In just a few days, Sister-in-law Song, this new neighbor, greatly refreshed Cheng Su’s understanding of human nature.
Cheng Su herself isn’t from a rich background, she’s from the countryside too, just like Chunhua and Guiying, so it’s not like she looks down on people from the countryside. But Sister-in-law Song’s temperant really leaves her speechless.
Rude language, greedy, loves to take advantage of small benefits, thick-skinned, lacking perception, and the list of negative comnts just kept growing day by day.
How much does she take advantage of others? Mother Cheng said when she asked for so, without even getting her answer, Sister-in-law Song just took the bunch of scallions she bought and used it.
One early morning, she got up to make soup for Cheng Su, only to see Sister-in-law Song using their gas stove, saying her own gas was out.
Whether it’s true or not, one should at least say sothing, right? This gas stuff is so precious. Mother Cheng herself feels the pinch when using it. If it wasn’t for the communal kitchen being too small, and hard to manage, she would’ve thought to buy a coal stove.
Especially with Cheng Su in confinent, needing to make soup and such every day, the gas was being used up so fast. Even if money wasn’t a concern, it was still painful for the elderly at heart.
But Sister-in-law Song’s behavior, sneaking around like this, is just a bit disgraceful.
Then there’s her two sons. Mother Cheng really doesn’t know what to say. They hang around the Cheng Su’s household all day, asking to watch TV, but often they co around alti.
Cheng Su eats chicken and at every day, and when the two kids see that, they gaze with eager eyes. Should you give or not give?
Mother Cheng considers herself a generous person. After a few episodes like this, she realized this is the adults taking advantage, and letting the kids take advantage too.
So, despite the hot weather, the door to Cheng Su’s household is now always closed, nominally because she needs to rest during her confinent and cannot be disturbed.
It’s not just Mother Cheng who complains to Cheng Su, Chunhua and Guiying do too.
The two of them seed to have agreed to co over to Cheng Su’s house to watch TV after dinner. Once the door was closed, they started to complain in low voices.
"... Our apartnt is small, kitchen and bathroom are shared, everyone knows this. Because it’s shared, everyone should be a bit more considerate, right? But she doesn’t mind, going to the bathroom without closing the door. Our Old Liang almost barged in, how embarrassing!" Chunhua spat with frustration.
Cheng Su nearly spat out her drink: "What? Not closing the door when using the bathroom!"
"Exactly," Chunhua said, "You know that outer bathroom, it’s just a wooden door. It can only be locked from the inside. Who doesn’t lock the door when using it? Usually when it’s unlocked, naturally you would think no one’s inside. But that day, my Old Liang ca ho in a hurry, saw it was ajar, and opened it, only to find her inside!"

"I was so furious when I heard, tried to talk to her nicely, but she just acted as if nothing happened, even laughing and saying she was used to it in the countryside! Guiying was also feeling frustrated, saying: "Dahe encountered sothing too, not in the bathroom, but when she showered. She just ca out in shorts and a vest, not even wearing underwear, this..." She didn’t even feel right to continue!
Such a troublemaker, Cheng Su swallowed and felt secretly relieved inside. Luckily her place has a bathroom, otherwise, encountering such things would be incredibly awkward!
