"How about going out with tomorrow?"
Alaric blinked and turned to her. "Milady?"
Selene gave a soft chuckle, then shook her head. "Oh! That ca out wrong way."
She stepped closer, her tone shifting to sothing calr and cooler.
"There’s a council eting tomorrow. The nobles and officials from the eastern territories have been summoned. Gavin Trost’s arrest stirred things up. His lands are up for redistribution and vultures always circle quick."
Her eyes darkened slightly. "But there’s bit more. The beasts are moving strangely in the woods, I’m pretty sure, you are aware about this one too, right?"
Alaric gave a small nod, listening silently, his eyes steady on her.
Then Selene t his gaze with a faint smile.
"I want you to co as my aide tomorrow. You’re sharp, capable, and you can also fight if needed. I’m just a simple woman, Alaric. I need soone to protect ."
He almost choked.
Simple? Weak? He laughed inwardly.
What a joke.
But his expression didn’t flicker. He gave a polite nod, letting her continue.
"I’ll make sure your loyalty is rewarded," she added, voice softer now.
"If you work under , you’ll have more than just food and scraps. You’ll get a place to live, and even a role to fulfill."
She let that linger in the air.
Alaric raised a brow, pretending to weigh her words, lips pressed in a thin line.
But inside, he was screaming.
Fuck yes. The quest’s halfway done already.
Selene didn’t push.
She simply kept that composed smile of hers, eyes calm but sharp, and extended her hand toward him.
"What do you say?" she asked. "Work under , not as a slave or servant. But as my own subordinate."
Alaric looked at her hand. Then at her.
Her face was unreadable, her voice calm. Like it was a casual offer.
He took a breath. "I’ve forgotten most of my past," he said in an even tone.
"But I do rember coming from a different land. And things... worked differently there."
He looked at her again. "I’m not sure that I won’t ss sothing up. I might cause more harm than good."
Selene shook her head slightly, a faint laugh escaping her lips. "You don’t have to worry about that," she said, "I can teach you, one thing at a ti."
A small smile tugged at his lips. He reached out, took her hand, warm and soft, but firm in its grip.
"I’ll gladly serve under you, Lady Selene," he said.
And then, without breaking eye contact, he dipped his head, lifted her hand to his lips and pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles.
Selene froze for a mont.
Eyes locked to his... then to her own hand, still resting in his.
Seconds ticked by in silence.
Then she spoke in a low, controlled voice, which almost sounded like a warning.
"Do you know what you’re doing?"
Alaric blinked, then calmly let go of her hand.
"Did I do sothing wrong, milady?"
She snatched her hand back quickly, fingers curling into a fist. Her eyes didn’t leave him.
"Why did you do that?"
He tilted his head slightly. "Courtesy. For a woman of your status," he said smoothly.
Selene gave a small shake of her head.
"There’s no such courtesy here," she said trying to be firm, but her voice wavered near the end.
Then she turned on her heel, her forest green gown sweeping behind her.
"Don’t do that again," she said, back still to him. "To any woman. You might get yourself into trouble."
She paused in the doorway, glancing over her shoulder just once.
Her expression was mostly composed. But the faint flush rising on her cheeks betrayed her.
"We leave early. Be ready," she said, then strode off without another word.
Alaric watched her go, an amused glint flickering in his eyes, as a glowing blue panel flickered before his eyes.

Then he closed the window and rolled his shoulders, joints giving a soft crack.
"Alright," he muttered, stepping away from the corridor. "Let’s get this over with."
He dropped to the ground and began his daily routine, each movent sharp and controlled, muscles flexing as he powered through the sets.
His breath ca steady at first, but sweat began to bead across his brow.

"Not bad," he murmured, glancing at the translucent panel that hovered before him.

He glanced at the hovering screen, thumb brushing along his jaw as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"Where should I put these stats...?"
Agility’s already higher than the rest.
Willpower, Charm, and Strength are sitting in the thirties... but Endurance and Intelligence are still trailing behind.
For a second, he considered evening them out.
But then he clicked his tongue and shook his head, dismissing the thought as quickly as it ca.
No. Better to wait. No point in throwing points into the wrong area just to feel balanced.
I’ll invest them when I know what I need.
With that, he closed the status window and rose to his feet.
His muscles were still tight, so he gave his arms a long stretch overhead, spine arching with a faint pop, then rolled his shoulders once and headed back toward the cottage.
Humming slightly to himself.
