The mont Daniel stepped inside the Pagoda, the world behind him went silent.
He turned around and looked back, but there was nothing to see.
The door of the Pagoda had not disappeared; it was as if it had never existed in the first place. He frowned slightly, then looked forward again. However, what he saw left him stunned.
The space he was standing in looked endless. A flat, white, lifeless ground stretched beneath his feet, and a sky that was neither above nor below swallowed everything.
There was no visible source of light, yet the space was bright, an illumination that ca from nowhere.
Daniel breathed in. Or at least, he thought he did. He heard no sound from his body. Even his heartbeat seed to have faded away.
"Interesting... but what am I supposed to do exactly?" The mont his voice left his mouth, it vanished. No echo, no response. His words dissolved like a drop of water in a void.
His frown deepened. Naturally, he realized that this space could even swallow sound. But where exactly was this place? And what was he supposed to do?
He was not familiar with the Pagoda of Eternity, but based on his experience in the Pagoda of Death, he knew that he would definitely have to go through trials here.
But did that an he had already entered one of the trials? If so, what was he supposed to do?
He started walking. His steps were firm and controlled, but after a few steps, he stopped.
The scenery had not changed at all. It was neither closer nor farther. It was as if he had never moved in the first place and had just been standing there. Even he felt confused and tried to use his spiritual senses.
However, the mont his spiritual senses left his body, they were instantly swallowed and disappeared.
"Let’s see what your limit is," he muttered to himself, then began circulating the energy of death inside his body.
A dark aura burst out of his skin for a mont. The ground beneath his feet cracked, but before the cracks could spread, they repaired themselves.
It was as if this space did not accept the concept of damage.
He threw a powerful punch forward. A wave of black thunder mixed with death energy tore through the space, but a few ters ahead, everything vanished, silently and without leaving any trace.
There was no resistance, and there was no destruction.
"So that’s how it is..."
Daniel chose a direction and started running. His speed gradually increased, the ground beneath his feet shattered, energy swirled around his body, but after so ti, whether it was seconds or hours, he stopped.
Once again, the sa scenery. He felt no fatigue, no pain, and not even the passage of ti. Strangely enough, no matter how much power he used, his mana did not decrease at all.
"I see. So this is one aspect of eternity."
He let out a sigh and finally understood what was going on.
Waiting.
He understood. This was not a place where soone would attack him, nor where he would attack anyone.
He was ant to wait. In fact, this was a test of his patience against endless eternity. If he could not endure even such a short ti in this kind of space, then how could he be worthy of infinite eternity?
However, it was as if the Pagoda realized that he had understood the purpose of the trial. A sound was heard.
The sound was not sudden. It ca very softly, so softly that if he was not paying attention, he would have missed it.
It was the sound of footsteps, not from the front, not from behind, but from everywhere.
Daniel stopped. The death energy inside his body compressed, ready for battle. He did not know whether the purpose of the trial might suddenly change, but he had to be prepared.
But nothing appeared. Instead, the sound changed.
"...Daniel?"
Daniel’s eyes trembled slightly. The voice was familiar, absurdly familiar.
It was not from this life, but from his previous life, mories he had long forgotten.
"Is eternity worth it without ?"
The space rippled, and an image ford in his mind, not in front of his eyes, but directly inside his mories. He saw the woman he had loved, wounded, exhausted, standing in a pool of blood.
Daniel’s eyes turned cold. He knew it was not real, but the fact that sothing like this appeared directly inside his mind and mories was enough to confuse him, even if only for a mont.
He did not answer imdiately. Instead, he thought about the question. Was it worth living for eternity without his loved ones? Was he willing to abandon all his emotions and desires for eternity?
"No."
There was no response. Instead, another voice joined in.
This ti, it was his mother from this life—one of the few people he truly loved, a woman who allowed him to experience loving others again in this life.
"I thought so. Then why do you think you are worthy of eternity?"
The ground beneath his feet cracked. Shadows erupted like spears shooting in all directions, but once again, there was nothing for them to hit.
Then the voices disappeared, and the mories ca back to life one by one. The mories were testing how bound he was to his desires and emotions.
This floor did not want to kill him. It wanted to keep him. Eternity was endless, and only soone who could endure that endlessness was worthy of it.
Could he?
Now he understood why the temperant of the Prophet of Eternity had been so strange. So he too had abandoned his emotions and desires in order to pass this floor?
At so point, Daniel realized that he no longer knew how much ti had passed.
Minutes? Hours? Years?
"So I either have to abandon everything, or accept failure."
He finally understood the full nature of this trial.
He could only leave this place once he was able to answer that question.
