Daniel calmly tore off the doors of the carriage and stepped out. He looked around and frowned.
They were in a vast forest, surrounded by endless trees.
He glanced at the shattered carriage and, without wasting ti, used gravitational force to pull its broken parts apart so he could get Serys out of it.
The pieces floated in the air and were tossed aside. That’s when he saw Serys’ injured body.
He walked toward her and checked her pulse—luckily, she was still breathing. Without hesitation, he injected a bit of mana into her body.
The mana acted like a small electric shock, jolting her entire body. Suddenly, her eyes snapped open.
"What? What happened?" she looked around in confusion and then saw Daniel’s handso face just inches away, which instantly made her blush.
But when she rembered they’d been attacked, she looked around quickly. Their winged horses were torn in half and dead.
The carriage was completely wrecked, nothing left of it.
The spot they’d crashed had ford a crater in the ground.
She then looked down at herself—she was covered in blood and had several wounds.
But when her eyes landed on Daniel, she was shocked. His body was completely unhard—only his clothes were torn, revealing his chiseled muscles.
"How are you completely fine?" Serys asked in disbelief.
That attack should have at least left a scratch on him... but nothing?
"Instead of asking that, you should save your energy. Several presences are approaching us," Daniel replied as he moved away from her.
Naturally, the reason he was unhard was because of his body—it was the Undying Death Physique. Sure, he’d been injured in recent fights...
But those were against extrely powerful enemies! An attack like this couldn’t even tickle him, let alone injure him.
Daniel’s gaze fell on the crater left behind, and he tried to analyze the power that had attacked them. However, the result was a failure.
Whatever had struck them was different from any kind of energy he had seen before. It wasn’t like Law energy or anything of the sort.
So traces of that energy were still lingering on parts of the carriage, and from those remnants, Daniel could tell that whatever it was, it contained mana at its core.
However, the mana wasn’t pure. It felt like it had been mixed with sothing else—so sort of additional elent that probably made it impossible to detect before the attack hit.
A spark of curiosity lit up in his eyes. He really wanted to know what could create that kind of energy—and what that additional elent was.
Serys frowned and slowly got up, her wounds healing as she gazed into the distance.
"Who attacked us?" she muttered, but Daniel heard her.
"Whoever it was, they were fully prepared. I couldn’t sense their presence until the attack hit," he said, deepening her frown.
How could they be attacked so suddenly—by a group that clearly planned this ahead?
No one was supposed to know where they were going or that they’d be passing through this route today.
So what exactly was going on here?
Of course, it wasn’t just her wondering—Daniel was a little confused too, but he didn’t dwell on it. The attackers were coming, and he could ask them directly.
"Since they didn’t rush in after the initial attack and their auras are still far, the attack was likely done from long range—probably using so kind of item," he reasoned.
"This level of preparation..." Serys muttered, looking even more disturbed.
There really must be a spy among them.
"They’re here."
Suddenly, powerful auras descended, locking them both in place. Several figures appeared one by one in the sky, surrounding them.
"Told you they wouldn’t be dead yet," one of them laughed.
None of them wore uniforms or tried to hide their faces. It was as if they didn’t care if their identities were known.
"What do we owe the pleasure of this visit to?" Daniel asked with a calm smile as he scanned the group.
He examined them one by one. The fact that they didn’t even try to hide their identities surprised him.
But what shocked him even more was their strength—there were seven of them, all mid-rank A.
Clearly, whoever wanted Daniel and Serys dead had paid a lot—or maybe these weren’t just hired killers, but working directly for the one behind it.
Still, his instincts told him it was probably the forr.
"Heh, we were told the targets would be two A-ranked girls. Looks like the info was off—just one girl here, and the other’s a guy, and not even A-rank. Looks like he’s B at best," one of the attackers said, ignoring Daniel’s question completely.
"Did we attack the wrong people? But I’m sure that girl is the famous prodigy from the Central Magic Tower. Maybe the other girl didn’t show up?"
"Who cares? We got paid, and the client specifically said it doesn’t matter what happens to the second girl—the one from the Magic Tower must die."
"Looks like you’re the main target," Daniel said as he glanced at Serys.
Her face filled with disbelief and confusion after hearing their words... Why would anyone deliberately target her?
Unlike other prodigies, she kept a low profile and didn’t have any enemies.
"Wait... could it be?" Suddenly, a face popped into her mind, followed by a deep sense of shock.
"Sounds like you’ve got a guess about who’s behind this," Daniel said with a grin before focusing his attention back on the group.
The attackers clearly didn’t see Daniel and Serys as threats—they were totally confident that the two had no way of escaping or surviving.
That arrogance and overconfidence—it annoyed Daniel.
"Let’s not waste ti. Let’s end this quick," one of the seven said as they all nodded and prepared to attack.
Even though they were confident they could easily take out the two kids, they still didn’t hold back—after all, one of the targets was a top-tier prodigy of the Central Magic Tower. Underestimating soone like that would be a mistake.
"At first I wasn’t sure, but you guys are Wanderers, aren’t you?"
