What had happened in the outside world was sothing neither Nick nor Silvanus could know. They were not in any hurry to set out and simply stayed where they were. Silvanus began seriously flipping through Lichian’s thick notebook, its pages dense, the writing inside tangled together like a mass of entwined vines. Nick could not help but think to himself that it was truly a waste for Lichina to have such a beautiful face when her handwriting looked like it had been scratched out by a cat.

He continued walking forward and soon discovered that if he kept going, he would only grow farther and farther away from Silvanus, yet he would not move any closer to the center of the pillar of light either.

No matter how far it supposedly was, he should at least have been able to sense so change in the surrounding space. In the end, he could only turn back and did not dare go too far, afraid of losing Silvanus.

Silvanus could leave this place even without him. But without Silvanus, he would probably rot here forever.

Watching Silvanus study nonstop, almost drowning in an ocean of knowledge, Nick felt deeply honored to be able to witness the growth of the protagonist!

Contrary to what Silvanus had once speculated, Nick had never seen Silvanus on the pages of any book.

He had lived in a modern world filled with towering steel-and-concrete buildings, streets crowded with cars, and a fast-paced rhythm of life.

He had not held the script of a destitute nobody who was always looked down upon and lived an ordinary life. From the mont he was born, he had been happy and wealthy. The only unhappy thing was perhaps that his body had never been in very good condition.

Yet the only things that truly attracted him were books that many people regarded as foolish and cliché.

In those stories, everything revolved around the protagonist. No matter what happened, no matter how deeply the protagonist was pushed into the abyss, they would always rise again with overwhelming force and punish those who had once hard them, because they were the protagonist!

The mont he died at eighteen and woke up in this world at the sa age, Nick only felt as though it were all a dream.

He had even once fantasized that he would obtain a "golden finger," that he would rebuild the order of this world just like in all the books he had read.

But there was nothing of the sort. He had only been given special access to those magic books that existed solely in Lumina, along with three instances of protection, all of which he had already used up.

Even so, simply having a healthy body was enough to make Nick feel happy. He felt that since he had already transmigrated, as long as he worked harder, there was no reason he could not rise up. Yet the longer he stayed in this world, the more fear he felt.

This was a completely different world, with lax laws. He should feel fortunate that at least he was a mage, and even had the potential to beco a Hunter. The lives of the poor commoners out there were truly haunting.

He had tried to help before, but what good would it do? He could not even tell who truly needed help and who was rely a trap.

After many miserable failures, he realized that in this world, he was truly so small as to be pitiful.

Nick’s dream of being the protagonist shattered completely, until the mont he saw Silvanus—so powerful, so radiant! With both "junior followers" and "beautiful won" by his side! Even though those two had now betrayed Silvanus, that was nothing more than a familiar part of the script.

The protagonist was rely preparing to accept even higher-level followers.

Thinking this way, Nick could not help but look at himself again. Right now, he was Silvanus’s junior follower, wasn’t he?

If this were a story, he would surely play a very important role!

My god, just thinking about it was enough to make him feel happy!

Nick rolled around wildly on the ground like a cocoon, sotis jumping up and down while talking about his future resolve.

After spending so ti together recently, Silvanus had also co to understand that this was simply Nick’s normal state. No one knew what he was constantly thinking about. One mont he would be listless and crying, the next he would be excited and full of energy. Silvanus simply ignored him.

Silvanus did not know that this moved Nick deeply. If it were anyone else, they would surely look at him with disdain and disgust. But Silvanus did not. Silvanus rely let him shout and make a fuss.

It was as if no matter how strange soone was, Silvanus would quietly understand them.

Nick grinned and shuffled closer to Silvanus.

Silvanus could not help but glance at him. "We’re out of food."

Nick froze. Silvanus continued, "But for now, we can’t leave this place."

Hearing that, Nick clutched his stomach and said casually, "Ordinary people won’t die just from starving for a month. Besides, I’m a mage."

Silvanus said that ordinary people could not endure starvation for a month.

From childhood to adulthood, he had seen countless people die of hunger, a kind of death so painful it was haunting. Especially when you looked into their eyes, it felt as though having soone co and deliver a clean killing blow would have made them happier.

Silvanus said directly, "Do you want to beco an Undead?"

Nick stared at Silvanus in shock, then exclaid, "That’s so cool! Then would I get a scythe too?"

He had always felt that gloomy character designs with massive weapons were really cool.

Silvanus fell silent for a mont. "Undead are creatures of darkness..."

"So what? Even the Land of Darkness has light. And even the Land of Light has day and night," Nick said. He had never seen anyone complain when night fell. They just slept soundly. Maybe the Land of Darkness was the sa.

Silvanus could not help but look at Nick again, smiled faintly, and nodded. "You’re right."

Nick stared at Silvanus intently. Over the past few days, Silvanus’s expression had not changed at all, which had truly terrified Nick. So Silvanus could still smile after all.

After receiving his agreent, Silvanus suddenly raised his hand. A contract appeared before them, vivid red like blood.

Nick could not help but pause for a mont. He saw Silvanus gently press his own hand down to the side. Nick swallowed, forced a smile, and quickly followed suit.

A flash of light appeared and then vanished in an instant. Nick could see a strange mark on the center of his palm, but before he could look at it clearly, the mark had already disappeared, as though it had never existed.

"So... does that an I’ve beco an Undead?" Nick asked, a little dazed.

Silvanus shook his head. "You only possess a portion of my power. You can endure hunger and you won’t die easily. The main condition is that you must not betray ."

"What if I do betray you?" Nick asked, a bit curious.

Silvanus rely looked at him without saying anything. That gaze alone made Nick feel a chill creep up the back of his neck.

Alright then. It seed things were not as simple as he had thought. No matter how much Silvanus tried to appear normal, the previous battle had changed him to so extent. It was just that Nick could not perceive that change.

Nick wished he were a little sharper, but he still could not read Silvanus’s true mood. So he simply jumped up and declared loudly, "Great! Then this will be my lifelong ability. I told you, Silvanus, you can’t chase away."

The contract was already signed. At the very least, he had to beco an important supporting character!
