Now reading: Chapter 72: Huh! Not so unbeatable now, are they? from Born in apocalypse, a Fantasy novel by COSMIC04.

As the smoke quickly dissipated, they moved their gazes frantically to find the corpse of their fallen enemy. To their disappointnt, there was no sign of their opponent’s corpse. Instead, they discovered that Vexar had surrounded himself with shields from all sides.

"You aren’t the only one with shield at their disposal," A voice rang out from inside the shield.

Alaric let out a sigh as he recalled the recent brawl with the Crystallce. Since the monster didn’t descend from the sky afraid of his tentacles, he decided not to waste any more ti and decided to go help Vexar instead.

He made the decision at a critical mont, just in the nick of ti on top. If he had been even one second late, Vexar would have been riddled with holes from top to bottom.

Canceling the shield, he quickly activated the skill "Twilight Aura," creating a pitch-black spherical of one-ter diater around him. While activating the skill he had already signaled Vexar.

Three of them managed to escape the radius, but one wasn’t so fortunate.

Instantly, Vexar ignited his sword and launched an attack. This ti, he managed to strike perfectly, directly aiming for the head. The sword penetrated halfway through the neck before coming to a halt. Realizing he wouldn’t get the perfect opportunity again, he heated the sword to its maximum limit before risking damage to it.

"INFARNNOO SWORD SLASH"

With a shout, he decapitated the Crystallce. As its head rolled on the ground, a fountain of blue liquid began to gush from the severed neck, but it couldn’t spray far as it instantly evaporated due to the intense heat of the attack.

Alaric found himself surprised when he saw that Vexar had successfully killed the Crystallce. He was surprised because he had expected the monster to use a shield to defend itself, but it didn’t. After a few monts of pondering, he realized the reason behind this unexpected behavior.

Smiling, he turned toward the group and said with a mocking expression, "It’s about dammm ti you started to run low on mana after using all those fancy attacks."

Indeed, he was correct; all those fancy and mana-intensive attacks had begun to place a heavy burden on their core. If it weren’t for the fact that they were at Tier 3 with a full core, they would have run dry long ago.

The group of Crystallce didn’t find the remark funny, especially considering one of their mbers had died. With only four of their mbers left—their last mber, who had gone to assassinate the golem, had also returned— they moved to finish the fight as soon as possible.

The Crystallce, their icy appearance concealing the imnse anger, launched the assault. Ice shards flew like razors, while frosty breath snaked toward them. Vexar skillfully parried, while Alaric cast a shield skillfully.

"Clang" "Clang"

The room echoed with the clanging of swords and the crackling of magic as the fight began in earnest.

Despite their initial launch, the Crystallce found themselves overpowered pretty soon. Along with a nearly depleted mana core, their frustration grew with each passing mont.

Their anger clouded their judgnt, and in their fury, they made a mistake. Alaric, with his keen senses, noticed the flaw instantly.

He quickly disappeared, swiftly repairing from behind one of the Crystallce mbers. With a precise strike of his dagger, he sliced the throat of the monster.

The sudden loss of another mber made them even angrier. Now the anger is easily reflected in their behaviour.

Alaric was getting happier by the mont he saw them losing their cool, but suddenly his his smile stopped and turned into a frown.

Panic briefly clouded their mind but crystallces quickly redirected their focus. Rather than attacking Vexar and Alaric directly, they shifted their attention to an egg.

Their desperation was clearly written all over their face as they lunged towards the egg. They ran with all their might, their frosty hands trembling with anticipation.

But the only thing they t with was disappointnt when they noticed a dark shield enveloped the precious egg, protecting it from any harm.

With a collective effort, the Crystallce unleashed a barrage of ice magic upon the shield.

Multiple icy bolts lashed out, assaulting the protective barrier with unrelenting fury. The sound of assault filled the surroundings yet the shield still held strong.

As the Crystallce strained to break the shield, Vexar and Alaric caught up to them. Vexar conjured flas hotter and more volatile than ever, sending them crashing into the Crystallce like a blazing tempest.

Alaric’s shadows danced threatening to drown the whole surround into the darkness.

But the Crystallce were relentless. They refused to yield, driven by their insanity they were determined to destroy the egg. Making a semicircle stance. each of them summoned the last reserves of their ice magic and launched the greatest attack they could muster.

The mont the attack hit the shield, fractures began to form on it. With the final push of the rest of the monster, the shield finally fell down.

The Crystallce believed they had succeeded and rushed toward the now unprotected egg. However, they were forced to halt their steps when an unexpected shockwave hit them.

A tremor rippled through the room. The very ground beneath their feet quaked, threatening to throw them off balance. The Crystallce hesitated for a mont as if they knew the horror was about to awaken.

Vexar and Alaric didn’t hesitate and seized the opportunity to mount a fierce counterattack. Vexar’s flas roared with renewed vigor, engulfing one of the Crystallce in a blazing inferno. The icy mage scread as the flas consud them, leaving nothing but a scorched silhouette.

Alaric, too, exploited the distraction and drowned one of them in his shadow.

The ground beneath them shook violently once again, threatening to collapse. It was as if the very foundations of the world were rebelling against his birth...

The last remaining Crystallce finally managed to calm itself down and focused all its energy as it looked toward the egg.

Undeterred by the quaking earth, it remained focused and concentrated all its energy as it made a determined dash toward the egg.

With a final surge of its power, it transford its hand into a lance, and with all its strength it attacked the egg.

"Crack"

It heard the sound of a crack and thought had succeeded in it, but fate had other plans.

Suddenly, it started to feel its body depleting of energy with each passing mont. The mont he gazed landed on the reason behind this sudden pinch and to its horror, it found a hand had pierced through its chest and now was clutching its core.

"Ah-h-h-hh-"

It heard a weird sound before the hand pulled the core from its body.

In his final mont, the Crysatllce saw, the hand lift the core toward its mouth and crush it into powder with just brute strength.."

Before its vision turned into total darkness a single thought crossed her mind...

"F..for..give my quee..."
