Ti/Date: TC1853.01.10-11 (Night to Evening, Day 1-2)

Location: Grandpa Coop’s Safe House, Craftsman’s Quarter, Ring 6

Raven sat cross-legged on the floor of the safe house, the wooden boards smooth and cool beneath her. She’d stripped down to a simple undershirt and loose pants—if this transformation was as violent as she suspected, she didn’t want restrictive clothing making things worse.

The privacy formations humd around her, layering protections that would muffle sound and deflect detection. Outside, the city slept in the deepest hours of night. Inside, Raven prepared to fundantally rewrite what it ant to be human.

Her soul space pulsed with awareness. The Dragon Blood Essence Bead sat there—a sphere roughly 35mm in diater, gleaming with internal golden light. One thousand drops of condensed dragon heart blood. One hundred thousand years of mythical essence compressed into sothing the size of a large marble.

Are you ready? the golden bead that had guided her asked silently.

No, Raven thought honestly. But I’m doing it anyway.

She reached into her soul space with careful intention and drew the Dragon Blood Essence Bead out. The sphere materialized in her palm, warm and thrumming with contained power. It weighed almost nothing, yet felt impossibly heavy—like holding a collapsed star.

For a long mont, she just stared at it. This single object represented more power than most cultivators would touch in their entire lives. Dragon heart blood took a century to form a single drop. This contained a millennium of accumulated essence.

And she was about to absorb all of it.

Raven closed her eyes and opened her hand flat, presenting the bead like an offering.

I’m ready. Show if I’m worthy.

The bead pulsed once. Twice.

Then it began to glow.

***

Hour 1: The Challenge

The Dragon Blood Essence Bead lifted from Raven’s palm, levitating midair. Its golden light flared until she had to shield her eyes. Then it shattered—into a thousand droplets of molten essence, each a miniature sun of concentrated power, hovering in patterns that made her mind reel.

The droplets twisted together, forming a dragon. Full-grown, imnse, serpentine. Scales glowing like molten tal. Its eyes burned with a fire that was both ancient and sentient, weighing her soul, probing her intentions.

Then reality bent.

The safe house dissolved. She was no longer on wooden floorboards, no longer in a city that slept beneath her. The dragon had pulled her into a vision—a world of limitless power. Her hands could bend mountains, summon storms, and ignite oceans. Every betrayal, every injustice from all ninety-nine of her lives, every choice she’d ever made surged around her.

From the edges of the vision, specters erged. Enemies. Torntors. Those she’d failed to save. Their eyes pleaded, cursed, and challenged her.

A voice—not hers—echoed through her mind:

"You have the power to punish. To destroy. To remake this world as you see fit. What will you do?"

Her instincts scread for vengeance. To erase centuries of cruelty, to make every life that had wronged her pay. The fire inside her pulsed, urging her to consu, annihilate, and assert absolute dominion.

And then she felt it—the subtle warmth of the dragon’s gaze, like the quiet heat that warms without burning. Fire doesn’t rely destroy. It transforms. It eradicates decay but nourishes growth. It kills, but it also builds, protects, and sustains.

The vision shifted. Now she saw the sa power applied differently—she healed the broken, shielded the innocent, nurtured life without inflicting needless destruction. Every action had a consequence. Every choice was weighed. Creation and protection beca more powerful than vengeance.

Her resolve crystallized. Not destruction. Not revenge. True rebirth. Justice tempered with rcy. Power wielded to protect, not harm. She extended her hands, imagining a world remade—not by obliteration, but by the righteous channeling of her newfound strength.

The dragon’s fiery form shimred. For a long mont, the molten light probed her soul, testing her. Then it roared—not in judgnt, but approval. The kind of fire that consus yet leaves fertile ash behind.

And with that, the dragon exploded into a thousand droplets. One thousand drops scattered in all directions, moving with impossible speed. They struck her body like tiny glass shards, piercing through skin without leaving wounds. Raven gasped as essence invaded her—arms, legs, torso, face—every part of her body penetrated by dragon heart blood seeking its destination.

The drops didn’t stop at her skin.

They pushed deeper. Through muscle and organ, dispersing throughout her entire body with purposeful intent. And once inside, each drop began to subdivide.

One beca ten. Ten beca a hundred. Hundred beca thousand.

Raven’s breath caught as she felt the process happening at a level far below normal perception. The essence was breaking into smaller and smaller particles, spreading through her body until there were billions, trillions of microscopic fragnts.

Until there was one infinitesimal particle of dragon essence for every cell in her body.

Raven gasped. The trial was over. The challenge had been true, the judgnt final. And with that, the real transformation began.

Hour 2: Cellular Invasion

The pain started as a deep, pervasive burning.

Not surface pain—this ca from within. From the fundantal level where DNA wrote the instructions for what it ant to be Raven. The dragon essence particles invaded her cells, passing through mbranes as if they didn’t exist, seeking the nucleus where the genetic code resided.

Raven’s entire body lit up with sensation as trillions of cells simultaneously experienced intrusion. It felt like being rewritten at the molecular level.

Because that’s exactly what was happening.

The essence particles latched onto her DNA strands and began their work.

She could feel it—sohow, impossibly, she could sense the process occurring in every cell at once. Dragon essence analyzing human genetic code. Finding it... insufficient. Fragile. Limited. The particles began editing, rewriting, and transforming base pairs according to patterns encoded in mythical bloodline knowledge.

