It wasn’t until almost evening that the pair returned to the Volkov estate hand in hand. He let the maids collect his car, and like back when they first t, the two walked ho.
Nikolai watched her scurry away to the waiting won at the gates, and as the reddening sun shone across his face, he thought to himself.
’Yes. This is the man I want to be.’
And this was the path he would walk after everything was over.
