On New Year’s Eve in White City, the lights in the thousands of households were bright, and the atmosphere was lively.
After eating instant noodles alone, Chi Mingwei returned to the bedroom and took out a photo from the drawer of the bedside table.
It was a photo of a young lady.
She was wearing a white short-sleeved blouse, a blue pleated skirt, and her hair was tied in a ponytail. She was smiling sweetly while sitting on a swing.
At first glance, the girl in the photo looked similar to Chi Jiao.
“Ruanruan.” Chi Mingwei sat by the bed and looked at the lady in the photo. His eyes were filled with longing and infatuation. “Our daughter has grown up. How good would it be if you were still alive? If only you were still alive, our family would be together on a holiday like today…”
That’s right. The girl in the photo was Chi Jiao’s mother, Ruan Xiaoyi. She was still a student in the photo.
It had been more than ten years since Ruan Xiaoyi passed away, but Chi Mingwei had never forgotten her.

Holding the photo in his arms, Chi Mingwei lay on the bed. He missed Ruan Xiaoyi more than usual today. He thought it would take a long time for him to fall asleep, but he didn’t expect that his eyelids would quickly turn heavy the moment his head touched the pillow.
It was as if a delicate hand had gently placed on his eyelids, caressing them back and forth, urging him to sleep.
Just as Chi Mingwei’s sleepiness was about to pletely drown him, he heard someone calling him. It seemed to e from far away, but it rang clearly in his ears.
“Mingwei, I miss you so much…”
Chi Mingwei knew very well that this gentle and pleasant female voice belonged to Ruan Xiaoyi!
He hadn’t heard this voice for many years. Even in his dreams, he had never dreamed of her.
After Ruan Xiaoyi passed away, she seemed to have pletely disappeared from this world. Her family cut off all contact with him and didn’t even visit Jiaojiao once.
Chi Mingwei had prayed to the heavens countless times to let him see Ruan Xiaoyi regularly in his dreams. However, after so many years, he had never dreamed of her.
Now that he suddenly heard her voice, Chi Mingwei closed his eyes and thought he had fallen into a nightmare.
However, he knew that he was not asleep. His mind was still clear. His consciousness seemed to be trapped in his body and his body did not listen to his mands. No matter how much he wanted to open his eyes and see who was covering his eyes, he could not open them successfully.
The gentle and distant voice continued.
“Mingwei, look at me. I miss you so much.”
A ray of light appeared in the suffocating darkness. Then, a white figure slowly walked out of the light.
Chi Mingwei saw the figure walking against the light.
It was the same Ruan Xiaoyi in the photo that he was still holding. Whether it was her appearance or dressing, she looked exactly the same as in the photo.
She extended her hand and smiled brightly. “Mingwei, e with me…”
Her gentle and sweet voice seemed bewitching as it slowly seeped into his nerves.
Struggling to wake up, Chi Mingwei immediately gave up.
The room was so quiet that only the hands of the clock on the wall could be heard.
On the bed, Chi Mingwei’s lips curled into a satisfied smile.
