Alex was 3 years older than Lucas.

He was Mary’s first son.

Other than his na, Aurora didn’t know much about him. And honestly, she doesn’t want to know about him.

She couldn’t bring herself to love him.

Why?

Because she knew Mary loved Alex more than all of them.

Mary might forget to kiss them goodnight every night, but she would never forget to think about Alex every day.

She had seen how Mary had hidden a childish drawing in her drawer and sees it every night before going to bed.

Alex’s face was blurred in her dreams, but so blurred information about him being her mother’s first child appeared in her mind, confirming his identity.

The mont she knew the truth, Aurora felt uncomfortable and even started to think of ways to make Alex leave.

But the scene changed in front of her, and alternate ending appeared in front of her.

An ending where Alex left before the story and died.

Her mother couldn’t endure the grief and tried to commit suicide. Her brother Lucas tried to stop her but failed and died along with her.

It was like the Final Destination movie.

Even if she helps her family avoid their fate, the end result is still the sa.

’No, my brother won’t need to marry a rich woman this ti...so the future in front of is bound to not happen.’ Aurora thought.

Yet the future didn’t change, aning that Aurora’s theory was incorrect.

’What if I make brother leave the country?’ Aurora thought.

Another alternate ending appeared. This ti, Mary followed the original plot and died, while Lucas died in a flight accident.

Aurora gritted her teeth as the alternate endings kept appearing before her eyes, each one ending in tragedy.

No matter what choice she made—whether to push Alex away, send Lucas abroad, or even make drastic changes—her family still t the sa dood fate.

Her mind raced as she tried to find a loophole, a way to break free from this seemingly inevitable outco.

’No...why are you treating Alex with hostility? Just treat him well...maybe the outco will change...’ Aurora’s inner voice echoed.

Just as she thought so, another alternate ending appeared in front of her.

But the ending was a blur to her.

This was a positive outco for Aurora.

At least her eldest brother and mother didn’t die!

Having a solution in her heart, Aurora felt relaxed and drifted in her dream.

What she didn’t know was that, though the ending was blurred, the screen ti of the ending increased to 5 minutes.

.............

The next day.

Aurora woke up feeling sleepy.

Her increasing sleep ti had concerned the Waters family, and they started to consult the doctor.

The doctor had already run a test and ca to the conclusion that other than wilms tumors, nothing else was wrong with Aurora’s body.

The Waters family could only feel anxious.

When Mary ca to visit Aurora, Aurora smiled and chatted about random things before suddenly saying,

"Mom...do you still et your first son?"

Mary’s hands trembled slightly as she set down the bowl of soup she had brought for Aurora.

Her lips parted as if to say sothing, but she quickly pressed them together, her expression unreadable.

Aurora watched her mother’s reaction carefully.

The way Mary’s shoulders tensed, the way her gaze shifted as if searching for the right words—it was all the confirmation Aurora needed.

She still thought about Alex.

She still cared.

"...Why do you ask?" Mary finally spoke, her voice quieter than usual.

Aurora pretended to be curious rather than knowing too much. She tilted her head, feigning innocence.

"I just had a dream about him."

Mary’s expression darkened. She let out a heavy sigh and sat down beside Aurora’s bed.

"Oh."

"Mother, have you t him?"

"I... I haven’t seen him in years," she admitted, her voice laced with guilt. She didn’t dare to look in Aurora’s direction at all.

"Why? Did your ex-husband impose any restrictions?"

Mary nodded with a complex expression.

"He was ruthless," she whispered, her voice trembling.

"I didn’t have the power or the ans to fight back. When I married into the Waters family, I thought I could bring Alex with eventually... but I was wrong."

Aurora remained silent, waiting for her mother to continue.

"He made sure I looked like an unfit mother in every legal docunt, every court proceeding," Mary continued bitterly.

"He bribed officials, manipulated testimonies... he even convinced Alex that I abandoned him willingly."

There was another reason too...

Her children might not be ready to accept Alex at all.

Aurora’s breath hitched. "So Alex... he hates you?"

Mary let out a bitter laugh.

"I don’t know. I wasn’t there when he needed most. If he doesn’t hate ...then he resents for sure."

Aurora bit her lip.

"What if I ask you to bring him to our house?" She asked hesitantly.

Mary’s head snapped up, her eyes wide.

"You...why? Why do you want to bring him back?"

"I just wish for a complete family." Aurora lied. Alex was the key to her family’s survival.

"I disagree." A voice interrupted their conversation.

Aurora and Mary were stunned and turned to see Adriana standing at the door.

She had a furious expression on her face,

"We can’t bring him back. Let’s be serious, Mom, our financial condition isn’t great. Not to ntion you left your first son to his father’s side in the first place because his father was wealthy."

Mary’s face paled at Adriana’s blunt words, her lips pressing into a thin line.

"That’s not—" she started, but Adriana cut her off.

"Don’t lie to us, Mom," Adriana said coldly, stepping further into the room.

"You didn’t fight for him back then because it was easier to let his father take him. And now you want to bring him back after all these years? After we’ve been struggling just to get by?"

Aurora flinched at the bitterness in her sister’s tone.

It was clear that Adriana carried her own resentnt, one that had been festering for a long ti.
