Hearing that Mr Chen wanted to sell the cub, Clint felt that it was reasonable. Since Mr Chen was a lightning mage like himself, the elental spirit was useless to him.

Its real value was in its market price after it was sold.

In this regard, Clint advised Mr Chen to keep it and sell it when he goes to a bigger city.

Because as much as he wanted to buy the cub from Mr Chen, Balon City was currently experiencing a shortage of resources as all of the magic beasts in the area were disappearing mysteriously.

Therefore, he won’t have enough money to buy the cub from Mr Chen.

Alex nodded, feeling partially guilty for the shortage of resources. The mysterious disappearance of magic beasts was his fault. Clint knew this as well but just didn’t dare to say it in front of him.

Alex then asked if he could leave the cub with Clint for the ti being, and he would co take it when he was ready to go to the capital.

Clint happily offered to keep the cub in one of many reinforced rooms in the building, he assured Mr Chen that nothing would happen to the cub.

After all, besides Mr Chen, very few people could cause harm to the elental spirit in Balon City.

Alex nodded and then handed the cub over to Clint. However, the mont Clint’s hands made contact with the tiger’s body, black lightning rushed out and struck his chest.

BAM!

The black lightning exploded on Clint’s body and sent him flying to the other end of the office, crashing into his desk and chair.

"Ugh!" Clint grunted as his body slamd into the wall. Thankfully, he was a lightning mage and a Master mage so he wasn’t hurt. His clothes, however, weren’t so lucky and had burned around the chest area.

"Damn, as expected of an elental spirit. Even in infancy, its elent is so pure." Clint mumbled to himself as he rose to his feet.

anwhile, after knocking Clint away, the cub pounced on Alex. It was away that Alex had the essence stone and wanted to get it back.

That was its duty, to guard the essence stone.

But Alex easily grabbed it by the neck, and they returned to how they were when he first appeared in the office. The cub started struggling again.

He turned to stare at Clint after getting the cub under control.

After standing up, Clint walked over to Alex.

"Sorry for that, Mr Chen. I was careless, I’ll be more careful this ti." Clint said with an awkward laugh.

Alex didn’t say anything and passed the cub to him again. This ti, Clint was careful when holding the cub and didn’t get struck by lightning in the chest again.

The black lightning still rushed into his hands and made him feel numb but it was manageable.

Alex followed him to the room where the cub would be kept. There were formations placed around the room, so Alex was certain that the cub wouldn’t escape and co look for him.

Since he was done here, Alex decided to return ho. He didn’t plan to sell any beast corpses today. He would keep everything and sell them along with the cub when he got to Brandvel, he planned to leave soon since the university admission was just a few months away.

While he left, Clint wanted to call him back to ask about sothing. Since an elental spirit could only be found under certain circumstances, then Mr Chen must have found one, right?

But on a second thought, Mr Chen was a lightning mage as well and would probably want to use it for himself. Thinking of this, Clint decided not to ask about the essence stone that Mr Chen had found.

If Mr Chen wanted to sell it, he would have said so.

....

The next day, Alex arrived far away from Balon City before taking out the essence stone from his storage ring. He didn’t use it at ho because soone might sense it, he didn’t want to answer any questions.

Holding the black stone between his fingers, Alex could feel the abundant lighting energy within it; it was like a tiny bomb that could erupt at any ti.

Alex didn’t know the right way to use the essence stone, so he decided to treat it like a mana core.

He sat in a ditative position, his palms on top of his lap, and the essence stone on top of his palms.

"I hope my condition doesn’t affect essence stones as well," Alex said to himself before closing his eyes.

He was referring to his inability to gather mana. Whenever he tried absorbing mana into his body, the absorbed mana would scatter once it entered his body and would no longer be under his control.

He had yet to find a reason for this, causing him to be unable to find a way to cure it.

Well, that thought would have to wait.

Alex’s breathing was steady as he focused on the essence stone resting on his palm. He concentrated on the energy stored inside the stone and began to absorb it.

Outside, the black stone on Alex’s palm started trembling slightly as a black wisp of energy rose from it.

The black wisp didn’t look like an ominous smoke or mist but instead had a faint trace of purple aura mixed within and cracked like lightning flashing across a dark sky.

It surrounded Alex’s body before drilling into his body like shadows disappearing into a person’s body at the appearance of light.

In Alex’s soul sea. He saw the black and purple energy wisp entering his soul sea before flowing towards his lightning stars.

Alex was delighted, the energy he was absorbing from the black stone didn’t scatter after entering his body!

He could control it!

Under Alex’s guidance, the large stream of black wisp moved toward his purple stars and began entering them.

As ti passed, changes took place inside Alex’s soul sea, which was incomparably massive.

Hours passed without Alex realising it and by the ti he ca back to his senses, it was already evening.

After exclaiming about how fast ti went by, Alex took a look at his soul sea.

Now, his soul sea was filled with silver white stars and pitch black stars, all of his lighting elent stars had transford from purple to black!

This was the sa colour as the lightning that covered the elental spirit’s body.

"I wonder how this will affect my spells," Alex mumbled to himself. The next mont, his eyes turned black as black stars appeared around him and ford a black star pattern.

"Lightning ball,"

Alex cast one of the weakest lightning spells to test his changed elent.

Threads of black lightning flew out from the star pattern in front of him and ford a black lightning ball that was as big as a small car before shooting forward.

Swoosh!

Boom!

The lightning ball flew at an incredible speed and crashed into a dune in the distance before exploding.

Alex "..."

He was left speechless at the strength of the lightning ball. That wasn’t a strength that an Adept rank spell was supposed to have, it belonged to an Expert rank spell!

Well, a mage who has just entered the Expert mage rank.

But the point was that the strength of his spell had risen two ranks after his elent upgraded from purple to black lightning!

"I wonder what my Saint rank lightning spell would be like,"
