The heavy silver spoon made a soft clink as Roxy set it down on the shiny dining table.
She looked at the six massive, dangerous n standing in her dining room. They had just spent the entire day tearing apart the worst criminals in New York City, and they looked incredibly proud of themselves. But Roxy just crossed her arms over her chest, trying to look very serious.
"You guys didn’t have to do all that," Roxy scolded them gently, shaking her head. "We have a giant mountain. We have a huge gate and dozens of guards. We could just live in total solitude and hide away. You didn’t have to go pick fights with the human mafia!"
Ren smiled softly, pulling his chair out to sit down next to her. "We didn’t pick fights, my sweet bunny. We just cleaned up the trash. And I promise you, we did it in complete secret. The human police think the criminals just turned on each other."
Caspian let out a bright, happy laugh, reaching across the table to grab a warm piece of buttery bread. "Trust , Roxy. If we wanted to be loud about it, the whole entire world would know by now. We would have just knocked the buildings down."
Zarek didn’t even bother sitting in his own chair yet. He stepped close to Roxy, gently wrapping his large hand around the back of her neck. He tilted her head up and pressed a deep, totally reassuring kiss to her soft lips.
"There is nothing to worry about," Zarek rumbled, his golden eyes shining with absolute devotion. "The city is ours. You are completely safe. Now, let us eat."
Roxy felt her heart do a happy little flip. She nodded her head, letting the last tiny bit of worry completely lt away. She sat down in her comfortable chair and pulled her plate of hot food closer.
As they all started passing the heavy bowls of roasted potatoes and juicy steaks around the long wooden table, Roxy looked at her husbands. She had been so busy being scared and sick that she hadn’t really asked them about their own feelings yet.
"So," Roxy started, taking a bite of a sweet strawberry. "Now that you have spent a few weeks working down in the human city... how do you guys actually like Earth? Because personally, I really don’t like it that much."
Syris was the very first one to answer. The elegant Swamp King scrunched his perfect nose in absolute disgust, carefully cutting his steak with a silver knife.
"It is incredibly dirty," Syris complained, his voice dripping with totally genuine annoyance. "The air tastes like smoke and chemicals. The streets are covered in gri. I had to throw away a perfectly good pair of expensive shoes today because I stepped in a puddle of sothing that slled like sour milk. It is a very ssy planet."
The others imdiately chid in, totally happy to complain about everything wrong with Earth and humans.
"And it is so loud!" Kaelen grumbled, his icy blue eyes narrowing. "There are sirens screaming every five minutes. The tiny tal cars honk at each other for absolutely no reason. My wolf ears have been ringing since Tuesday."
"The oceans are sad, too," Caspian added with a small pout. "I went down to the harbor, and the water is so polluted I couldn’t even see the bottom. The fish here are very angry."
Torian swallowed a giant bite of at and crossed his massive arms over his broad chest. "The food is tiny, the chairs are weak, and the human females are absolutely crazy."
Roxy completely stopped chewing her strawberry. She blinked, looking over at the giant White Tiger. "Wait. What did you just say?"
"The human won," Torian complained, totally oblivious to the sudden change in his wife’s voice. "They are so dramatic! They wear way too much slly perfu. And they keep trying to hand us little pieces of white paper with numbers written on them when we are just trying to buy coffee. They have absolutely zero sha. One of them actually tried to touch Zarek’s arm in the elevator today!"
Roxy’s eyes went totally wide. A sudden, hot flash of pure Matriarch jealousy exploded in her chest.
Soone tried to touch her Dragon King?
Roxy slamd her hands flat on the dining table and stood straight up. Her chair scraped loudly against the hardwood floor. "She touched him?! Where does she live? What coffee shop was it? I am going to march down that mountain right now and teach her exactly who he belongs to!"
Zarek let out a booming, totally delighted laugh. He loved it when she got fiercely protective.
Before Roxy could take a single step toward the front door, Zarek grabbed her around the waist. He easily pulled her right out of her chair and dropped her securely onto his massive lap. He wrapped his giant arms around her and started peppering her face, her cheeks, and her neck with dozens of hot, sweet kisses.
"Zarek! Stop! I have to go fight a woman!" Roxy giggled, trying to push his broad shoulders away, but she couldn’t stop smiling.
"Let them look," Zarek growled happily against her jaw, holding her tight. "They are nothing. I only have eyes for my Queen."
Roxy leaned back against his chest, letting out a happy sigh. Honestly, deep down in her heart, she was never really worried about the human won aspect. She knew how incredibly devoted her Kings were. They had literally crossed the universe for her. A lady in a coffee shop was definitely not a threat.
With the city officially conquered and Roxy finally, fully healed from her terrible fever, the atmosphere in the giant dining room slowly began to change.
The fun, light complaining about Earth slowly faded away. The massive, beautiful stone mansion was totally isolated on the mountain. There were guards outside, but inside, the house was entirely, perfectly theirs. Nobody was going to knock on the door. Nobody was going to interrupt them.
The six Kings suddenly stopped eating.
They turned all of their intense, overwhelming focus directly onto her.
Torian rested his chin on his hands, his bright blue eyes watching the way Roxy’s throat moved when she swallowed her drink. Kaelen sat perfectly still, his gaze totally locked onto the soft skin of her shoulders. Syris, Caspian, and Ren were all staring at her like she was the most delicious, beautiful feast they had ever seen in their entire lives.
The silence in the dining room grew thick and heavy. The air felt incredibly hot, like the temperature had suddenly spiked by twenty degrees. The tension built to a totally boiling point, making Roxy’s heart start to hamr happily against her ribs.
Kaelen leaned forward, resting his elbows on the wooden table.
"You know, we have a major problem," the Wolf King said, his voice dropping into a low, deep rumble.
Roxy looked at him, feeling a wild butterfly flutter in her stomach. "What is wrong?"
"We have been living in this giant house for days," Kaelen explained, his eyes totally dark. "But we haven’t properly marked this new mansion yet. The rooms just sll like human cleaning soap and wood. It doesn’t sll like us. It doesn’t sll like our pack."
Roxy threw her head back and let out a bright, musical laugh.
"Kaelen, this is Earth!" Roxy smiled, playfully swatting at his muscular arm. "This is not the Beastworld! Human people don’t go around scent-marking their houses and rolling around on the rugs like wild animals!"
Kaelen didn’t smile. He frowned, letting out a low, totally serious growl. "It doesn’t matter what planet we are on. You are our Matriarch. This is our territory. And right now, our territory needs to be thoroughly marked."
The tension finally snapped.
Ren suddenly stood up from his chair. The gentle, silver-haired healer didn’t look gentle anymore. He walked around the table and stopped right beside Zarek’s chair.
Ren reached down and slid his strong arms under Roxy’s knees and behind her back. He lifted her gently but firmly right out of Zarek’s lap. Roxy gasped softly, instinctively wrapping her arms around Ren’s neck to hold on.
She looked up at his face. Ren’s bright silver eyes had completely changed. They had darkened into a deep, heavy, beautiful shade of purple, completely clouded with totally unhidden lust.
"We built this castle for you," Ren whispers, his hands roaming her curves warmly through her soft clothes. He held her tight against his chest, completely ready to carry her all the way up the wide wooden stairs. "Now it is ti to christen the Matriarch’s bed."
Roxy felt a massive wave of heat rush straight to her cheeks. She bit her bottom lip, giving the handso healer a totally wicked, playful smile.
"You naughty fox!"
