Just as Tianming thought that things were about to wrap up, an accident suddenly happened.
"What do you mean trade?" Shiming Yiyue, the surviving wonderian said, heavy despair and pain in her voice. Her sudden breaking of the silence was all too attention grabbing.
All the wonderians looked at her essence, stunned, as she continued, "Sounds like you don't understand us wonderians! After losing our spouse, our lives are hopeless! What's the point anymore?!"
With an even more resolute voice, she said, "Brother, Sister, you don't have to do this! I’ve accepted my death! I just beg that all of you make sure to tear this crook's corpse to pieces and make sure to slay all the other snakes from the Primordial Sands in the ruins! Ensure that the wondersky race's leadership in the Eightpart Pantheons won’t waver in the slightest! May the Heavenly Dao never go astray ever again!"
The elite wonderians in the Upper Star Ruin were far superior to those of the Lower Star Ruins, especially their willingness to sacrifice themselves for their own kind. In fact, that attitude was the strongest among the other races or factions. Even typical beastmasters and lifebound beasts who lost one or the other wouldn't choose to end their own lives, but the likelihood of wonderians doing the same was exceedingly high. Tianming had bet on the fact that a wonderian with high status wouldn't choose that path, but he’d bet wrong! Even though Shiming Shengshi couldn't make that decision for their younger sister, nobody was stopping her from doing so!
"Xian Xian, prevent her from killing herself!" Tianming said. Xian Xian's Quadform Radixbreath and black roots had pletely subdued the cosmic god essence, so it wouldn’t be an issue. Try as she might to muster energy to self-destruct, she failed time and again. Her wrecked body had been pletely dominated by Xian Xian, to the point that both her life and death were out of her hands!
"Stop wasting words and make the trade," Tianming said, glaring at the two platinum-glowing wonderians.
"Hehehe..." Shiming Yiyue cackled. "You’d even stoop so low to stop someone from ending her own life? How naive!" She turned to the other wonderians and said, "Do you all see? As long as I'm not afraid of dying, he won't actually want me to die! Just kill all the friends he cares about! If I die, it'll be on me! None of you will be at fault! Our seniors can hear me say these words, too!"
Being a widow or widower was the height of impropriety in wonderian society. Even the children of a maniverse-class world’s ruler would fall in status until they were even lower than normal people. The rest of their lives would be filled with hardship, so what was the point? That extreme way of looking at things was something that most people who didn't interact often with wonderians would learn about.
With Shiming Yiyue having made her intentions clear, the wonderians steeled themselves even if she wasn't able to end her own life. Shiming Shengshi's killing intent began to soar.
"Kill all those prisoners!" They no longer hesitated and instructed the cosmic gods to kill Jiang Lincheng and the rest before charging toward Tianming, flanked by their divine wonders in a sea of platinum starlight. The gigantic universal disc pressed down on Tianming with no regard for Shiming Yiyue anymore. Their seniors might be watching, but their sister had already made her choice, so why did it matter anymore?
Not only did they strike, they made sure to go all out to make sure to end Tianming alongside their sister! Once the hostage was dead, there would no longer be any need to hold back.
Jiang Datou and the rest, however, were once more in a dangerous predicament. The wonderians had begun hacking at their cosmic god essences with their cosmic artifacts. Though they weren’t as effective as cosmic relics, it would only be a matter of time before all of them died!
Dammit! I should've known that wonderians wouldn't even hold their cruelty back against their own! The wonderians had won the contest of ruthlessness; Shiming Yiyue had traded her own survival for Tianming's.
"Let's go! Otherwise you'll be trapped here, too!" Ji Ji said, having prepared to make its move. Its self-destruct could cause enough chaos for Meow Meow's Thousandway Blitzrun to help him escape, or at least stand a better chance of doing so. But if Tianming was wounded by the divine wonders first, things would bee far dicier!
"Go?" Tianming looked at Jiang Lincheng and the others. Even though they didn't have any deep ties, they had fought side by side through thick and thin. Tianming didn't want to give up on any of them, and fell into despair. He wouldn't be able to take it if he couldn't save at least one of them!
"Lin Feng, go!" Jiang Lincheng cried.
"Leave us! It's fine!" Jiang Xiaobai bellowed.
"Brother, we came here with the knowledge that we might die. It can't be helped! Don't hesitate and leave! Just make sure to avenge us! You don't owe us anything!" Jiang Datou roared. "It was an honor to have fought by your side!"
They had said that while their lives were literally being chipped away. Almost all of them had asked Tianming to leave, but the wonderians naturally wouldn't allow that to happen uncontested. Some of them continued hacking away at the essences, while others manifested their divine wonders around the cavern walls, blocking all escape routes! The two terrifying ones were upon him. The three lifetimes celestial cycle wonder spun and pressed down on Tianming's bones to the point that they started to fracture.
"Go!" the folks from the Primordial Sands continued crying out. They would never forget the short friendship that they’d had.
But Tianming still felt really unwilling to run.
If only I had power, I wouldn't even be in this situation! Though he had broken through at a rapid pace, it was never enough for the war in the Upper Star Ruin. He was always just buying time to keep up! The gears in his mind continued incessantly turning for a solution, unwilling as he was to give up even as his flesh and bones were starting to crack apart, leaking astral blood.
I have no other choice! This is the only move!
