A flicker of admiration rose in his eyes.
His boss truly had a heart tied to this woman.
Spencer’s smile softened. "You ca to see , didn’t you?"
Aurora nodded and stepped closer to the bed.
Sitting on the edge, she reached out and gently pressed her palm to his forehead.
The warmth beneath her hand made her pause.
Her eyes narrowed slightly in concern. "You still have a fever?" she asked quietly.
Spencer gave a faint smile. "It is much better now. I will recover soon, perhaps in a week."
Aurora did not smile back.
She looked at him with troubled eyes but said nothing for a long mont.
Then she lowered her gaze and whispered, "I am sorry."
She did not explain why, but Spencer understood.
She was apologizing for doubting him, for the harsh words she had thrown at him, and for not realizing his pain sooner.
He shifted slightly and said in a gentle tone,
"It is all right. I am the one who should apologize. I should not have let things reach a point where you were hurt too."
Aurora’s lips curved into a fragile smile, but tears shimred at the corners of her eyes.
Seeing her tears, Spencer’s expression turned anxious.
"Why are you crying? What happened?"
Aurora shook her head and wiped her eyes.
"I do not know why it always feels like there are so many hurdles between us. I just missed you so much."
The mont she spoke those words, her tears finally slipped free, sliding down her cheeks.
Spencer looked away for a mont, his gaze fixed on the ceiling as he fought to keep his own emotions in check.
They had t after such a long ti, yet the distance between them still remained.
He finally looked back at her, his voice calm, though it cracked slightly at the end.
"Soon we will be together. It is just a matter of ti."
Aurora nodded and held his hand gently. "I can wait for you," she said softly.
He gave her a faint smile and squeezed her hand.
They talked quietly for a while, sharing small stories and simple words that carried warmth between them.
Gradually, Aurora began to feel drowsy.
Her body grew heavier as the fever crept further in.
Spencer noticed the flush on her cheeks and frowned.
"You are warm," he said suddenly. "Are you running a fever?"
Aurora smiled weakly and shook her head. "It is nothing. Just a slight fever."
Spencer’s expression grew serious.
He imdiately turned to Caleb and ordered, "Call a doctor."
Caleb gave a small nod.
As he stepped out to arrange for the doctor, he could not help but feel moved by what he had witnessed.
Despite being unwell herself, Aurora had traveled all this way to see Spencer.
Their bond, in his eyes, was like sothing out of a storybook.
Aurora leaned back slightly, trying to convince Spencer she was fine, but he refused to listen.
When the doctor finally arrived, he examined her carefully and announced that she had caught a viral fever.
After the doctor left, quiet returned to the bedroom.
Spencer turned his head toward Aurora.
His eyes, which had been gentle monts ago, now carried a sharp, almost scolding look.
"Why did you even co when you had a fever?" he asked in a low but firm voice.
"Do you realize what could have happened if your fever got worse? You could have collapsed sowhere or been in real danger."
Aurora’s brows drew together in a faint frown.
She looked at him with confusion.
"I ca all this way... I travelled so much even though I was not feeling well, and yet the first thing you do is get angry at ."
Spencer’s jaw tightened.
He could see that she was not grasping the real issue.
His voice rose a little.
"You do not understand. I am angry because you did not think about what could have gone wrong. It was reckless."
Aurora’s frown deepened.
Her lips pressed together as if she wanted to argue back.
Spencer noticed it and was about to raise his voice further. But then he stopped himself.
He took a breath and looked at her again.
The anger in his eyes softened.
He realized that this was one of those rare tis when they could end up fighting over their concern for each other.
He did not want to ruin the evening like that.
Aurora, too, lowered her gaze. She understood that he was not wrong.
With a small sigh, she said quietly, "I know... I understand that you are worried about ."
Spencer’s shoulders relaxed slightly.
"And I understand that you have sacrificed a lot just to be here."
Aurora lifted her head a little and gave him a faint smile.
"I was not sick before. I think I caught the fever after I got on the plane."
Hearing that, Spencer nodded slowly. "I see."
Then Spencer moved his arm slightly, opening it as if to invite her closer.
Aurora did not hesitate. She leaned forward and rested against him, wrapping her arms around him.
For a while, they stayed like that, saying nothing.
The warmth of each other’s presence was enough. The evening passed in quiet peace.
Later at night, when it was ti for Aurora to leave, she stood near the door of the bedroom.
Her steps were slow and reluctant.
Spencer looked at her with the sa reluctance in his eyes.
As she turned to go, he reached out and held her hand.
His grip was firm yet gentle.
"I know you ca here in disguise this ti," he said.
"But if you keep coming here like that, people will start noticing sothing unusual."
Aurora gave a small laugh and waved her free hand lightly.
"Do not worry. I have many disguises. I will manage on my own."
Spencer shook his head slightly, still not entirely at ease.
"I will assign a few bodyguards to you. At least you will not be alone if sothing happens."
