The screaming in the yellow nursery didn’t stop. It actually got a lot louder.
Zarek held his tiny, crying son at arm’s length. The fierce Dragon King looked completely terrified. Torian and Caspian held the two screaming girls. They looked exactly as panicked.
"Why are they still yelling?" Kaelen shouted over the noise. He covered his sensitive wolf ears with both hands. "We gave them the warm milk! They drank all of it! They shouldn’t be hungry anymore!"
Syris leaned over the middle crib. He wrinkled his elegant nose. "I think I know exactly why."
A totally terrible, sour sll suddenly filled the room. The triplets didn’t just want food. They needed a diaper change. All three of them. At the exact sa ti.
Zarek laid his son down on the soft changing table. He stared at the tiny, clean diaper sitting next to the wipes. "How do you open this thing? Where are the instructions?"
"Just rip the tabs!" Ren suggested loudly.
Torian tried to help Caspian with one of the girls. The giant White Tiger got too nervous and accidentally pulled the plastic box of wet wipes way too hard. The box completely exploded. Wet wipes flew across the room like wet snowballs and hit Kaelen right in the side of the head.
"Oops. Sorry," Torian muttered, freezing in place.
"Just clean them!" Kaelen grumbled, peeling a cold wet wipe off his cheek.
Zarek finally got the dirty diaper open. He instantly froze. Then, the terrifying boss of the New York criminal underworld actually turned his head away and gagged.
"Syris!" Zarek choked, shutting his eyes. "Hand a towel. A mask. Sothing! The sll is completely toxic!"
Syris tossed him a tiny pink towel. "You are a Dragon King. Act like it."
It was a total, hilarious disaster. These six n could run a massive criminal empire without breaking a sweat. They could take down fifty bad guys in a dark alley. But three tiny, slly babies completely defeated them.
They put the diapers on backward. They used way too much baby powder. A giant cloud of white powder floated through the air, making them all sneeze wildly. Caspian tried to sing a soft lullaby to calm the girls down, but he forgot the words and just started humming nervously. Zarek’s son actually peed right when the diaper ca off, splashing the front of Zarek’s expensive dark shirt. The Dragon King just stood there, totally dead inside, while his brothers laughed at him.
A few hours later, the bright morning sun finally peeked through the nursery windows.
Roxy woke up in the master bedroom. She felt sore, but she had actually slept for a solid block of ti. She stretched her arms and slowly walked down the hall. Zarek wasn’t there to carry her, which was highly suspicious.
She pushed the nursery door open and completely froze.
Lira walked up the stairs right behind her. Lira had a huge paper bag of fresh coffee and bagels in her hands. She ca over to help since Roxy was still recovering and definitely needed all the help she could get. Lira looked past Roxy’s shoulder and loudly gasped.
The six terrifying Kings looked like absolute zombies.
Zarek was sitting flat on the floor, leaning against the wall. His dark shirt was covered in white baby spit-up and pee. Torian was asleep sitting straight up in a rocking chair. His ssy hair looked like it had snow in it, but it was just thick baby powder. Kaelen was holding a tiny pink pacifier in his mouth, just staring blankly at the ceiling. Caspian and Ren were laying completely flat on the soft rug. Syris looked like he had barely survived a major war.
Lira couldn’t hold it in. She dropped the bag of bagels. She threw her head back and laughed so hard she had to grab her stomach.
"You guys run a criminal empire!" Lira laughed, tears streaming down her face. "You beat up the entire human mafia! But three tiny babies completely broke you!"
Zarek slowly opened one golden eye. "Please don’t yell. My brain hurts."
Lira shook her head. She walked right into the room and picked up a fussy baby girl. "Co here, sweetie. Your giant dads are completely useless today. Auntie Lira is going to fix everything."
Roxy stood in the doorway and smiled. Her heart swelled with so much love it actually physically hurt.
She watched her best friend expertly change a diaper and boss the mafia n around. She watched her giant, scary husbands groan and slowly get up from the floor to help. It was loud, ssy, and absolutely perfect.
She walked over to the big window and looked out at the bright blue sky. She thought about Drax’s proud smile. She thought about Axel’s loud laugh and little Fedor’s red fox ears. She missed Tanith, Zale, and tiny baby Gianna every single day. She always would. The pain of missing them would never completely go away.
But she knew they were perfectly safe in the beastworld. They were totally loved by their pack. She accepted that she couldn’t go back to them, but they were always right there in her heart.
She looked back at the ssy, loud nursery. She had survived the absolute worst nightmares. She had beaten her terrible ex-husband. She had built a brand new, beautiful life. She got her happy ending.
A few months passed in a total blur of happy chaos.
The house settled into a wild, loud routine. The triplets grew incredibly fast. They started rolling over, giggling, and grabbing everything they could reach. The boys went back to running their city empire, but they always made sure to be ho by five o’clock sharp to help with bath ti. They finally learned how to change diapers without gagging, though Torian still complained about it loudly every single ti.
It was a beautiful, warm, sunny afternoon.
The Kings had built a massive, totally secret garden right behind the mansion. It was surrounded by high stone walls so nobody could ever see inside. It had bright flowers, soft green grass, and tall shade trees.
Roxy was sitting on a soft blanket right in the middle of the grass. She wore a light yellow sumr dress. The three babies were napping peacefully in a large, shaded playpen just a few feet away.
Ren was sitting next to her on the blanket. The handso redhead was quietly weaving a tiny crown out of white daisies.
"Look at this," Ren smiled, holding up the tiny flower crown. "I think it will fit perfectly on our little girl’s head when she wakes up."
Roxy laughed and reached out to take the flowers. "It’s really beautiful, Ren."
But as Roxy reached her hand out, the bright blue sky suddenly spun.
A heavy, thick wave of extre dizziness hit her totally out of nowhere. The bright green grass blurred together into a ssy sar of color. The sounds of the birds chirping in the trees completely faded away into a dull ringing noise. All the blood rushed straight out of her head, leaving her feeling totally cold.
She couldn’t even say a word. Her eyes rolled back, and she completely slumped over.
"Roxy!" Ren gasped.
He dropped the flowers and caught her perfectly before she could hit the ground. He pulled her gently into his warm lap. He didn’t have his Beastworld magic anymore, but his reflexes were still incredibly fast.
He quickly pressed his fingers right against the pulse point on her neck.
He expected to feel a weak, scary heartbeat. He thought maybe she just hadn’t eaten enough lunch or got too hot in the sun.
But Ren’s sharp fox senses picked up sothing totally different. He felt her strong, steady pulse. And right underneath it, he felt a tiny, brand new flutter.
Ren didn’t panic at all. The fear completely vanished from his face in a single second.
Instead of panicking, the handso redhead got a massive, wicked smile on his face. His bright purple eyes completely lit up with pure, undeniable joy.
Roxy slowly blinked her green eyes open a minute later. She felt super confused. Her head was still spinning. She looked up at Ren’s huge, smiling face.
"What happened?" Roxy mumbled, rubbing her head. "Did I pass out?"
Ren chuckled softly. He brushed a dark curl away from her sweaty forehead. He leaned down, his face just inches from hers.
"I guess we are having another one," he whispers.
Roxy’s green eyes went totally wide. Her jaw dropped completely open.
"W-what?"
