The Volkov dining table with Nikolai, Ivan and Elizabeth clanged with the faint movent of cutlery as they enjoyed a feast. Thanks to the chefs working on recipes for hundreds of years, even monsters could enjoy the als prepared in the Volkov estate.

"How is Nikita?" Ivan asked while sipping his wine, taking a break from the steak.

Nikolai glanced up at his father, knowing that Nikita wasn’t just his daughter-in-law but the daughter of his closest friend. The sa for Nikita’s mother, who was close to him. Their families existed as allies for decades thanks to this union.

"She’s beco quite aggressive, but her mood and health is good."

He couldn’t help but love the changes in Nikita; rather than holding back, she would speak honestly to him. If she wanted to fight, they fought; if she wanted sex, they’d fuck, and her affection towards their little girls made him grateful they chose each other.

"To think that silly girl would be the first to give birth... haha." Ivan smiled to himself while placing his knife and fork on the plate and signalling for the servants to take the empty dishes away.

"Your father looks so happy." Elizabeth’s eyes shone whenever she spoke about Ivan. Nikolai watched his parents, and though it should be embarrassing, he didn’t hate it. This atmosphere was sothing he longed for as a young child.

"Really?"

When looking at his dad, he noticed sothing. "Dad, when did you shave?" The beard his father kept for over two decades vanished, now clean shaven and smooth.

"Ah, well, your mother’s tastes..."

"Ufufu, well of course who wants to be prickled by those horrible dog hairs."

"Eliza!?" Ivan’s eyes widened as she slamd both hands down.

"Who’s my cute little wolf, fufu. Are you angry?" She teased him while leaning against his shoulder.

’Dad...’

Nikolai expected his father to fight back, and yet he just cleared his throat and wrapped an arm around his wife. ’It seems that I have to try hard not to beco whipped like that!’

"Um, Nikolai..." Ivan spoke after a short silence.

"What’s wrong, Dad?"

Ivan looked at Eliza, before back at Nikolai, and then he nodded.

"It’s okay, we should at least give it back in this form." Eliza humd to herself while slipping from her husband’s grasp. She left the room quickly.

"I see."

Nikolai admired his father and how he treated his mother and the way he took responsibility in the clan. Not to ntion, he saved his daughters only a few nights before. So when he spoke or signalled he wanted to talk, Nikolai would listen.

"I have sothing that I received from Dimitri when we first beca friends, it’s an important item. And I hope you will accept it and pass it down to one of your daughters when the ti cos."

"An item?"

"Mm, co. Follow ."

His father stepped towards the back doors, in the opposite direction from his mother. The layout of all the mansions resembled each other, and so Nikolai realised they were heading for the secret office of his father.

"Have you been well since then?"

"I’ve been fine dad, if not for you..."

"Hmm..." Ivan glanced back, his eyes shining silver. "I thought I might lose you or Nikita that night." He approached the door, placing a hand against the white wood. "Those bastards, how dare they threaten my grandchildren!" Veins bulged in the back of his hands as he pushed the door open with a loud bang.

A musky air spread with a hiss as the dust blew across the room. Loose pages and old parchnts fluttered to the ground as Ivan stepped inside, the squeaky door freezing near the wall as he flicked the lights.

Nikolai followed his father without speaking. Ivan crossed the dim room, reached behind a shelf overflowing with yellowed docunts, and pressed his palm against a carved wolf sigil.

Sothing clicked.

The floor trembled as a square section of stone slid aside to reveal stairs that descended into darkness so thick that even Nikolai’s Obsidian Eye couldn’t cut through it.

"Stay close," Ivan said as he started down.

The temperature dropped as they descended. The walls shifted from smooth stone to rough, ancient brick. Runes, barely glowing, traced along the ground and ceiling. The air felt dense, as if every artefact stored below pressed its own presence against his skin.

A prickle travelled down his arms the deeper the pair went.

At the base of the stairs, the chamber opened into a vast vault. Racks of weapons lined the walls, and huge cases containing a single item spread through the room, with dull white lights illuminating them.

