"Forget it." Sasha stood in front of the back machines, with various monitors showing the readings of Selene’s current state. "Interesting."
Sasha’s fingers moved across the holographic display, enlarging several graphs at once. The steady rhythm of the machine filled the room, broken only by Selene’s slow breathing.
"Truly... interesting."
Anastasia frowned at her. "What is?"
"The readings," Sasha replied calmly, though her eyes narrowed with focus. "Her energies are completely fused and like nothing I’ve seen before. Even Nikolai’s isn’t like this. Although Nikita and her daughters have a unique energy. It’s like those four were the prototype, and Selene’s child is the perfect product."
The room beca silent but for the steady bleeping from the monitor beside Selen’s bed.
Selene lay back against the pillows, one hand resting over her swollen abdon.

Before either of them could respond, Selene’s fingers tightened against the sheets.

Anastasia snapped out of research mode and rushed to the bed. "Selene? Is it painful? Squeeze my hand if it is!" Her hands wrapped around the struggling mother to be, with a twisted face full of agony.
Selene gasped, her eyes squeezing shut as she let out a low groan.
The machine beside her gave a sharper bleep.
Sasha finally turned away from the display, tapping several holographic buttons, as the machine arms around the bed injected two gels into Selene’s blood. "Don’t worry, these serums are safe and good for the baby. They will ease the pain, while keeping your blood flow stable."
"S....so much for twenty hours!" Selene grunted, her words elongated and low.
"I said twenty hours based on normal progression," Sasha interrupted, tone sharpening.
"This isn’t normal."
Selene swallowed, a bead of sweat forming at her temple. "Sasha...?"
Another sensation rolled through her stomach, a deep ache followed by sharp stabbing contractions that took her breath away.
"Ngh... okay. That one... that one hurt a little."
The machines slowly adjusted, and the beeps slowed, but the pained face of Selene took much longer to calm because her muscles tightened without her permission.
Sasha glanced at the monitors before shaking her head. "This... we should contact Nikolai."
Selene nodded but then shook her head. "Wait!" Her lips trembled. "I’m fine. I really am. I just... didn’t expect it to start like this. Let’s wait a little while first? I am sure everything will be okay."
Another contraction followed, stronger than the last. Selene gasped, fingers digging into the sheets.
"Ah—!"
This ti her head flung back into the pillow, and she bit her lower lip, unable to endure the pain fully. It was like soone boxing inside her womb.
Anastasia looked to Sasha. "We should call him."
"I know... but this stubborn girl!"
They knew that if they called Nikolai, it would be the best thing, and thus they could only ignore Selene’s plea.
Selene shook her head weakly. "No— don’t—"
Her words broke off as the machines let out a rapid series of beeps.
Sasha was already moving. "I’m calling him." She paused, eyes flicking back to Selene. "This isn’t sothing he should hear about after the fact. How would you feel? Don’t be kind, he is the father and probably wants to be here just as much as being with them!"
The blonde rmaid didn’t listen to Selene’s call and instantly dialled Nikolai’s number; she’d already spoken to him and knew he valued Selene more than she realised.
Beep Beep!
"Hello, Nikolai? It’s Sasha, can you co to the hospital ward as soon as you can? Selene’s about to enter labour." His low voice ca instantly before the call cut, and Sasha’s lips curled into a smile. "Good." But she could only endure the daggers from Selene, who glared at her while looking like a total banshee.
