"That is the problem. Anyways, Alex, since you are her brother now, you should protect her." Olivia said with a grim expression.
After Aurora fell into a coma, Olivia realized a problem.
None of the family mbers can accompany her the entire day except for Emily.
However, at the end of the day, Emily was an outsider. Only Aurora’s own blood kin can care for her.
Olivia wanted to recruit as many protectors as she could.
Alex, however, remained silent.
Protect?
He never did that thing.
For the past 20 years, he only focused on protecting himself.
Not to ntion, though he had a good impression of Aurora, in the end, Aurora was still a stranger to him.
Seeing him silent, Olivia rolled her eyes but didn’t force him.
Twisted lons aren’t sweet.
Just then, Olivia’s phone rang. The caller ID made her frown, and she stood up,
"Hey, I have to attend this call. I will co back in 10 minutes."
With that, she left.
Alex: "..." Why is she so frank with ?
His gaze voluntarily turned toward Aurora, and he remained silent for the next 10 minutes.
"Um...Aurora, if you can hear ...then I would like to say thank you."
Aurora chuckled in her heart.
Thank you?
The male lead was saying thank you?
How...cute.
Soon, Olivia returned and started to chat with Aurora.
Days passed by.
For Aurora, many things had changed.
There was an additional person who guarded her. Alex.
At first, he was very silent and hardly ever conversed with her. Gradually, as if venting his emotions, he started to tell her everything that was bothering him.
"Aurora, why do you think my mother stays away from most of the ti? I can see that she cares for , so why does she maintain a distance?"
Then, as if answering his own question, he would say,
"No...I always felt as if she was hiding sothing. Am I overthinking? Ugh...I am so confused!"
"Aurora, thank you for ntioning to bring back. In my original house, I was always mistreated by my half-brother Jasper."
"You know what? Today, Jasper called . He warned to return otherwise, I could forget about inheriting my father’s business. I scoffed and hung up. He must be dying from anger now!"
"Hey, Aurora, I am curious. Olivia said that you wished to bring back to the Waters family because of my appearance. Is it true?"
"Aurora, when will you wake up? Your family mbers were truly sad today."
Aurora, lying in her comatose state, listened to Alex’s words with an amused yet bittersweet heart. If only she could open her eyes and answer him.
Ti passed, and Alex’s once-reluctant visits turned into a routine.
He would sit by her side, sotis ranting, sotis lost in thought, but always returning.
He didn’t realize it himself, but he had started treating Aurora as sothing more than a stranger—perhaps even as family.
One evening, Alex entered the hospital room with a deep frown, his usual composure shaken.
He sat down beside Aurora, rubbing his face in frustration before exhaling sharply.
"Aurora... Jasper isn’t giving up." His voice was laced with irritation.
"He sent soone to follow today. Do you believe that? A damn spy."
Aurora wanted to roll her eyes. Of course, she believed it. Jasper was the kind of person who couldn’t tolerate losing.
Alex clenched his fists.
"I don’t know what he’s planning, but I swear, I’m not going back to that hellhole."
His voice softened as he glanced at her. "Not after finally feeling like I belong sowhere."
His admission startled even him. A month ago, he wouldn’t have dread of saying such words.
But here he was, talking to Aurora as if she were truly listening. And deep down, he hoped she was.
A soft knock interrupted his thoughts, and he turned to see Olivia entering the room, her expression unusually serious.
"Alex, your father has reached out to us."
Alex stiffened, his fingers curling into his palms.
"My father? What does he want now?" he asked, his voice laced with a mix of suspicion and frustration.
Olivia sighed and took a seat beside him, her gaze briefly flickering toward Aurora before settling back on Alex.
"He wants to et with you. In person. He claims he wants to make ands."
Alex scoffed.
"Ands? That’s rich coming from him. The man barely acknowledged for twenty years. Now, all of a sudden, he cares?"
His jaw was clenched. "Let guess—Jasper is behind this."
Olivia nodded.
"Most likely. Your father may be the head of the family, but Jasper has a lot of influence over him. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is part of his plan to bring you back under his control."
Alex pursed his lips before giving a weak smile,
"Don’t worry, I will deal with him."
Olivia blinked in surprise before shaking her head,
"I didn’t tell you everything because I want you to deal with him. I just want to let you know. In case you want to et him."
"I have no intention of eting him," Alex said finally. "I’m done with that family."
From a place where Olivia can’t see, Alex unclenches his hand. A sense of relief washed over him.
After leaving his father’s house, Alex realised how beautiful the world was.
He didn’t have to worry about Jasper’s mood, didn’t have to beg his father to fight on his behalf, and didn’t have to kneel or be tortured.
Life had beco so peaceful that for a mont, Alex even wondered if he was living in a fairytale.
"Good." Olivia nodded her head.
Aurora, who had heard the entire conversation, heaved a sigh of relief.
Thank god everything was going great.
For the next 6 months, everything remained normal.
However, Aurora soon noticed a problem.
Alex’s visits beca less frequent. And he never appeared when the Waters family was around.
Aurora thought she was overthinking.
