“What do you want me to do? Gregory was straight to the point.
Lea gently brushed some non-existent dust off Gregory’s shoulder before rubbing his own fingertips with a smile. “Nothing special, I just want assurance that Mengmeng will not endure any suffering over the next 20 days, and that after those 20 days, the three of us can be transported safely back to Sauder. As long as you can do this, I promise that you can remain by Mengmeng’s side… of course, whether she likes you or not, and whether she wants to accept you—it will all depend on your own capabilities and luck.”
“Alright.” Gregory had no other choice, did he?
Lea nodded in satisfaction. “Since we are done here, let’s go back. I have not seen my Mengmeng for this whole while and miss her very much.”
Gregory didn’t reply to Lea’s coy showing-off, but just grabbed him by the ankle with a vengeance and carried him back to Gu Mengmeng’s cave.
Gu Mengmeng saw that Lea had returned and hurriedly went forth to wele him. She turned him around to inspect his wound and heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that it hadn’t split open. “What secretive words did you exchange? Why did you have to discuss it behind my back?”
Lea just placed one arm around Gu Mengmeng’s shoulder and smiled sinisterly. “Didn’t he say he will only save one partner if you jump off again? I was discussing with him that he should just save Elvis next time and let me have a clean death, so that I won’t have to be on tenterhooks everyday with you.”
“Lea…” Gu Mengmeng whined Lea’s name in a pleading manner that tugged at his heartstrings. He pinched her little face in exasperation and kissed her. “I am not as good-tempered as Elvis. I won’t let you off the hook just like that… you must be mentally prepared. After you get the Love of the Sky… I will settle our scores then. Understand? Mmm?”
Settle the score after getting the Love of the Sky?
Gu Mengmeng thought about it…
Ha, they would be preparing to bear little foxes after getting the Love of the Sky. So did Lea mean that he planned to settle the score with her when they were making babies?
Gu Mengmeng blushed and gently pounded on Lea’s chest. “Indecent.”
Lea let Gu Mengmeng continue hammering lightly on his chest. His eyes filled with bliss as he watched her throwing a sassy tantrum in his arms.
Thank goodness she was fine. Thank goodness. Thank goodness.
As long as she could forever remain like that in his arms, throwing tantrums, he could forgive everything.
Gently holding her little fists, he lowered his head and kissed her left ear. “Gregory saved us again. We now owe him a debt equivalent of six lives. This debt… how do you intend to repay him?”
Gu Mengmeng pursed her lips. She popped her tiny head out of Lea’s arms and looked at the stone-faced Gregory, feeling somewhat sheepish.
How could she put it? The blood had rushed up to her head and she just jumped off without any care.
But looking at Gregory now, she didn’t feel that angry anymore.
After all, Gregory was not her partner. He had no duty to cater to her whims.
It was just as what Gregory had said: “why should I?”. Using suicide to force his hand just because he liked her a little was not the smartest choice. But since she had already mitted the deed, it was too late to regret it. Gu Mengmeng cleared her throat and stood up resolutely. “Well… Gregory, I was too impulsive today. I apologize. Sorry and… thank you.”
