Now reading: Chapter 5: Hospital Stay from Blood Queen Reborn, a Fantasy novel by JKSManga.

For the next week of military school, Quinn was constantly getting reminded just how much life without an ability sucked.

At the military school, each student was given a daily allowance of 10 credits per day, just enough to purchase the basics. Of course, it didn’t an anything if there were students constantly patrolling the school entrances to rob him the mont he wanted to leave.

Then there was the fact that if he was walking alone in a hall and another student ca across him, then it would be a 50/50 chance that the student would take out their frustrations on him. Classes weren’t easy, and Quinn was an easy target to beat down. It wasn’t like Quinn didn’t try to fight back, he always did, but there was only so much he could do against soone with a tiger transformation ability, water ability, hardening ability, and more.

The only reason why Quinn wasn’t constantly covered in bandages all the ti was because he beca a frequent visitor to the school hospital. The doctor there had a healing ability, which made her very busy job just a tad bit easier to deal with, as Quinn was just one of many students who made frequent visits to the hospital.

With each passing day, Quinn grew constantly more and more frustrated that he couldn’t access his investnt money, and his ability book that his parents gave him remained shut. He didn’t know why his book was like this, and he had long suspected that soone glued it shut with industrial-grade glue just to ss with him.

Entering the school hospital yet again, Quinn found himself hugging both his broken arm and his ability book as he walked into a large room with several beds. The beds were lined against the wall and had curtains separating each one to allow for so privacy. Most of the students there were mainly low levels like him, but there were a few 7s and 8s as well.

He walked over to a hospital bed he had unfortunately grown very familiar with. It didn’t take long for the school doctor to notice a newcor to the busy room.

"Sorry it took so long, I’ve just been swamped," Doctor Hayley said as she pushed aside a curtain to get to him.

Hayley wore a white doctor’s coat and had her brown hair tied up in a singular braid behind her head. She also wore large, round glasses, which, compared to Quinn’s, gave a cute, nerdy look to her. All Quinn’s glasses ever did was tell everyone just how broke he was.

Her hands went over Quinn’s arm, broken from a scuffle with a bully after class. Suddenly, he could feel a warm, tingly feeling over his arm as it shifted back into place.

"There, now you should be set," she said with a soft smile.

Quinn nodded, about to leave, when Hayley noticed sothing: the book he had with him.

"Oh? You have a book with you," she comnted. "Are you now just learning an ability?"

Quinn glanced at his book, then to Hayley. "No, I haven’t committed to learning it just yet. I’m just skimming it and seeing if I actually want it or not."

This was a lie, as Quinn really wanted to open up the book, but he still had yet to figure out why it wasn’t opening.

’I wouldn’t normally have it with in case soone tried to steal it, but I needed to see if any equipnt at the campus could’ve opened it,’ Quinn thought.

Hayley sat on her stool, a hand on her chin as she had an idea but wasn’t quite sure if she should say it.

"So... I know you co to this hospital a lot, and you don’t have an ability," Hayley began, tapping the tips of her fingers together. "I was thinking if you would be willing to donate your blood to the hospital."

Initially, Quinn was beyond confused. He usually ca to the hospital quite injured, losing so blood because of a broken nose, cuts from fights, or so other various injuries, but then Hayley winked.

"I’m not allowed to give students credits, but I can give you so money if you do sothing for the hospital. It could always use so blood," Hayley said with a smile.

It was then that Quinn realized what Hayley was getting at. She wanted to help him out beyond just fixing yet another one of his injuries. He knew that the military often turned a blind eye to the massive bullying problem at the school; otherwise, the hospital wouldn’t have gotten as swamped as this. It was likely that Hayley wasn’t allowed to help out the low-leveled students aside from healing them, so this was simply a loophole so she wouldn’t get in trouble.

Quinn agreed to her offer, and Hayley began to take out a needle, drawing out a small bit of blood from Quinn’s arm. She filled a small bag of blood and placed a band-aid where the needle was just at. Once she closed it, she handed Quinn 30 credits, as well as a sticker and a lollipop.

Once he was checked out, Quinn left the hospital and began walking back to his dorm room. While his testing earlier with the military equipnt wasn’t able to open the book, he at least got so credits in the end.

Just as Quinn was leaving the hospital, Erin was teleported into the room by a man with a hood and was bleeding pretty badly from a large cut in her side.

"Don’t touch —" Erin grunted, pushing herself away from the hooded man, but as she did, she nearly fell, her face pale from a lack of blood.

"Oh no— What happened to you?" Hayley said as she helped Erin onto her feet and placed her on the hospital bed that Quinn was just at.

"She was found collapsed in one of the training rooms sparring against one of our training bots," the hooded man said. "But despite getting stabbed by it, she kept pushing on."

Hayley began to place her hands over Erin’s wound, closing part of it up.

"If it weren’t for the watches monitoring her heartbeat, then I wouldn’t have been sent to find you," the hooded man said, slowly turning his head towards Erin as he did.

Hayley only partially closed the wound on Erin, wanting to save her MC for any bigger injuries that would no doubt co their way once the end of curfew ca around. That was when any students found outside of the school would get brought in by the hooded teleporters, most likely because they were knocked unconscious and couldn’t co back on their own. Due to this small fact, Hayley thought it best to refill Erin’s blood using a blood bag instead of her own ability.

Thankfully, Hayley hadn’t put away Quinn’s blood just yet, so it was sitting right there on the table next to Erin. She knew that Quinn’s blood type was O- from his previous visits, so his blood was going to be compatible with Erin no matter what her blood type was. Hooking it up to a stand, the O- blood was now feeding into Erin, and it wouldn’t take long for her blood loss to be cured.

Quinn was speed-walking on his way back to the dorms, a little lightheaded from having his blood drawn. He still held his book tightly just in case anyone was going to take it away from him. Ability books sold for high prices, but this one was his and his alone.

Unfortunately, he ca across a boy holding another boy against the wall.
