It was dark when Cheng Su still hadn’t heard from Mother Qi or Qi Fenglian. Then, she called their hotown, and Father Qi said there was no news either; they hadn’t seen her return.
Sothing happened!
From morning till night, despite the bad weather and challenging roads, if she was supposed to arrive early, she should’ve been there by now. Still, she was nowhere to be seen.
Cheng Su’s face turned grim as she carefully inquired about the ti Mother Qi and Father Qi departed, and used her connections to track the car’s whereabouts.
Qi Fenglian was frantic, and in the dark, she arrived at Cheng Su’s house with bloodshot eyes.
"Taiguo’s wife, our mom..." Qi Fenglian could only choke up as soon as she started talking.
"I’ve already sent people to ask for news." Cheng Su sat down, holding her belly, and added, "It’s so late; why did you co over? Where’s Xiao Yun?"
"I asked Shi Ling to look after her." Qi Fenglian replied, saying, "Do you think mom is lost or..."
This had never happened before, and Qi Fenglian couldn’t imagine what could have possibly occurred?
"Don’t overthink it, just wait for news." Cheng Su softly reassured, sweeping her hand across her swollen belly.
The child was very active, making her feel uneasy; she couldn’t help but stand and pace around the living room.
Qi Fenglian wanted to say sothing, but upon seeing Cheng Su’s big belly, she swallowed her words and said, "Just now, Taiguo had to go on a mission, at a ti like this. What kind of situation is this?"
Cheng Su glanced at her, saying nothing. Was it just a coincidence, or was it fate?
Knock knock.
Soone knocked on the door. Just as Cheng Su was about to move, Qi Fenglian said, "You stay put, I’ll get it."
She opened the door and stood face to face with the person outside, stunned for a mont, "... Cousin-in-law."
Liu Wenjing was equally surprised to see Qi Fenglian there, a mixture of surprise and concern; she had been here for quite so ti without running into Qi Fenglian, only knowing she worked at one of Cheng Su’s shops.
"Cousin." Liu Wenjing greeted her in a barely audible voice.
Qi Fenglian had long known about Liu Wenjing and Deng Weixia’s visit to Qing City to find Taiguo, but she hadn’t visited due to being busy at the shop. Now seeing her, she thought of her aunt and wanted to say sothing harsh, but now wasn’t the ti for such words, so she nodded: "You’re here!"
Cheng Su saw Liu Wenjing and asked, "Where are Gou Sheng and his brothers?"
"Asleep!" Liu Wenjing replied, "I thought there might be sothing you need, so I ca over to check."
"It’s fine, eldest sister is here too. You’d better go back, or the children will cry if they wake up and can’t find anyone. They’re still young!" Cheng Su glanced at the small clock and added, "Weixia should be getting off work soon. When he returns, ask him to co over here; I have things to tell him."
Liu Wenjing acknowledged and prepared to leave.
The phone rang urgently at this mont.
Everyone looked over as Cheng Su went forward to answer. After listening to the voice on the other end, her expression changed dramatically.
"Which hospital are they at now?" Cheng Su’s hand squeezed the receiver tightly, her veins visible, while her other hand steadied herself on the couch.
After hanging up, she felt a heaviness and sourness in her belly and quickly comforted herself, gently rubbing and sighing.
"So? Is there any news?" Qi Fenglian asked eagerly.
Cheng Su nodded blankly and looked at her: "They said that the car mom was in skidded off the road, overturned."
What?
Qi Fenglian’s eyes rolled back as she collapsed to the ground.
