“You want me to… back off because of that?” Gregory’s fists remained tightly clenched as his eyes shone with unease.
She was willing to put herself down just to chase him off?
Gu Mengmeng shook her head.
Gregory looked blank.
Why was she shaking her head? What did that mean? If she wasn’t trying to force him to back off by making things look difficult…
Hope ignited in him. Gu Mengmeng clearly saw his eyes brighten significantly.
Gu Mengmeng sighed with frustration.
“I already told you. I am selfish and greedy. When incited, I often do things without thinking about the consequences. That is why Elvis and Lea are exhausted cleaning up my messes… you saw me jumping off the cliff at the Motou mountains—that is just one of the many impulsive things I have done. And you also saw how Lea had to deal the aftermath of my recklessness.”
Gregory nodded as he recalled the conversation between Lea and him in a cave at the mountain opposite.
Gu Mengmeng continued. “The problem I have before me now is that I wish to get the Love of the Sky while my father has been urging me to accept you. My father has always been the one fulfilling my requests and this is the first time he is asking me to do something. I don’t want to reject him and don’t wish for Elvis and Lea to be upset. The most beneficial action for me is to accept you as a guardian beast. You will bee part of my family, but not as a partner. Like Auretin and I, our relationship will remain at that level and never advance beyond that. In this way, it will be natural for you to bring me to the Motou mountains and I can answer to my father. In addition, I won’t be doing anything that will hurt Elvis and Lea. Hence, this scenario is the best one for me.”
Gu Mengmeng stood up from Elvis’ arms and went over to Gregory. Because of their height difference, she had no choice but to look up at him. She stared into his eyes in all seriousness. “But you will be the one paying the price of all that. The moment you take on my mark, no other female in the Beast World will be willing to accept you again. You will have no recourse even if you regret this in the future. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you will be happy enough just staying by side and seeing me everyday. Let me tell you that there is no joy in that at all. You are different from Auretin as he only likes food and doesn’t like me. So no matter how intimate I am with Elvis and Lea, he will not get jealous. But you? Will you also not feel jealousy?”
Gu Mengmeng pointed at the spot over Gregory’s heart. “Day after day of loneliness. Never getting rewarded no matter how much effort you put in. Never having your love requited. Are you really willing to accept such pain? Gregory, if I were you, I will think over this very carefully. Is it really worth it to give up the rest of your life for such a woman? With that, Gu Mengmeng drew back her hand and turned to return to Elvis’ arms.
But before she could do that, Gregory took hold of her wrist.
Gu Mengmeng turned to meet Gregory’s eyes. He no longer looked panicky, but instead exuded calm and resolution. It was as if he had finally e to realize something. Smiling faintly, he appeared aloof yet radiated an undeniable charm. “Truly selfish people will not expose their real intentions to the person being used. They will try all sorts of means and ways to conceal them, until that person bees pletely used up.”
