Unaware of what the top mbers of the Balon City Union branch were thinking, Alex finished his classes at the academy and quickly left to get Emily from her school before heading ho.
Getting ho, he learnt that his father was still at work which was very normal. He washed up and got ready to leave, but not after his mother seriously reminded him not to spend too long outside again.
"Yes, yes, I promise," Alex said with a small laugh while rubbing his head.
Exiting through the door, Alex imdiately left the outskirts of Balon City and approached the busy area, where he got a ride to a place near the border.
He hadn’t touched the money he made from selling the beast corpses, mana cores, and Void rock yet; he was still spending his savings from working at the library in the academy and other part-ti jobs.
Finding a quiet place, Alex took out his outfit from the system and they automatically appeared on his body and face.
He was ready to set out!
Alex approached the officers guarding at the border. A familiar voice called out to him as he got closer.
Turned out it was the officer who Alex had seen the first ti he went outside the border.
’I guess they work in shifts and today is his turn to guard again.’ Alex thought inwardly.
"It’s good to see you again, Mr Chen; you’re leaving to explore quite late today." The officer said with a wide smile.
Alex nodded without saying anything, the conversation ended with his lack of response. The officer wasn’t offended and made way for Alex to pass.
Another thing that Alex noticed was that the number of officers guarding the border today was fewer than the previous day when he ca.
’Did they withdraw?’ Alex wondered in his thoughts as he headed toward the forest in the distance.
He planned to hunt in another area today since the mbers of the union had been around where he used to hunt but because he was curious as to what was going on with the decrease In the number of officers, Alex decided to check.
To his surprise, even after moving for two hundred ters into the forest, Alex didn’t encounter a single person.
"They really left, but why? Was it because of ?" Alex wondered, wanting to rub his chin but his fingers touched the smooth surface of the all-knowing mask instead.
He recalled his encounter with Silvia and Marco, the elder and sub-elder of the Union branch and guessed that it might be because of them.
After all, an officer from yesterday had told him that the Union explorers who were all over the place were teams under those two.
"They must have recalled their teams after thinking that I was stronger than them and didn’t want to offend ." Alex ca to a conclusion and was pleased about it.
Now he could hunt and farm exp freely without worrying about anyone spying on him.
Honestly, he had been startled yesterday after receiving the notification from the system that soone was trying to prob him. If not for the system, he would not have noticed the two, and they might have caught him using two elents!
Alex didn’t want to imagine what would happen if they learnt of his secret, since he was the first in the history of mages to have two elents. Those powerful oldies might co for him and carry out inhuman experints to find his secret.
"After all, that’s how it usually is in the manga when the characters reveal their golden fingers."
As for now, he wasn’t strong enough to reveal his second elent and he might never even need to.
After wallowing in thoughts for a bit, Alex imdiately got to work.
He wanted to test his strength now that he had reached the Expert mage rank, and the image of a certain bear appeared in his mind; a red eye that seed to stare into his soul flashed in his mind, and Alex couldn’t help but shudder.
"No, let’s farm and get stronger first before visiting that one." Alex clicked his tongue before dashing forward.
Not long after, Alex ca across a magic beast.
It was a huge beast with the body of a bull and the head of a cat, it was as massive as a small truck.
"Let’s test the strength of an Expert level spell," Alex smiled behind his mask as a burst of silver-white light shone in his eyes and stars began to appear behind him the next mont.
There were over two dozen of them!
At the Expert mage rank, a mage could create a constellation to use spells. A constellation was made up of five-star patterns!
The stars quickly ford into star patterns before forming a large silver-white constellation behind Alex.
The strong pressure and powerful aura from the constellation were too hard to ignore. The beast on the ground imdiately noticed him and moved its huge body in an attempt to attack, but Alex had already finished preparing his spell.
He used the only spell that was available for the space elent at the Expert mage rank.
"Space cut!"
Alex whispered.
Imdiately, the space around the beast began to change as visible cracks ford in the air, forming a large ring that looked like it was made of broken mirrors around the beast.
The beast charged forward, but its head slamd into an invisible barrier just when it reached where the crack was; it tried again but could not go out of the ring of cracks no matter how hard it tried.
Alex was also curious as to what the spell would do and silently watched. In the next second, more and more cracks began to form around the beast.
Woom!
A sound akin to whispering wind sounded, and the space where the ring of cracks had covered disappeared, along with the huge beast, of course.
[Mission complete, 10 exp!]
Alex "..."
Alex looked at the spot where the beast had been just a while ago; nothing was left, not even a drop of blood or a piece of its flesh.
It had completely disappeared out of existence!
This spell...was too strong!
Alex could not help but exclaim inwardly but a sudden realisation hit him the next mont.
The entire beast disappeared, then...his beast corpse and mana core were gone as well!!!
"Better not to use this spell casually," Alex ca to a decision on the spot. He had to prevent using space cut if he didn’t want to keep losing his trophies, which were obviously the corpse and mana core of the beast he killed.
Still, this didn’t stop him from marvelling over how powerful the space elent was. No wonder it was rare to awaken amongst the elents.
Next was to test out the space elent. Alex imdiately set out for his next target.
Alex already knew the spell for the lightning elent at the Expert mage rank. It was a locking spell which was perfect for catching magic beasts alive if one wasn’t powerful enough to completely overpower it, the spell was called lightning cage.
Alex wanted to see how powerful his lightning cage was.
