Both Quinn and Erin were a little shocked at the coincidence of finding each other in the doctor’s office. However, upon seeing Quinn, she grew annoyed, and crossed her arms, glaring at him.
"I told you to et in the library, and you weren’t there at all."
"It’s not easy being a level 1," Quinn replied, trying to explain himself.
"What’s that got to do with this? If anything, that’s just your fault for being weak," Erin scoffed.
A couple of people began to glance their way, and they soon began to take their conversation to their internal ssaging tab for privacy. It wasn’t like either one of them wanted to talk about their system stuff publicly anyway.
{Quinn} Hey! I was looking all over the library for you!
{Quinn} You don’t even need my help anymore. How’d you find out a way to drink blood?
{Erin} Soone walked by, so I drank their blood.
Quinn’s eyes widened, and he glanced at Layla’s unconscious body. This had to be the person Erin drank from.
{Quinn} You WHAT?!
{Quinn} You just went and grabbed the first person you saw? What if she reveals your secret?
{Erin} I wouldn’t have needed to do that if you had just gone to the library on ti. This is YOUR fault after all.
{Quinn} I was trying to help, but I got cornered by a group of second years. I couldn’t fight them off because they were several levels above .
{Erin} Excellent excuse, Quinn. Why would the strong attack you?
Quinn blinked in shock. He knew that Erin was previously a level 5 ice ability student, but he didn’t expect her to be blind to the struggles that low levels experienced.
It made Quinn realize that with the level Erin used to have, she had been living the life of a midrange-leveled person, one who didn’t really experience the hardships the low levels did. Because of this, she wasn’t aware of the injustices that the system brought.
{Quinn} I’m a level 1, I don’t have an ability. No one cares for the level 1s.
{Erin} Of course they wouldn’t. You have the opportunity to grow strong, but you don’t take it.
Gritting his teeth, Quinn was tightly clenching his bed, reading her words. If he had the opportunity to never have to get beaten up by yet another ability user, he would’ve taken it years ago.
{Quinn} It’s not like I could’ve afforded an ability book in the first place!
{Quinn} The only book I had, I wasn’t able to open, and I’ve tried buying another one, but I couldn’t even keep using my saved-up money because soone stopped from having access to it.
There was more to the situation Quinn was describing, but he was keeping it simple for the sake of the conversation. Right now, he was letting Erin in on a piece of his mind.
{Quinn} I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there’s mid-levels at the entrance of this school that would beat up anyone who is entering or leaving.
{Erin} Why would they do that? Wouldn’t soone have noticed and tried to help you out?
{Quinn} People do notice, but they’re either too scared to get hurt helping, or are the sa mid-levels who benefit from attacking us.
{Erin} But... Why would they bother attacking you? We already know we’re already stronger than you, so what is there to gain from doing that?
{Quinn} To ROB us, Erin.
By now, Quinn’s anger at Erin had shifted into anger at his situation, and similarly, Erin wasn’t as mad at Quinn in return. Judging by Quinn’s reaction, what he was saying was genuine.
{Quinn} Erin... are you not aware of what happens to low levels? How we get treated like trash? We get attacked relentlessly because we can’t fight back.
It was Erin’s turn to blink in confusion. The whole thing was difficult to comprehend. Even though Erin didn’t attack low levels like the others did, she didn’t pay attention to them either, focusing only on improving herself to achieve her goal.
Layla’s body shuffled, causing both Quinn and Erin to glance her way.
{Quinn} We’re going to need to put a pin on this conversation. How are you going to explain to her what happened? Drinking people’s blood isn’t sothing people normally do.
{Erin} I’ll make sure she stays quiet.
{Quinn} How?
As they were talking ntally, Layla shuffled on her hospital bed. She shivered as she felt cold and tired, not rembering why. As her eyes opened, she saw Erin and another boy having so sort of staring contest while hand gesturing.
Holding a hand to her head, she squinted at the two of them, confused about what was happening, "Why are you two just staring at each other?"
Both Erin and the black-haired boy quickly looked at her, then back at each other.
Layla was recalling what had just happened before she ended up here, and then rembered the paralyzing pleasure that ensued when Erin bit into her earlier that day. A slight flush ca to her face, and she covered it in embarrassnt.
"Hey... Le— Lay..." Erin began, "Girl."
"Wait—!" Layla uncovered her face then looked at Erin, "How do you not know my na? We’ve been roommates for over a week now!"
"Yes I do, it’s Lisa." Erin said with a straight expression.
Layla just gave her roommate a disappointed look.
"We took the test together, and I even introduced myself to you the day we first arrived. How do you not know who I am?" Layla questioned.
Erin stayed silent.
"Look, I know about you and your—" she used her fingers to shape them into fangs around her mouth, "—and I wouldn’t care so much if I shared my blood for you, but how do you not even rember my na?"
Now Quinn was confused about Layla’s reaction. He expected her to get upset, but he thought she’d get more upset about being drunk like a juice box.
"Hey, let’s take this sowhere more..." Quinn glanced around, seeing a few prying eyes, "...more private."
"How about the library? They have those silencing orbs." Erin suggested.
"Absolutely not!" Quinn snapped at her.
"How about my dorm room? My other roommate doesn’t really hang out there." Layla finally said.
"Let’s go then," Erin spoke, standing up.
After getting checked by the doctor again, they were discharged, and they soon headed to Layla and Erin’s dorm room.
