"The winner of this match, Silver Veylir!"
"I don’t understand... What just happened?"
"Silver won? Just by doing nothing?"
Whispers flew around the room, they couldn’t understand what happened. To those affected by the Perfect Hypnosis, all Silver did was get his ass handed to him.
"A class ability that allows Silver to control the five senses by manipulating his target’s Soul-Energy through the Soul-Core in their body." Hiro muttered under his breath with a smile. "What kind of broken ability is that? If he should break through the ranks of Grade 5, I’m not sure even I can counter that."
"In order to surpass the legacy of his siblings, he created a Soul-Technique to counter the Soul-Core. Because his cores are still underdeveloped, it doesn’t work on mbers of the Soul-Squads or anyone that has a more developed Soul-Core. Well done, that is truly a comndable ability for a mber of the six great noble families."
Alaric praised him, then clapped his hands in a slow applaud to show his impression.
Slowly, everyone followed suit, and it turned into a loud applause.
"Perfect Hypnosis huh... What a terrifying ability." Kai said with his arms crossed. There were two conditions necessary to activate the Soul-Technique, but since they didn’t know the second condition, it made him even more alard.
"We’ll move on to the second match of this phase." The 5th captain said calmly, but as his eyes scanned the list in his hands, they widened slightly in surprise.
"This will be an interesting one..." He whispered to himself.
"Kai Voltia vs Rentaro Mizuno!"
Rentaro looked slightly surprised as he heard the matchup, while beside him, Kai let out a small laugh, an excited grin spreading across his face.
"Oh! That kid is already up!" Hiro imdiately sat up straight the mont Rentaro’s na was ntioned, his eyes sharpening with interest.
"This should be interesting." Alaric chid in.
On one hand, there was Rentaro, the only Awakener that passed the second option forbidden for humanity to take and walk out consciously.
Then there was Kai.
"You know who the other kid is?" Hiro asked, a bit unsure of Kai’s capabilities.
"He is one of the three favorites of the first selection, and aside from those kids and the Soul-King, he holds one of the records of ascending the five trials in the least amount of ti."
As the two contestants took their respective positions in the middle of the room, all authoritative eyes fell on the favorites of the first selection.
[Ding! You have unread system ssages!]
A notification panel flashed in Rentaro’s field of vision.
’A notification panel? At this ti?’ Rentaro thought.
[Ding! You have unread system ssages!]
"Is there a problem?" Kai asked as he noticed Rentaro’s confused face.
"Not really." Rentaro replied as he discarded the notification panel the next second.
"I never expected to settle the contest this way, but what better way to win than to defeat you with my own hands? May the best man win." Kai said with a smile, popping his knuckles.
"Likewise."
"And Begin!" The 5th’s vice captain gave the signal to begin the battle.
The mont the match began, Rentaro blinked, and Kai vanished from where he stood. In the next instant, Kai appeared right in front of him, his body suspended in the air as his leg shot toward the side of Rentaro’s head like a blur.
At the very last second, Rentaro raised his hand and blocked the strike, and a small gust of wind burst outward from the impact.
"It’s just like the rumors say, you are fast." Kai muttered with a wide grin.
"Speak for yourself." Rentaro pushed his arm forward, using his enhanced strength to force Kai backward and send him flying through the air.
Kai flipped backward through the air and landed smoothly on his feet, sliding across the ground until he ca to a stop.
The next mont, he charged forward again, and in a blur, the two exchanged a rapid series of sharp kicks and punches, with Kai’s greater athleticism gradually giving him the upper hand.
’This guy, he isn’t just fast, his attacks are fluid and precise! Like a seasoned martial artist!’ Rentaro thought as he started losing his ground.
As he pushed him back once more, Kai stretched out his arm and widened his palm. Instantly, Soul-Energy flowed into it, gathering above his hand before forming a large sphere of blue energy.
A mont later, electricity sparked into existence and began coursing around the sphere like the earth orbiting round the sun. Without hesitation, Kai charged forward and drove the attack straight toward Rentaro’s chest.
