Chapter 78: Unveil The Truth
anwhile, while everyone was worried sick towards Qin An, the young man is currently dreaming again.
Just like his previous dream, all he could see was darkness and nothing else.
Qin An quickly realizes this might be related to the underworld and he would probably see the Judge again. However, this is not what is on his mind right now. He is quite worried. He rembered what happened before he fainted. He saw the black mist penetrate his heart and even felt that raging pain all over his body. Although it was his first ti feeling it, he had already seen He Yan and Lu Nanxiao’s case.
That was clearly a manifestation of riot. How could it be? If he’s an ordinary interstellar, Qin An will be totally confused about his situation.
But he’s not.
For others, what they knew was that this was a riot but Qin An knew sothing else.
It’s resentnt.
The demon who possessed Lu Nanxiao tried to enter his body instead. And because he’s just an ordinary person, he was not an exemption anymore. That feeling of being controlled and overpowered by your own body— Qin An felt it.
And now that he’s in this situation, he was not sure about this anymore. He’s no longer his past self. He has no ability and cannot protect himself even the slightest, what can he do?
And... Why would even a demon exist in this era?
Was this really a world without ghosts and underworld?
Before Qin An could contemplate more deeply, he heard the familiar footsteps again.
Qin An straightens his body and speaks directly. "What am I doing here?"
The footsteps pause.
"Tell the truth about sending here." His voice contains the usual cold and sharpness that he once had. His montum changed like a sword being pulled from its sheath. Once it was kept on its own shield like a beast resting on its own cave, the beast opened its eyes revealing the dangerous pair of pupils, exuding a majestic temperant. The Qin An at this mont seems to go back to his past— no, he didn’t just go back.
It was his real self in the first place.
Just because he was gradually used to this new world and was finally willing to open up, that doesn’t an that he changed completely.
For a few seconds, Qin An waited for the Judge to speak. Fortunately the latter didn’t disappoint and finally unveiled the truths behind everything.
"You were sent here to continue your service, No. 444." The majestic voice of the Judge revealed.
"???" The words that he heard left him in disbelief. Continue his service? Didn’t he retire?
"I’m not a grim reaper anymore." Qin An pointed out, "You didn’t explain it when I ca here." Qin An pointed out.
"... You ca here in this world to continue servicing. This world has no place for souls. That is why the people here never believed nor knew about us." The Judge said instead of answering what he said.
There was no place for souls? Then how are they after death?
Interstellar normally wouldn’t believe because they can’t see souls. And now, the Judge is telling him he was here to continue serving, not because of his last wish?
If that’s the case, why is this so different now?
"Then why aren’t there other grim reapers here? Since souls exist, why isn’t there a guide?" Qin An pondered.
"Because there’s no one here in the first place."
"!!!" Qin An was stunned.
He frowned. "What do you an?"
"As you’ve said, there is no underworld in this world. This interstellar has been dominated by humans even after the existence of Zergs and God cannot allow this anymore. This is the law of nature, No. 444. Everything must be in balance so everyone can coexist."
"Is this why there is resentnt here?" Qin An asked about the riots.
"Resentnt exists because no one is here to create balance. God created Zergs not to destroy humans but to allow them to appreciate the world. The pleasure of being greedy drove them to destroy the things that were given to them to live. However, didn’t God give them a chance again? God gave them power to balance the system but as years passed, it seems that humans turned back to where they used to be." The Judge told him the real truths about what happened back then.
"Then this resentnt was created to balance the world?"
"Yeah," the Judge paused. "However, they were given a chance again."
"... And that is a chance to eliminate resentnt." Qin An continued the words.
"Yes."
Qin An went silent. This system has always been the rule for everything in this world. The law of nature must be in balance for everything to coexist. One cannot truly dominate everything or it’ll destroy the world. Good and evil must coexist.
But...
"I’m a human now. How can you say I’ll continue my service if I’m a human?"
"Was that what you wanted?"
Qin An’s eyes twitch. Was that what he ant?! He’s an ordinary human who’s not part of them anymore so he could have lived like a normal human too, that’s what he wanted!
"Qin An, everything is fate."
Fate... Was this his fate? Is being a grim reaper truly his destiny for his lifeti?
"The underworld of this era is still closed so the souls that you see cannot cross the bridge. That is why the ghost that you encountered stayed in the human world and since resentnt is everywhere, he was easily contaminated."
Contaminated? Qin An lowered his eyes. "But isn’t that what he wants?"
Even if a ghost will be contaminated, if one truly doesn’t want to beco a demon, they can always fight with it. Anyway they are already dead, what’s the matter of fighting with it? So it only ans one thing, that ghost wanted power.
He wants to beco stronger.
But is that worth it? To sacrifice your chance to live again to get the justice and wish that you want?
"That demon cannot stay here anymore so you have to open the gate."
"How?"
"Find the key and be a grim reaper again."
Qin An went silent again.
Be a grim reaper again? But, did he give up that life? Even if he doesn’t rember the real reason why he chose to beco a weak human, he knew that it was also because a part of him doesn’t want to take this job anymore.
Qin An had served for thousands of years.
Even if he acted like nothing matters, no one can truly stay patient forever.
Was he tired? Maybe. That is maybe the reason why he gave up what he once fought for.
"This world needs your service again, Senior Grim Reaper No. 444." The Judge sounded.
"Are you willing to serve?"
