The joy of the wedding music reached its climax.
Mr. Gu, a little reluctant, placed his daughter’s hand into his adopted son’s hand.
Even though they were both his precious darlings, even though he knew Gu Yuzhi was utterly devoted to Sha Sha, he still felt an inexplicable sense of loss.
It was like so burden in his heart had finally been set down, and yet a piece of it was missing at the sa ti. The hand holding his cane trembled, and he almost couldn’t stand steady.
But the old man still braced himself, took a deep breath, and completed the ceremony perfectly.
He stepped down.
The couple’s vows began.
"Gu Qiusha, are you willing to be his rmaid, and never grow legs and walk away?"
"I do."
"Gu Yuzhi, are you willing to be her little train, and never go off the rails?"
"I do."
The emcee’s joking questions cut through the lancholy of giving a daughter away and livened the mood.
In the audience, Xi Rubao, who had just rushed over from an exam, burst out laughing and grabbed the arm of the Xi Zuzi next to her:
"Sis, turns out weddings can be this funny, hahaha. Sis, I was originally worrying about what to call Grand-Uncle in the future, but now it’s fine. From now on I’ll just call them rmaid and Little Train, hahaha!"
Zuzi watched this scene with a smile, just about to reply.
Suddenly her heart gave a light twinge.
Her delicate brows knitted slightly as her gaze swept once around the crowded guests.
Bao Er was still laughing and shaking her arm: "Sis, Mommy’s finished the ceremony already, we’re late, hurry up and give them the gifts or we’ll miss the lucky ti!"
Without giving her a chance to protest, she tugged her toward the vow stage.
"Mommy, this is the love lock I bought for you. You and... Little Train Uncle, hehe... hang it under the beam of your new house, and you’ll be bound together in love for a lifeti. How’s my gift?"
Gu Qiusha laughed. "Bao Er, that’s very thoughtful of you."
Gu Yuzhi’s lips twitched. "Rember to throw away the key. Since it’s locked, it’s never allowed to be opened."
Wu Qianman also presented her gift: "Aunt Gu, Uncle Gu, these are couple phones from my family’s factory. I asked the engineers to specially customize them, there are no other sets like this. I hope you don’t mind."
"Wow, Qian Man, you’re actually the heiress of a phone family? This is the first ti I’ve heard!"
"No, no, it’s just... a very small factory."
"Who says so? This phone brand... is our country’s number one dostic brand, okay? You’re way too low-key!"
"Ahem..." Wu Qianman was really embarrassed and quickly changed the subject. "Zuzi, what’s that in your hand...?"
Zuzi handed the scroll to Gu Qiusha, and said simply, "Xiao Sha, may you be of one heart for a hundred years."
"You kids, every one of you actually prepared gifts for us old folks, honestly..." Gu Qiusha accepted it in surprise and delight, and unfurled the scroll.
In the painting, a man and a woman stood atop the clouds.
One played the qin, the other blew the sheng.
They were obviously painted figures, yet the mont the scroll was spread open, it was as if they ca alive, filling everyone’s mind with the resounding qin tones of clashing armor and warhorses, and the clear, deep, lingering notes of the sheng.
The brushwork was superb!
The artistic charm was even more extraordinary!
The guests around them couldn’t help but gather closer:
"Fifth Miss, is this painted by your daughter?"
"I have to say, Fifth Miss, your daughter’s skill with the brush surpasses yours. As expected of the Gu Family, a scholarly house passed down through generations. So gifted at such a young age."
"Wait, this isn’t newly painted, this is... an antique, isn’t it?"
"Let see. This silk-paper has so years on it—at least over a thousand, I’d say. And this ink... looks very precious, not sothing from modern tis!"
"Didn’t you notice the instrunts in the painting? The National Music departnt that Mr. Huangfu Yaxian just set up this year, its emblem is exactly this instrunt on the right..."
