Kahn and Zuko fought back and forth.
Zuko's Firebending was very solid; every move and every action was perfectly standard, leaving no room for criticism.
However, such standard movents beca rigid when fighting soone proficient in anticipating Firebending.
Although Kahn's mastery of the elent was not as good as Zuko's, he had morized all the basic forms. He understood the starting stances of each movent, the transitions between actions, and the effects each strike would produce.
Even though he couldn't execute them perfectly due to not understanding the deeper breath control, it didn't affect his ability to predict Zuko's moves.
Furthermore, his combat talent was indeed quite good; within the limits of his movents, his physical actions and ntal reactions were almost perfectly coordinated!
Many movents that looked like Ty Lee's acrobatics could be easily perford as long as they were within the body's extre limits.
With these conditions, Kahn, who had just begun learning Firebending, was able to predict Zuko's moves and fight him to a draw, even subtly gaining the upper hand.
On the other hand, Zuko was having a tough ti.
No matter how he attacked, Kahn could always dodge or block in ti, nullifying his attacks, which made him feel like he was punching the air.
This is insane!
Fortunately, even though he couldn't hit Kahn, Kahn also seed to lack offensive ans and couldn't pose a threat to him.
If they continued in this stalemate, it would probably be considered a draw, which wasn't too embarrassing.
Zuko secretly felt relieved.
Unfortunately,
Just then, Kahn seed to give up on the entanglent with Zuko. After blocking Zuko's side kick once more, he smoothly jumped back and withdrew from the close-quarters exchange.
His entanglent with Zuko earlier was actually Kahn testing his own foundation and physical reflexes.
From his performance just now, he was very satisfied.
Relying on his familiarity with the forms and perfect control over his body allowed him to effortlessly fight against people who were technically stronger than him, which was a very significant advantage he possessed.
However, in that case, besides Firebending, there was also Earthbending, Waterbending, and Airbending. Did he need to understand all of their forms too?
And then create his own ultimate martial art that could counter every elent, like so legendary Avatar?
Oh, how delightful!
Uh...
Kahn suddenly snapped back to reality. He hadn't even mastered basic Firebending yet, so why was he thinking so much now?
However, he kept this in mind. Not needing it now didn't an he wouldn't need it later.
These thoughts quickly flashed by, and Kahn's attention returned to the battle.
Since he had received a satisfactory answer in the previous test, he could now try out so of his other ideas.
Kahn kindly reminded, "You better be careful next."
Careful? Careful about what?
Before Zuko could react, Kahn charged forward again, and Zuko could only continue to receive his attacks.
But the situation seed no different from before; it was still a back-and-forth, with neither side able to inflict any effective damage on the other.
Zuko felt strange, but his hand movents remained unchanged. One action followed another, retreating half a step to gather his chi, pulling out two arcs of fire from both sides into his chest, and then thrusting forward with both palms.
Now!
When Kahn faced this move before, he would either duck his head to avoid it or move back to escape the attack range, but this ti was different!
Kahn did not retreat but advanced. Before the fire arcs converged, he bent forward and rushed in, as if from countless calculations and rehearsals, passing through the flas with a precision like a pre-arranged performance, his whole body seemingly pressed against Zuko.
Imdiately, he extended his right hand, narrowly avoiding the two palms that were about to strike, grabbed Zuko's right shoulder, and pulled back forcefully—
Shifting Ember!
Their figures intertwined. Kahn maintained his pulling posture, while Zuko, due to his own inertia and Kahn's pulling force, flew out at a low altitude and fell heavily onto the floor.
Kahn won!
"Are you okay?"
After striking his pose, Kahn walked over and pulled Zuko up from the ground. Zuko had made a good landing, not using his face to brake, so he seed to be fine.
"I'm fine."
Zuko stood up from the ground, shook his head, a little dejected.
He had originally thought that even if he couldn't defeat Kahn, he could at least fight him to a stalemate, but he didn't expect to lose so cleanly to soone about his age who only knew three Firebending forms.
Was what Father said true?
Am I really talentless, a waste unworthy of Agni's bloodline?
Zuko's dejection was completely evident on his face; anyone could see it. Kahn thought this was truly a sensitive child. He then patted his shoulder and smiled:
"How about it, my unique secret technique?"
Hmm!?
I'm so dejected, and you're still rubbing salt in my wound? I misjudged you!
"That move just now? It was amazing, completely unavoidable."
Although frustrated, Zuko still praised with a pouted lip.
"Indeed, I also think it's amazing."
Kahn nodded, satisfied.
Shifting Ember was a move inspired by a rogue martial artist from an old Fire Nation legend. Its purpose is to switch positions and cause the opponent to stumble, then follow up with a combo to deal high damage.
The makeshift Shifting Ember he was using now only looked similar in action, but it completely lacked the devastating chi-blocking effects of the original legend. It could only grab and throw the opponent, and it looked relatively cool, that's all.
It sounded very ordinary, but as long as it was used in the right place, it could achieve very good results, just like now.
The moves of the legendary fighters he had mimicked weren't imitated for nothing!
However, in reality, his victory over Zuko in this battle was mainly due to his perfect control over his body, which allowed him to precisely execute any movent his body was capable of.
More accurately, both the knowledge of the forms and physical fitness are indispensable.
Thinking of this, Kahn glanced again at the frowning Zuko in front of him.
After spending these past few days together, especially Zuko's defense of him when facing Azula just now, it was clear that this child had a good character and was worth befriending.
So Kahn smiled:
"This move is called the Shifting Ember. Later, you teach Firebending, and I'll teach you this move. How about it?"
"Really?!"
Zuko looked up in surprise, his dejection instantly vanishing.
Kahn nodded again. Looking at Zuko's smile, he inexplicably thought of a pet turtle-duck he used to have, so silly.
While the two of them were enjoying themselves, Azula, who had been sitting aside for a long ti and was very impatient, stood up and stretched:
"Ha~, thanks to your boring performance, I successfully had a good nap."
Saying that, she even yawned.
Azula walked onto the platform, stretched her limbs, and lazily waved to Zuko:
"Waking up is a good ti to get so exercise. Zuzu, co up and get beaten... Oh no, co up for combat practice."
Whether Azula was a prodigy or simply well-trained, she clearly understood the art of psychological warfare.
A slightly disdainful smile, nonchalant movents, and deliberately misspoken provocations, maximizing the mockery.
Zuko also cooperated by instantly losing his composure, furiously preparing to charge forward. Kahn couldn't even hold him back.
Then he was unceremoniously beaten up by Azula.
"Ah! [Muffled furious sputtering]"
That scene was too brutal; Kahn only dared to cover his face with both hands and peek through his fingers.
