Her movents were slow and filled with affection, as if trying to morize the feel of him.
"Let fix your hair one last ti before you go," she said softly.
Ye Chen looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her face was gentle, with a kind of quiet grace that stirred sothing deep in his heart.
With a sudden turn, he pulled her gently into his lap, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"Brother… what are you doing?" she whispered, blushing.
"Just hugging you," he said, resting his chin on her shoulder. "This might be the last ti for a while."

"I learned it from you," he said, nuzzling her ear. "Who was the one clinging to like a spoiled kitten last night?"
"I was just… lonely," she muttered, her voice almost inaudible.
He kissed her forehead lightly. "I'll be back before you know it."
As they got dressed, Nalan Yanran suddenly stood and said, "I made you chicken soup earlier this morning. Let heat it for you."
Monts later, she returned with a steaming bowl of cloud chicken soup.....a specialty of the Yunlan Sect, made from spiritual poultry that boosted energy and cald the soul.
Ye Chen took a few sips and smiled. "Still tastes like your love."
Nalan Yanran's cheeks flushed again. "Don't say such things early in the morning…"
After the al, Ye Chen prepared to leave. He slung a travel bag over his shoulder and looked toward the courtyard gate, where Nalan Yanran had quietly followed him.
"The wind's strong. You shouldn't be standing outside," he said, gently tugging her close.
"I know… but I wanted to see you off," she said, eyes glistening. "You always go out alone. But this ti… you're leaving both of us behind."
He placed a hand over her stomach, smiling. "You're not being left behind. You're waiting here,for to co ho."
She nodded.
"I've arranged for my old maidservant to take care of you.
If you feel even a little uncomfortable, send a ssage through the jade slip," Ye Chen instructed seriously.
"I will."
He leaned in close, whispering sothing mischievous in her ear.
Her eyes widened and she blushed fiercely, hitting his chest with her small fist. "You really are getting worse!"

Then he turned around, his steps steady but heart heavy.
Nalan Yanran stood at the gate, hands on her belly, watching his silhouette fade into the distance.

Ye Chen sat quietly on the bird's back, looking straight ahead.

His eyes were calm, but his heart surged with purpose.