Her muscles spasd involuntarily as motor neurons rewired themselves. Her vision blurred as optical cells restructured. Every system in her body experienced simultaneous modification at the deepest possible level.

This wasn’t cultivation energy being added to her body. This was her body being fundantally changed into sothing that could cultivate.

The burning intensified. Raven’s temperature climbed as cellular tabolism went into overdrive, processing the changes, rebuilding proteins according to new specifications. Sweat poured from her skin despite the cool air. Her breathing ca in ragged gasps as even her lungs transford from the inside out.

How long? she wondered desperately. How long does cellular rewriting—

But ti had beco aningless. There was only the burning. The sensation of being unmade and remade simultaneously. The terrible awareness of her own biology changing in ways that couldn’t be undone.

She was becoming sothing other than human.

Sothing more.

***

Hour 3: Foundation Laid

Gradually—though "gradually" felt like an eternity compressed into monts—the cellular burning began to shift. Not lessening exactly, but changing quality. Becoming purposeful rather than chaotic.

The DNA rewriting was complete.

Every cell in Raven’s body now carried instructions written partly in dragon essence. Hybrid code that would let her channel spiritual energy, interface with cultivation techniques, and potentially awaken bloodline abilities that pure humanity could never access.

But the transformation wasn’t finished. The essence particles had completed their editing work, and now they began to migrate.

Raven felt them moving through her body like a tide. Billions of microscopic fragnts responding to so coordinated signal. They flowed through her bloodstream, concentrated in specific locations, gathered with a singular purpose.

They were heading toward her bones.

More specifically, toward the soft marrow tissue at the center of every bone in her skeletal system.

The first wave hit her spine, and Raven’s back arched as new pain exploded through her. This wasn’t burning anymore. This was pressure. Crushing, inexorable pressure from the inside as dragon essence particles packed themselves into her bone marrow with ruthless efficiency.

More waves followed. Femurs. Ribs. Skull. Every bone in her body suddenly beca a focal point for concentrated essence.

And then the marrow began to dissolve.

***

Hours 4-7: Marrow Devouring

If the cellular rewriting had been bad, this was worse.

Raven’s existing bone marrow—the soft tissue responsible for producing blood cells—started to break down under the onslaught of dragon essence. Not quickly. Not rcifully. Slowly, thodically, as the invading particles consud and replaced it with sothing new.

The crushing pressure intensified until Raven couldn’t breathe properly. It felt like her bones were being squeezed from the inside, compressed by impossible force. Her spine felt like it might shatter just from the internal pressure alone.

But worse than the pain was what ca next.

Her blood production stopped.

Raven felt it happen with horrible clarity—the mont when her compromised marrow could no longer manufacture the cells her body desperately needed. Red blood cells stopped forming. White blood cells ceased production. Platelets vanished from circulation.

Without new blood cells, she would die. The human body couldn’t survive long without fresh oxygen carriers, immune defenders, and clotting factors.

The dragon essence was killing her as it transford her.

Must complete quickly or— Her fragnted thoughts recognized the danger. This is where it can all go wrong.

Her fever spiked higher. 105 degrees. 106. Approaching levels that would cook brain tissue, except the dragon essence protected even as it destroyed. Her body burned through its remaining resources at catastrophic rates, desperately trying to sustain itself while its life support systems shut down.

And beneath her skin, golden light began to glow.

The new marrow was forming.

Thread by thread, cell by cell, dragon essence particles assembled themselves into replacent tissue. But this wasn’t human marrow anymore. This was sothing hybrid—flesh infused with mythical power, designed to produce blood cells that could carry spiritual energy alongside oxygen.

The golden glow intensified as the new marrow began its work. Fresh blood cells erged from the transford tissue, and these cells were different. Enhanced. They circulated through Raven’s body carrying that golden luminescence, and everywhere they went, systems began to stabilize.

Her fever started to drop. Her breathing eased slightly. The imdiate threat of death receded as the new marrow proved it could sustain life.

But the transformation wasn’t done. Not even close.

The new marrow needed room to grow properly. Needed space to establish itself without the constraints of old bone structure.

Which ant the bones themselves had to go.

Hours 8-12: Bone Shattering

The first fracture ca without warning.

Raven’s left femur cracked from the inside out—a hairline fracture that sent lightning bolts of agony up her leg. She tried to scream, but her jaw seized as the bones there began to fracture too.

Then everything shattered at once.

Every bone in her body developed fractures simultaneously. Systematic destruction radiating outward from the transford marrow. Ribs cracked in sequence. Vertebrae split along precise lines. The small bones in her hands and feet crumbled like compressed chalk.

Complete paralysis set in as her skeletal structure failed. Raven collapsed onto the floor, unable to control muscles that had nothing solid to anchor against. Her body beca a prison of shattered fragnts held together only by flesh and desperate will.

The pain transcended description. It wasn’t just physical agony—it was existential. The fundantal understanding that everything holding her together was breaking. That she was fracturing into pieces that might never—

Her skull began to crack.

That’s when Raven’s consciousness finally fractured along with her bones. Reality splitting into shards that didn’t connect properly anymore. The safe house ceiling. The crushing agony. Sothing golden at the edge of her vision. A little girl’s face—

Novara.

The na pierced through even the physical tornt. Emotion so strong it cut through everything else. Guilt. Loss. The terrible knowledge of choices made.

And suddenly, Raven wasn’t in the safe house anymore.

The spiritual trial had begun.
