Aurora felt bitterness rise in her chest. It wasn’t fear or helplessness this ti. It was anger at herself.
She had money now. But what else did she have?
In two months, she hadn’t built any real connections. Except Peter, she didn’t know anyone powerful. Yes, she invested in a few tech companies... but could she really rely on them? Would they protect her?
No.
She needed more. She needed allies. She needed power. Influence. Real support.
She looked at Spencer with determination.
"One day," she said slowly, "I’ll get stronger. I’ll earn enough power to help you. I swear I will."
Spencer’s eyes lit up, a smile tugging at his lips. "That’s more than enough," he said warmly. "Just hearing that makes feel like I can face anything."
Aurora rolled her eyes. "Ugh. Who said I want to be with you anyway?"
Spencer laughed.
But then Aurora added sharply, "But let warn you, if you dare to die, I’ll find another boyfriend and marry him!"
Spencer’s eyes widened in horror, like a cat whose tail had just been stepped on. He pulled her into his arms tightly.
"No way!" he said quickly. "You’re not allowed to marry anyone else!"
Aurora smirked, enjoying his reaction. "Then don’t die."
"If you do, I will find soone else," she said again, teasing but serious.
Spencer looked completely helpless, but also deeply touched. His heart thumped hard in his chest.
She wasn’t just saying that to joke. She was trying to make him want to live. She didn’t want to lose him either.
Spencer buried his face in her shoulder. For the first ti in days, he felt that fire inside him again, a burning desire to survive.
Even if things were dark... even if he didn’t have a clear way out... he wanted to live.
Because now, soone was waiting for him.
He clenched his jaw, thinking of his uncle. That man wasn’t just a businessman. He was part of sothing worse, sothing underground. And that made everything more dangerous.
But Spencer didn’t care anymore.
One day, when he had the power, he swore to himself: he would take that uncle down. For everything he had caused.
Spencer and Aurora stood there in each other’s arms, letting the mont linger for a little while longer.
Aurora, breaking the silence, pulled back just a bit and asked, "Hey, does Diana know about all this?"
Spencer imdiately shook his head. "No. I haven’t told anyone except you. Maybe I will tell Aiden and Nash too. But that’s it." He sighed. "I didn’t want to drag them into this, but... strategically, I need their help."
Aurora smirked when she heard Aiden’s na. "Aiden, huh? Have you finally forgiven him for everything?"
Spencer chuckled.
"Well, I want them to promise to help . So yeah, I can only set my differences aside for now." He looked at her. "But it’s complicated with them, you know?"
Aurora raised an eyebrow. "I think I know soone who could help you, too."
Spencer raised an eyebrow back, curious. "Oh? Who?"
Aurora smiled a little, knowing the answer would catch him off guard. "Ms. Dawn."
Spencer shuffled and gave her a confused look.
"Ms. Dawn? She’s powerful, yeah, but when it cos to the underworld... she doesn’t have the connections. I don’t know if she’d be able to help with all of this."
Aurora sighed. "Maybe not now, but one day, Ms. Dawn might be able to help. I don’t know." She paused for a mont, thinking about her words carefully.
"Anyway, don’t worry about that now."
Spencer raised an eyebrow, teasing her. "So what’s your obsession with getting Ms. Dawn to help ?"
Aurora rolled her eyes. "You’re thinking too much. It’s nothing. Forget about it."
She shrugged, a little playful now. "We’ve only got a month left. We should spend it together and make so good mories."
Spencer looked at her, his expression softening.
"But what if... what if you forget the mories we’re going to make?" His voice had a little vulnerability to it.
Aurora’s eyes narrowed, a smirk tugging at her lips. "Do I look that dumb to you?" she teased.
Spencer shook his head quickly, a smile creeping up.
"No, you’re very smart. It’s just that... sotis I’m scared. What if you forget about once I’m gone?" His voice was almost a whisper.
Aurora rolled her eyes again but then leaned in a little closer.
"I won’t forget you, Spencer. Even if the world’s ending, I’ll still rember you." Her voice was soft but certain.
Spencer blinked, then smiled.
"Alright, I’m taking your word seriously. But if you ever break that promise, I’m haunting you forever." He gave her a playful look.
Aurora laughed. "Oh, I’d love to be haunted by your soul form." She teased him, enjoying the mont.
They continued to banter, oblivious to the fact that soone outside the classroom was listening.
Diana stood just outside the door, her fists clenched at her sides. She had overheard everything, the teasing, the laughter, the promises. And it made her stomach turn.
She had loved Spencer so much, and yet, he never once thought about telling her he was leaving. She accepted that she had slept with Aiden and had betrayed Spencer in a way, but nothing was official between them anyway.
They had been friends for so long and had fought side by side.
But now, here she was, standing alone, realizing Spencer didn’t care. Not really.
Tears pricked her eyes, but she didn’t let them fall. She wasn’t going to be weak anymore.
Diana muttered under her breath, "If Spencer doesn’t want , then I won’t be around him anymore. He can suffer on his own." Her voice was cold with bitterness. "And if he dares ask for help, I’ll make sure he regrets it."
With that thought, Diana turned away from the door and walked down the hallway, her steps heavy with resentnt.
On her way out, she quickly sent the recording of Spencer and Aurora’s conversation to Aiden.
