Gregory did not say anything and flapped his wings to fly away.
When he returned, he brought frozen birds on top of the firewood.
“There is not much variety of food here pared to the mainland, bear with it.” Gregory’s tone was calm. He was not eager to please Elvis and Lea.
While Gregory was out looking for firewood, Lea had already dug a deeper hole in the cave. When they lit a fire, it would slowly bee warmer.
Gu Mengmeng popped her head out of Elvis’ body and looked around, asking, “So this is Motou Mountains?”
Gregory nodded and replied, “This is one of the peaks of the Motou Mountains at the border. There is usually no one who would e here.”
Gu Mengmeng nodded and said, “Uh… I have yet to thank you. We have troubled you this time. But why are you at Sauder? Didn’t you return to Motou Mountains?”
Gregory lowered his head to avoid her glance and replied, “There’s something I needed to settle, I was just passing by.”
Gu Mengmeng wanted to ask what he had to settle during such a cold day, but after thinking for a while, what right did she have to ask? Gregory was her savior, not her prisoner nor her partner, so there was no obligation for him to answer her. So she nodded to show that she understood. Then, she smiled sweetly and said, “No matter what, thank you. If you had not appeared on time, I wouldn’t know what to do.”
Gregory hesitated for a moment, then responded, “It’s no feat, don’t mention it.”
At the same time, Elvis and Lea exchanged glances and their faces became displeased.
They were both by Gu Mengmeng’s side, yet they allowed her to be in a helpless situation. They could not do anything and gave Gregory the chance to save them… Ha, if this fellow mentioned about being partners, they would not have any right to object to it.
From a rational perspective, it would be beneficial for them to have one that could fly in the family. And Gregory is really strong and loyal to Gu Mengmeng, so he is a decent candidate.
But the problem is…
Foxes and wolves are extremely selfish when it es to relationships. No matter how beneficial it was, they would not be willing to have another male in the family.
There was no cooking equipment in the cave, so Lea could only roast the birds that Gregory brought back over the fire. When he dug the cave, he discovered a huge brick. Using the brick, he dug out a small basin and filled it with snow. As the snow was placed by the fire, when it melted, it would keep the air in the cave moist and also can also be kept warm for Gu Mengmeng to drink.
“Even though roasted meat is heaty, there is no better option now. You should just bear with it, when we return to Sauder, I will prefer nicer food for you.”
Gu Mengmeng received the roasted bird from Lea and smelled it. It really smelled good.
Gregory carried her for a three day’s flight so she had not eaten for three days and was already famished. While she was on Gregory’s back, she had been in an unconscious state.
When she was about to take a bite to reward her stomach, she thought about how all four of them had not eaten for three days as well. Everyone had been hungry, it was not nice for her to have it all to herself.
Gu Mengmeng pulled out a drumstick and placed it in her mouth, then pulled out the other drumstick for Gregory and said, “Since you brought back this, you should have the best part.”
