Cheng Su returned ho from school, and Mother Cheng was pacing back and forth in the living room trying to put Xiao Qi to sleep. Seeing her return, she imdiately pulled her aside to talk.
Cheng Su first kissed the top of her son’s head and couldn’t help but ask, "What’s going on?"
"Your husband is back."
"Really?" Cheng Su was delighted. "Where is he?"
This ti the mission was completed relatively quickly; usually, it takes a while when he goes out.
"He’s lying in the room. It seems his leg is injured. I saw him limping." Mother Cheng looked worried.
A worry gripped Cheng Su’s heart, and she was about to head to the room when Mother Cheng imdiately grabbed her and said, "Be careful what you say. He looks really unwell, didn’t even play with Xiao Qi. Who knows what happened?"
Hearing this, Cheng Su felt even more unsettled. She let Mother Cheng take the child to sleep while she went into the room herself.
As soon as she opened the door, she was choked by the thick sll of smoke, causing her to cough violently.
This guy must have smoked a lot; the whole room felt like it was on fire.
Cheng Su first went to open the window. The cold autumn and winter breeze swept in, quickly carrying out much of the smoke.
Turning around, she saw Qi Taiguo sitting on the edge of the bed smoking, "When did you co back?"
As soon as she sat down, Qi Taiguo hugged her, resting his head on her shoulder.
Cheng Su was startled.
Qi Taiguo, being soone extrely proud, might talk about pain or difficulties, but he’d never seek comfort so silently by holding her like this.
What’s wrong? Did sothing happen on the mission?
After a while, she felt a dampness on her neck, and her heart ached intensely, "What’s wrong? Don’t worry, I’m here!"
She embraced him back, gently patting his back, providing silent comfort.
Ti passed slowly, and after a while, Qi Taiguo cald down, kissed her face, and forced a smile.
"If you don’t want to smile, then don’t." Cheng Su saw his smile was uglier than a cry and felt heartache.
Qi Taiguo turned his head to wipe his eyes.
Seeing this, Cheng Su stopped questioning him and just pulled the blanket open, saying, "Your eyes are all dark. How about getting so sleep?"
Qi Taiguo nodded compliantly, lay down, and closed his eyes.
Cheng Su pulled the blanket over him and gently patted his hand, "Sleep, I’m here with you."
However, her mind was full of questions; what happened with this mission?
After so scattered thoughts, Cheng Su saw he seed to be asleep, so she stood up. Just as she was about to leave, she felt her hand being grabbed.
Looking back, Qi Taiguo had already opened his eyes, gazing at her intently, leaving Cheng Su with no choice but to sit back down.
"Susu, you are real, you will never betray , right?" Qi Taiguo asked hoarsely, speaking his first words since they reunited.
Cheng Su was taken aback, then smiled and said, "Of course. As long as you never betray , I will naturally stay loyal to you."
Qi Taiguo breathed a sigh of relief, showing a look of comfort.
Cheng Su felt a bit suspicious, wondering if soone in this mission betrayed him, stabbing him in the back?
"You..."
"Do you know when Sister-in-law Gao and her son left?" Qi Taiguo asked again.
Cheng Su was stunned and felt puzzled, "Sister-in-law Gao left? I didn’t know. But now that you ntion it, I haven’t seen them these past few days. Did they leave? Where did they go?"
A flash of pain crossed Qi Taiguo’s eyes. He squeezed her hand slightly, saying, "Gao Linbing, he is an enemy spy infiltrating our country."