"It’s like a gallery."

Axes dulled by ti but still dangerous, cracked swords humming with residual energy, relics from ages Nikolai had only read about. The items were sealed in glass cases reinforced with chains and thick symbols.

"Are you that impressed?" Ivan smirked.

Nikolai’s eyes sparkled as he stepped closer. "Father, are they all from our clan?"

Ivan grunted. "Our family collected what others wanted destroyed. And kept what others weren’t worthy of using." He gestured toward a secondary corridor. "The one I’m giving you isn’t hidden because it’s dangerous, but because it’s precious."

They stepped into a smaller room lit by a single lantern. At the centre, resting on a stone stand, lay a spear wrapped in faded cloth. Even concealed, it gave off a strange presence when Nikolai first locked eyes with it.

A sharp, cold and proud feeling, as if facing the spear’s tip.

Ivan unwrapped it slowly.

The spear was long, the shaft pale Silverwood etched with runes Nikolai recognised from his native language, and there were many runes with the Fenrir clan. The blade was broad but sharpened to a deadly point, its tal tinted faint blue, as though holding frozen moonlight.

"This is the Heavenly Slaying Spear," Ivan said. "Once wielded by Alia Fenrir."

Nikolai’s pulse quickened. He knew that na, as he searched his mories, an old... almost forgotten item he planned to give to Nikita one day in his item ring. The book of spear arts that he found nearly a year ago in the tower.

Alia Fenrir.

Supernatural Slaying Spear Art.

Ivan placed a hand on the spear but quickly recoiled as icy cuts spread across his palm, "This thing doesn’t like huh..." He then turned back to Nikolai, who glanced at the spear with shining eyes. "Dimitri asked to hand this to you, with the upcoming fights. He said that as long as your children with Nikita wield it in the future he will accept it."

"Eh, then why not give it to my wife?"

"Nikita already told that you were more suited to this."

Nikolai stepped forward and swallowed his saliva. The shimring spear chid as he ca closer. "Heavenly Slaying Spear...." He couldn’t help but reach out. As his fingers brushed the shaft, the runes glowed faintly, and the bitter cold faded the mont he wrapped it with his palm.

’How can I use the Fenrir spear?’

"You look confused, haha. Well, we’ve done research on you and your aunt’s blood and found quite an amazing thing. The fact you can use the Fenrir blood art is probably the reason it accepted you."

"This will belong to your daughters soday," Ivan added. "But before that, it will guide you."

Nikolai didn’t normally use a weapon; he bought a sword from the arena, but it never felt useful; rather, he thought just using his claws was best.... Now he realised just how foolish his choice was.

The mont he touched the spear, it sucked his aura, draining his energy before a faint black fla flickered from the tip. ’This spear... it can use...no it channels Blood Arts!?’ As soone with multiple blood arts, this spear was the ideal weapon for him.

It whistled beautifully as Nikolai slowly spun the spear, taking basic stances that he learned during training with Alexei and his father.

The long spear howled like a wolf when he thrust it.

"Dad..."

"Hmph, I can see that greedy look in your eyes, but no!"

"Ah! Don’t be stingy, there are so many weapons here."

Nikolai stepped up to his father, while Ivan glanced up at his son and shook his head. "You don’t get it son. The other items will be given to your daughters, your wives and brothers to use to keep you all safe."

"..."

Listening to his father’s words, he couldn’t help but nod, and the spear was more than enough for him, which made him happy.

’If it’s for that, then I cannot complain.’

Nikolai planted the spear’s butt against the stone floor and exhaled, letting the weight settle into his arms. It wasn’t just a weapon. It was a legacy, one tied to him, to Nikita, and to the future he wanted for his daughters.

It really brought their families together...

"This is enough," he said. "More than enough."

Ivan’s shoulders loosened, a small sign of relief. "Good. Then let’s head back before your mother storms down here and drags us out."

Nikolai chuckled under his breath and followed him toward the stairs. The Heavenly Slaying Spear rested against his shoulder like it had been waiting for him all along.
