The restaurant was a small, aggressively unassuming bistro tucked into a quiet side street in the West Village.

It didn’t have a Michelin star, but it had booths with high, curved leather backs that offered absolute privacy, which was the only currency Zara truly valued when she left her penthouse.

Ryan slid into the booth opposite her.

Zara wore a heavy, oversized cream sweater, the cowl neck pulled up high, and dark, oversized sunglasses resting on the table beside her plate.

Her hair was pulled back into a simple knot.

To a casual observer, she looked like any other affluent woman enjoying a quiet Tuesday afternoon.

"You look relaxed," Ryan noted, picking up a nu he had no intention of reading.

"I am relaxed," Zara said, leaning her chin on her hand.

She offered a warm, lazy smile.

"The Milan manufacturers signed the final contract this morning. The first run of Osei Maison is officially in production. No agency interference. No brand managers telling to make the hemlines shorter. It’s entirely mine."

"Congratulations," Ryan said softly, placing his hand over hers on the table.

Her skin was warm, a sharp contrast to the biting chill outside.

"You built it."

"With a significant inspiration from a very pushy CEO," she teased, lacing her fingers through his.

Her dark eyes searched his face, the playful energy dimming slightly into sothing more observant.

"You look... different today. Lighter."

Ryan leaned back against the leather cushion.

"The imdiate fires are out. We stabilized the periter. The company is pivoting back to scaling the software instead of fighting shadow wars."

Zara’s thumb traced a slow circle against his knuckles.

"So, no more burning buildings?"

"No more burning buildings," Ryan promised, though the Warlord Protocol pulsed a faint, contradictory rhythm in his blood.

He ignored it.

"We’re focusing on hostile takeovers now. Much cleaner."

Zara laughed, a soft, lodic sound that cut through the low ambient noise of the bistro.

"Hostile takeovers. Only you would consider that a relaxing pivot."

The waiter appeared, taking their orders with discreet, unhurried professionalism, and vanished.

"Speaking of pivots," Zara said, shifting her weight in the booth.

She pulled a sleek, silver folder from her large leather tote bag and set it on the table.

"I need your advice. Not as my boyfriend. As an investor."

Ryan raised an eyebrow.

"My consulting fee is steep."

"I think I can afford your rates," she purred, tapping the folder. "I want to open a flagship retail location for the brand. I don’t want to exist purely in the e-comrce space. I want a physical footprint in the city."

Ryan leaned forward, the casual atmosphere fading as his analytical brain engaged.

He opened the silver folder.

Inside were detailed architectural mockups, demographic analyses, and three potential comrcial lease options in SoHo and the atpacking District.

The presentation was flawless.

She hadn’t just thrown so ideas on paper; she had built a comprehensive, actionable business plan.

"The foot traffic trics on the Spring Street location are strong," Ryan murmured, scanning the data. "But the square footage is restrictive if you plan on expanding the line beyond the initial capsule collection."

"That’s what I thought," Zara agreed, leaning in close, her shoulder brushing his.

She pointed to the second option, a massive, multi-level warehouse conversion near the High Line.

"This one offers the space, but the overhead is brutal. The lease terms are aggressive, and they want a five-year lock."

Ryan studied the numbers.

He looked at the projected revenue for Osei Maison, which Zara had calculated conservatively, and then he looked at the lease demands.

"They’re trying to bleed you," Ryan stated flatly. "They see the na attached to the LLC, and they’re inflating the security deposit and the monthly rate because they assu you’ll pay a premium for the location."

Zara sighed, leaning back in frustration.

"It’s the reality of the market. If I want the pri real estate, I have to play their ga."

"You don’t play their ga," Ryan corrected, closing the folder with a sharp snap.

He looked at her, his dark eyes intense.

"You change the rules."

"Ryan, I can’t negotiate the rent down if they hold all the leverage. It’s a seller’s market."

"Then you don’t rent it," Ryan said smoothly.

He pulled his encrypted phone from his pocket, unlocking the screen.

He opened the offshore banking interface, the massive, eight-figure balance glowing quietly in the dim light of the booth.

"You buy the building," Ryan said.

Zara stared at him.

She looked from his face to the phone, her breath catching in her throat.

"Buy it? Ryan, that building cost too many million dollars. I don’t have that kind of liquid capital."

"I do," Ryan said, his voice a low, immovable anchor. "I will purchase the comrcial real estate through a proxy LLC. You don’t sign a lease. You operate out of the space rent-free, and you funnel your operational capital entirely into production and marketing."

"Ryan," Zara whispered, her eyes wide, completely overwheld by the casual deploynt of such staggering wealth. "I can’t let you buy a building for . That’s... it’s too much. It crosses a line."

"It’s an investnt," Ryan countered gently, reaching across the table to cup her cheek. "You said you wanted my advice as an investor. This is my advice. You don’t build an empire on rented ground. You own the concrete."

He didn’t wait for her to argue.

He opened the ssaging app and drafted a quick directive to Sophie.

He hit send.

Zara watched his thumb tap the screen, the finality of the action settling over her.

The sheer, unapologetic power he wielded was terrifying, but the absolute, unwavering support he offered her was profoundly intoxicating.

"You’re entirely impossible," Zara breathed out, a fragile, brilliant smile breaking across her face.

"I’m highly efficient," Ryan corrected, sliding the phone back into his pocket.

The waiter arrived, setting their plates down with practiced silence.

Ryan picked up his fork, glancing across the table at the woman who was rapidly becoming the center of his world outside the glass walls of Rebuild Tech.

The Syndicate was quiet.

The company was scaling.

He had just bought a piece of the city for her.

For the first ti in months, Ryan Russo ate a al without waiting for a bomb to go off.
