At the mont he asked those last two words, Mo Chuxi felt a sharp pain tear through his chest.
The pain was like being flayed alive, making even breathing unbearable.
Yan Xinxin lowered her gaze and stared at the household registration book, lost in thought.
Her vision blurred, little by little, amidst the silence.
"Did you hear what I just said?"
She asked softly.
Mo Chuxi could clearly hear her voice trembling slightly.
The overwhelming guilt and remorse made escape impossible. Mo Chuxi gripped the steering wheel tightly, his deep eyes laced with profound apology and compassion as he looked at Yan Xinxin.
"Yes, I had a daughter. Back then, I was pregnant with twins,"
She curved her pale lips and began to speak, a bitter smile lingering there.
"Xi was the older brother, and she was the younger sister. But because of my poor health and my part-ti work during pregnancy, I couldn’t keep up with proper nutrition, which led to my younger daughter being born with a heart condition."

Mo Chuxi shifted his gaze, avoiding Yan Xinxin’s eyes.
The more he looked, the less he felt capable of facing her.
"Tomorrow morning, when the Civil Affairs Bureau opens, we’ll go."
As his words fell, he stepped on the accelerator.
When they returned to the apartnt, the two little ones were already asleep.
After showering, Yan Xinxin noticed that nobody was in the bedroom. She walked to the study and found Mo Chuxi sitting there alone.
Oddly, the study was unlit; he sat quietly at the desk like an exquisite yet sorrowful statue, enveloped in silence.
"Click!"
Yan Xinxin pressed the switch, and the spacious study instantly brightened.
Mo Chuxi looked slightly startled, lifting his hazy deep eyes to see Yan Xinxin standing at the door in her nightgown.
"Why are you sitting here without turning the lights on?"
Mo Chuxi quickly snapped back to reality, the daze in his eyes instantly replaced with clarity and sharpness.
"Yan Xinxin, if this baby is a girl, she’ll be called Zhichun."
"...What did you say?"
Yan Xinxin was aghast. Using the na of her deceased daughter for the baby in her belly? Why?
"It’s late. Ti for bed."
Before Yan Xinxin could respond, Mo Chuxi had already made up his mind. He walked forward and scooped her up into his arms.

As dawn broke, a hazy mist gently blanketed the early sumr morning.
