Tang Jinyu could not help but frown when he saw how Jian Qi reacted to his question. “Jian Qi… Jian Qi…”
Jian Qi looked up at him all of a sudden after he called her name twice.
She seemed to have been woken up from a nightmare, looking seemingly helpless. At the same time, she appeared to find the world unfamiliar to her and she was frightened because of that. It was a sight that made one want to reach out to her.
“What’s wrong with you?” Tang Jinyu asked worriedly.
Jian Qi stared at him for a while. It seemed like she was trying to determine whether the scene before her was reality or merely a dream.
Tang Jinyu was about to throw away the ropes and go to her but she laughed all of a sudden. “Little Tang Tang, what do you think about my acting just now?”
“Were you acting?” Tang Jinyu gave her a rather doubtful look.
“Yes.”
Jian Qi smirked and she said smugly. “I can’t believe that you didn’t see through my acting given how smart you are, Little Tang Tang. It’s true that my acting skills are exceptional. I should have won the Oscars!”
Tang Jinyu stared at her without saying anything else. His eyes were deep and dark. It seemed like he was trying to see through her with that deep gaze of his.
“Little Tang Tang, are you stunned by my acting?”
Jian Qi smiled wickedly. “Don’t look at me with such a deep emotions, Little Tang Tang. You’re making me blush.”
Tang Jinyu still remained quiet as he stared at her.
In fact, he was slightly surprised at her reaction. He had investigated her background before and he knew that Jian Qi grew up in an orphanage. Moreover, he learned that Jian Qi was well taken care of in the orphanage. They took good care of her and she was not bullied by anybody there.
So, was she thinking about the fact that she was abandoned by her parents?
Was that the reason why she had that kind of reaction?
That was the only explanation he could give himself now.
After all, it was clearly impossible for him to find out the truth.
If not, she would not have reacted like that and put up a defensive front the moment she came to.
Jian Qi walked toward him when she saw that he was still quiet. She stood in front of him and looked up at his face. Then, she smiled faintly and said, “Little Tang Tang, do you want to take a closer look?”
Jian Qi then stood on tiptoes and got closer to him.
Tang Jinyu had nowhere else to go. He could only stare at her.
He felt that there was something off with Jian Qi given her reaction just now.
“Aren’t you going to answer my question?” Tang Jinyu asked her.
Jian Qi smiled. “Why do you want to talk about it all of a sudden? You want to know about my childhood. Are you interested in me now?”
Tang Jinyu remained quiet and stared at her.
He threw her that question because he wanted to stop her from touching him.
However, he was now slightly curious about her childhood. She was still the same as her old self who grew up in the orphanage just a few months ago. But, she seemed different now.
As such, he wanted to test her memories regarding her childhood.
Surprisingly, she gave him that kind of reaction.
“What’s there to talk about? The past is the past. Why don’t we talk about our future?” Jian Qi smiled wickedly and started to tease him again.
Tang Jinyu stared at the girl who was standing close to him. It was difficult to see her previous emotions in her now.
It seemed like what happened just now was just an illusion.
“I don’t want to talk anymore. Go and stand there.” Tang Jinyu said.
Jian Qi’s smile deepened. She held out her hands and hugged him. Then, she rubbed her head against his neck. She grabbed the chance to take advantage of him again. “It’s so cold being alone. I want a hug!”
Tang Jinyu took a deep breath. He was about to tug at the ropes when he heard some footsteps outside.
Jian Qi could not help but roll her eyes. She was annoyed and she plained out loud. “F*ck! Why can’t they e later? I just got to hug you. Why can’t I be allowed the privilege to take advantage of you properly?”
Tang Jinyu. “…”
