A gentle breeze brushed across the sea surface, stirring up tiny waves that reflected the light in shimmering patterns.

Immediately, his gaze swept over the azure sea, looking into the distance with a smile on his face.

Moments later, a cute little head popped up from the sea near the island, a look of delight on its face.

“Yes, what was the issue over there?” Lin Su inquired with a smile.
“Well… there was a formidable stripe jellyfish lost from its group, crying for help everywhere. I helped it find its group and came back!” Lanlan cheerfully replied.
For matters it could handle alone, Lanlan often wouldn’t disturb the small panions who were cultivating, preferring to resolve them by itself.
With its power, as long as it didn’t encounter something immortal, it was seldom in danger, and should any emergencies occur, it could summon Lin Su for help anytime.
Each time Lanlan helped a sea creature, it also grew stronger.
This was the unique trait of the ocean vow rule; Lanlan had to fulfill its vow to the sea.
Its vow was to protect the sea’s peace, and achieving this promise would result in the ocean vow law rewarding it.
“It’s good you found the group,” Lin Su said, rubbing Lanlan’s head with a smile. “For someone with the Water Whisper, achieving such things is easy.”
“Yes!” Lanlan nodded, then looked at Lin Su with its sea-blue eyes, a more plex expression appearing in them, “Am I holding you back?”
“Why would you say that?” Lin Su blinked, his face showing some surprise.
Lanlan had never expressed such thoughts before.
“Because…” Lanlan placed its small hands on its cheeks, quietly watching the distant, rolling sea, “if your contracted beast were another, perhaps the bond would be plete by now.”
“If so, you might have already broken through to the legendary rank, contracted the big brother, bee stronger, instead of being stuck at the threshold.”
“I think the last knot in our hearts might be my desire to protect the Endless Sea,” it said with a hint of guilt in its eyes, “Guarding the Endless Sea is my duty; I cannot keep everyone bound indefinitely by me.”
“When I first proposed the contract, I didn’t understand a beast’s significance to a Beast Tamer.” It forced a slight smile, “Sorry, if I had known at the time, maybe I… ouch!”
It clutched its head, looking bewildered at Lin Su.
Lin Su withdrew his hand, a helpless expression on his face, “What goes on in that little head of yours?”
“What you said just now isn’t actually the knot between us,” Lin Su said, looking at Lanlan intently. “Neither I nor the others mind acpanying you in guarding the Endless Sea.”
“Over time, I also vaguely discern our true heart knot,” he forted her with a smile, “The knot between a Beast Tamer and their contracted beast is not necessarily the fault of the beast.”
“The knot between us is because of me,” Lin Su sighed lightly, “Since forming a contract with you, I’ve always worried about the future.”
“As we got closer emotionally, this worry grew stronger,” Lin Su looked at Lanlan, “When this life ends and we return to reality, I don’t know what your future holds, which unsettles me.”
“I don’t know how to bring you back, and making a contract thus feels somewhat irresponsible.”
“So, if apologies are due, it’s from me.”
Lanlan blinked.

When the cycle ended, they would return to reality, but it, born here, might not be able to depart with them.
It wasn’t even sure of its own existence.
All this, it always knew.

Lanlan reached out, placing its hand on Lin Su’s.
“I was born and grew here,” it spoke softly, a smile gradually forming on its face, “Regardless of truth, this is my entire life to me.”
“Encountering you and everyone, I’ve already been fulfilled,” Lanlan murmured quietly, “Though it’s a pity we cannot return together, I don’t mind.”