"Elental Soul-Technique: Electric Burst!"
Rentaro’s eyes widened as he felt the raw, dense power behind the electric sphere. Without thinking, he extended his right hand forward and brought his thumb to the tip of his middle finger, as if setting a precise trigger.
The mont he released the tension and snapped his hand forward, a straight line of blue Soul-Energy shot from his hand, tearing through the air in a perfectly direct path toward the sphere.
The impact shattered the electric sphere on contact, and a miniature explosion shook the ring, a thick cloud of dust bursting outward and engulfing the entire area.
"W-What a battle!" One of the Awakeners shouted as he covered his eyes.
"What’s with this Soul-Energy!?"
None of the captains available, the vice captains, and even the lieutenants dared to blink, they watched with rapt attention, their eyes fixed on the ring as the battle unfolded before them.
"Hey, Mizuno... Is that your Soul-Technique?" Kai’s voice echoed from within the cloud of smoke as it slowly began to settle over the ring.
"Yeah...."
"I see." As the cloud of dust settled, Kai was on one knee, with pieces of a blue do falling to the ground like broken debris.
Half of his shirt on the left side was destroyed, and the hand that had held the electric burst was scorched and burned, smoke still curling faintly from his skin. Yet despite the damage, a sickening smile stretched across his face as he stared forward at Rentaro.
"I was right to challenge you... Rentaro Mizuno!"
"What kind of a Soul-Technique was that?" Hiro asked, the once playful and joyful smile on his face disappeared, overwritten by shock. "That ball of electricity was no joke, but it destroyed it barely on contact?"
"Sorry to say Kai, but if that’s the level your Soul-Technique is at, you have lost this contest, even as my Soul-Technique is incomplete."
Kai’s expression tightened as Rentaro’s words about his Soul-Technique being incomplete struck a nerve.
For a brief mont, irritation flashed in his eyes before he forced himself to relax.
Then, he let out a low chuckle, the tension fading into sothing sharper and more controlled as he looked back at Rentaro. "You’re right, I can’t beat you with this Soul-Technique."
He raised his palm in the air, he knew imdiately he couldn’t beat Rentaro just with the Soul-Technique he had now.
He had to risk it all on the new technique he had been developing if he was going to win this.
His eyes glowed an ominous white as he slowly rose to his feet.
"For several days I tried to create a technique that can complent where I was lacking, but my Soul-Core was too powerful. But now, thanks to you...’ Kai whispered.
"Behold Rentaro, this is my true Soul-Technique." He grunted softly, as electricity coursed through his arms and towards his hand, building up into a blue ball of energy in his palm.
As he gradually built up the ball of energy, sparks of electricity surrounded it swiftly. Its intensity ripped the surface of the ring apart little by little and Kai’s hair danced in the wind generated by the technique.
As Rentaro gazed at Kai, a blue blinding light emanated from his palm forcing everyone to block their eyes and was followed up by a gush of wind.
"Electricity!?"
"Soul-Technique: Electric Burst." He muttered under his breath, but he wasn’t done just yet.
"This is close to the limit that I can build it up in size without it bursting, but after a month of training, I have more than enough Soul-Energy to do this. Amplify..." As he said, the static ball of electricity grew intensively in ferociousness.
"And finally, enhance.’ He squeezed the ball of electricity in his palms tightly, sending the electric currents coursing through his whole body. His hair imdiately spiked up as an electric burden was now placed on his body.
As the light died down, all eyes were fixated on Kai, everywhere was silent as they gazed upon the static flow of electricity that coursed throughout his body.
"W—What?" Rentaro could only whisper as he gazed upon the dazzling technique Kai had been working on for a month since ascending the fourth trial.
Kai stood tall with his hand raised above his chest, and a cold look in his eyes as sparks of electricity bounced off his body. "This is the result of my training. Limit Break: Electric Burst Evolved."
