Zevil Island was moderate in size, mostly occupied by dense forests, serving as a natural hunting ground.

Although it had only just begun.

Many candidates had already entered their zones upon landing, moving through the woods with exceptional caution.

Pokkle was among them.

However, his vigilance didn't last long because he hadn't traveled far before a figure appeared in front of him.

"Yo, I've been waiting for you for a while!"

Leaning against a tree trunk, Zane greeted Pokkle with a smile, as if eting an old acquaintance.

Landing first certainly had its perks.

For instance, Zane.

After being the first to step onto the island, he didn't distance himself. Instead, he simply waited nearby for his target to arrive.

Exactly.

The number tag Zane drew was 53—belonging to Pokkle.

Well... actually, Zane preferred to call him the 'Brainless One'.

Whoosh!

Unlike Zane's casual deanor, Pokkle looked as if he were facing a mortal enemy.

He didn't just raise his hand to fire an arrow; he turned and fled without hesitation the mont the shot was released.

Pseudo · Two-Finger Vacuum Snatch!

Zane calmly caught the whistling arrow between two fingers. With a flick of his arm, the arrow shot back at the fleeing Pokkle even faster than before.

'Damn it!'

Even while fleeing, Pokkle kept an eye on Zane. When he saw the arrow returning, he scrambled into a desperate roll to dodge.

He was both shocked and enraged.

Bracing his left hand against the ground, he flipped up forcefully, ready to give up on running and settle things with Zane once and for all.

Thud!!!

A sharp hand-chop landed precisely on the back of Pokkle's neck.

His pupils dilated.

Before he could even let out a groan, Pokkle slumped to the ground.

"I really am such a good person!"

Looking down at the unconscious Pokkle, Zane praised himself with total sincerity.

Why wouldn't he?

This guy was even more pathetic than Bodoro.

At least Bodoro's death was quick.

In contrast, Pokkle's fate in the original story was so tragic that he earned the nickna 'Brainless One'.

Now, things were much better.

With Zane stepping in, the course of his future life would surely be different.

Leaning down to retrieve tag #53, Zane glanced sideways at a spot nearby, then casually strolled away while tossing the tag in his hand.

'No openings at all. If I faced him head-on, my chances of winning would be less than thirty percent.'

His bald head hidden by the dense leaves, Hanzo watched Zane depart from his hiding spot in the canopy.

He let out a sigh.

He was truly unlucky. Of all the people to draw, he'd ended up with such a troubleso opponent.

Hanzo felt conflicted.

He wasn't sure if he should keep looking for an opening to steal Zane's tag or try to gather three points elsewhere.

'Whatever. It's not a mission anyway. Passing the test is the priority.' Hanzo took a deep breath and slipped away.

Zane walked for a good distance, but no one followed.

'Gave up? He's quite sensible.'

Zane didn't know who had been hiding, but since they didn't pursue, he didn't care enough to investigate.

Half a day later.

Zane eventually found a clearing near the opposite coast to serve as his camp for the coming week.

He built a simple hut using rocks and timber.

Then, he went back into the sea to hunt.

As a pirate, he was naturally an excellent swimr.

Combined with his strength, he soon returned with a bountiful catch.

Having zero awareness that he was in the middle of a test, Zane acted like he was on a survival retreat, arrogantly lighting a fire to grill and feast on seafood.

Yet, despite being so conspicuous, no other candidates appeared by the ti he had his fill.

Or rather, any candidates who approached and saw it was Zane followed their instincts and stayed far away.

After a hearty al and with no one to disturb him, Zane began a new round of training.

Days passed one by one.

Beside the small hut, a mountain of seafood remains had gradually accumulated.

"Attention all candidates: The fourth phase of the exam has officially ended. Please return to the starting point to report. You have a one-hour grace period starting now..."

A ship belching thick smoke circled the island while the loud broadcast echoed throughout.

"So ti's up, then."

The announcent reaching his ears made Zane pause his movents.

Sweat slid down the smooth lines of his bare chest, eventually dripping into the sand beneath his feet.

Exhaling a long breath, he slowly retracted his Nen aura, which had expanded into a sphere spanning dozens of ters like an invisible orb.

'Well... I still have an hour. I'll go wash up first.'

After releasing his initial mastery of [EN], Zane grabbed his shirt from a nearby rock and headed into the dense forest to wash in a nearby stream.

Once he had rinsed off all the sweat, Zane dressed and made his way toward the starting point.

"Damn it, I'm not giving up!"

Suddenly, halfway there, a candidate lunged out from the bushes, swinging a longsword at Zane.

"Don't be a nuisance."

With a casual palm strike, Zane didn't even turn his head as he sent the attacker—sword and all—flying.

Thud!!!

The candidate slamd into a tree five or six ters away, the force of the impact cracking the sturdy trunk.

There was no suspense; the candidate was instantly knocked unconscious with severe injuries.

After that minor incident, Zane arrived at the starting point without further trouble.

"Yo, you guys got here fast!"

Because he had taken a bath, Zane arrived relatively late, and many people had already gathered.

There were Leorio, Kurapika, Gon, Killua, Hisoka, Illumi, Hanzo, and Tonpa.

Huh?

Tonpa?

When Zane saw that Tonpa was actually there, he looked at the man with considerable surprise.

"Hehe, I just got lucky and barely managed to scrape the points together," Tonpa explained, scratching his head awkwardly under Zane's gaze.

"Luck is also a form of strength. Scoping enough points is your own achievent." Though surprised, Zane didn't look down on him.

In essence.

Tonpa could be considered a part of the Hunter Exam itself.

His petty hobby of sabotaging rookies was nothing in the context of this test.

After all, falling for his tricks only proved one's own inadequacies.

Zane was clearly the last to arrive.

No one else appeared until the Hunter Association's airship arrived.

Then, Zane and the others boarded the vessel.

"Congratulations to the nine of you for successfully passing the fourth phase. Next, the Chairman will et with you personally. When you hear your number, please proceed to the second-floor reception room for an interview."

In the hall, Zane and the others gathered in front of Beans.

The interview phase was naturally a surprise.

But they could only comply with the arrangent.

After finding places to rest, it wasn't long before the intercom crackled to life.
