soon as possible."

"But objectively speaking, the Earth Kingdom and the Water Tribes don't seem capable of winning."

"A Fire Nation victory is only a matter of ti, isn't it?"

As soone who had transmigrated into this world, Kahn felt no real sense of identity or belonging toward the Fire Nation.

Naturally, he felt even less attachnt to the Earth Kingdom or the Water Tribes, which currently existed to him only through books.

Although conquest was absolutely wrong, it truly was not his business, nor was it his place to interfere.

Moreover, just as he had said, although the resistance from the Earth Kingdom and the Water Tribes remained fierce, they could only defend.

They could not even launch a proper counterattack.

And now, even their ability to resist seed increasingly fragile in the face of the Fire Nation's power.

Although the Earth Kingdom and the Water Tribes had reclaid considerable territory by taking advantage of the Fire Nation's two recent internal upheavals, that had only prolonged the war.

There was still no hope of changing the final outco.

For example, just looking at naval power, the warships of the Water Tribes and the Earth Kingdom were still wooden sailing vessels, while the Fire Nation had long since replaced its fleet with steel steamships.

How were they supposed to fight against such a technological gap?

How could they even hope to compete?

It was only because this world possessed the miraculous art of bending that the other nations could barely hold on by relying on their geographical advantages.

In every other respect, they truly could not compare.

Thinking this, Kahn glanced at Iroh again.

As the recently retired Grand General of the Fire Nation, Iroh certainly could not be unaware of these facts.

Which brought Kahn back to the sa question.

Weren't you the one who fought more enthusiastically than anyone else?

Iroh had no idea what Kahn was grumbling about internally, but after hearing the boy's words, he could not help falling silent.

Of course, he was not ignorant of those things.

He understood that what Kahn said was indeed the truth.

That was precisely why he felt even more tornted.

From the mont he was born until now, his experiences, his knowledge, the things he had witnessed, and his own conscience all determined that he was destined to struggle with this cause for the rest of his life.

Thinking of this, Iroh looked at Kahn with complicated emotion in his eyes.

No matter how clever Kahn was, or how much his way of speaking resembled an adult's, he was still a child.

He had not seen, experienced, or felt the true suffering of this world.

His heart was still innocent and untainted, which was why he held such simple views.

It was truly enviable.

But speaking of which, had the Fire Nation's patriotic education beco so poor recently?

Did a nine-year-old child really care so little for his own country?

Iroh looked at Kahn again and realized that his judgnt might be skewed.

Perhaps this child was simply an anomaly.

The schools could not be blad entirely.

Thinking this, Iroh could not help reaching out and ruffling Kahn's hair.

What would this child bring to the Fire Nation?

Where would he lead them?

Iroh felt a faint flicker of genuine anticipation.

"Can you stop touching my head all the ti?"

Kahn once again swatted away Iroh's troubleso hand and glared at him.

If he kept rubbing his head like that, what if he went bald?

"Hahahahaha!"

Iroh burst into laughter again.

Although Kahn did not know Iroh's true opinion of him, even if he had known, he probably would not have been able to refute it.

From Iroh's perspective, he was indeed still a child.

And Kahn would have preferred to remain the kind of child Iroh described for the rest of his life.

But that was probably impossible.

A world in chaos…

Inside the palace, Ozai looked over the various reports in his hands, constantly considering his next moves.

The order to resu the military offensive was naturally driven by his impatient ambition to conquer the world, but its aning went far beyond that.

This offensive served several purposes.

First, it would continue the conquest and fulfill the legacy of the previous Fire Lords.

Second, as the newly ascended ruler, he needed to display his power to the world in order to solidify his reign.

Third, it was a ans to prune the hidden threats within the military.

As the forr Crown Prince and Grand General, Iroh had cultivated deep influence in the army over many years and possessed imnse prestige.

How could Ozai possibly ignore that?

Although he had secretly purged many dissenters who supported Iroh during the transition of power, those who had remained silent were not necessarily loyal to him.

A cold smile appeared on Ozai's face.

To be safe, it would be best if all of Iroh's old subordinates vanished.

However, he could not personally move against those who had not openly opposed him.

That would be a thankless task and would damage his own reputation.

Since they were soldiers, let them die honorably on the battlefield and make one final contribution to the Fire Nation's great cause of unifying the world.

When that ti ca, he would be magnanimous and let bygones be bygones, honoring them as heroes who had sacrificed themselves for the nation.

This was a long-term process.

While sending off Iroh's old guard, he also had to cultivate a new generation of generals to replace them.

It could not be done overnight.

In any case, world conquest was the ultimate goal.

Every other sche rely served that purpose.

As long as he could successfully reach that end, he could accept slight compromises and exercise patience.

Until his own people were ready, he could allow the old guard to die a little more slowly.

That was already his greatest concession.

After finishing the paperwork, Ozai closed his eyes briefly to rest and turned his thoughts to another matter.

His current lack of top-tier combat power.

More specifically, elite Firebending masters.

True Firebending masters were rare.

At present, the only ones of that caliber were Iroh and General Jeong Jeong, because the title of master required more than raw power.

It required a profound spiritual understanding of fire itself.

Ozai had no ti for such philosophical pursuits.

If one disregarded that spiritual title and looked only at raw combat ability, he himself was formidable, but he could not personally take to the front lines.

Iroh's loyalty was nonexistent.

And although Jeong Jeong had chosen to remain silent, past reports suggested that the man was not truly on his side either.

In other words, Ozai had no top-tier masters under his direct control.

At present, the only person he could truly rely on was Azula.

Azula's talent, temperant, and intellect satisfied him in every regard.

With her genius, even if she never pursued the spiritual title of master, her combat power would still be unmatched.

Most importantly, as the daughter he had personally molded, Ozai was confident he had the ans to ensure she would never betray him.

Indeed, only those personally cultivated from the very beginning could be trusted and completely controlled.

However, gems like Azula were difficult to find.

He did not have the ti to spend years searching for and grooming another one.

But Ozai was not in a hurry.

After all, the arrival of the Great Cot was drawing near.

Speaking of which…

A genius like Azula…

Recently, he had heard so interesting news about that commoner boy nad Kahn who was staying with Iroh.

"Father, did you summon ?"

Just then, Azula arrived.

Ozai opened his eyes and said casually, "My daughter, I have heard that the boy nad Kahn possesses remarkable talent in firebending and has even been accepted as a student by Iroh."

"What do you know about him?"
