I flex my fingers slowly testing, and they respond weakly.
But there.
"Thank you," I murmur, my voice quieter now.
He doesn’t respond, just steps back watching again.
I lower my hands slightly, breathing through the lingering pain.
But inside.....my mind is racing. Because Aaron is still standing there and watching . And I’m starting to feel nothing about this feels like sothing I can talk my way out of.
I stare at him.
Trying to find sothing familiar in his face. Anything at all, but all I see is soone I don’t recognize. Soone who looks at like I’m the enemy.
My throat tightens.
"Aaron..." I say slowly, my voice softer now.
"What did I do wrong?"
"I thought we were friends."
My chest aches saying it out loud, because I ant that. Every bit of it.
"I trusted you," I add, my voice dropping slightly.
"We were... good."
I swallow.
"So what went wrong?"
For a second, he just looks at ....witj no reaction. Nothing
Then sothing seems to snap in him.
"You have the nerve to ask that?" he bursts out. His voice loud, so loud it echoes in the room and makes my heart jump.
I flinch slightly but hold my ground.
"Yes," I say, more firmly now.
"Because I don’t know."
My brows pull together, frustration creeping in.
"I don’t know why you decided to betray ....."
"Betray you?" he cuts in, letting out a harsh, disbelieving laugh.
"You think this is about betrayal?"
"What else would you call it then?" I shoot back.
My voice rising without aning it to.
"You brought herr...tied up...pointed a gun at ....what am I supposed to think, Aaron?"
My chest is rising faster now, my anger starting to mix with the confusion.
"With everything that’s been happening, you’re the last person I expected this from."
That part slips out raw nd unfiltered because it’s true.
He goes still dor a split second.
Then.....
"It’s because you took everything from !" he shouts.
I blink. Thrown off and confused
"What...?"
"You," he says, pointing at now, his hand shaking slightly.
"You took him away from ."
My mind stutters, struggling to catch up.
"Him?"
I shake my head slowly.
"Who the hell are you talking about?"
There’s a wild look in his eyes now, sothing unhinged. Sothing I’ve never seen before.
"Zane! You took Zane from !" he snaps.
The na lands like a slap nd I just sit , I just stare at him. My head Completely blank, like my brain refuses to process what he just said.
"...what the fuck?"
The word slips out before I can stop it, because nothing about what he just said makes that makes sense, not even a little.
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
My voice cos out sharper now, disbelief bleeding through every word.
Aaron lets out a bitter laugh.
"You really don’t see it, do you?"
"See what?" I shoot back.
"Zane?" I repeat, my brows furrowing deeper.
"How the hell did I take Zane from you?"
My chest tightens again, Sothing about this feeling wrong and off. Loke I’ve stepped into a conversation I was never ant to be part of
"You married him," Aaron says, his voice dropping lower now and colder.
"And you think that ans nothing?"
I stare at him, still trying to understand.
"Are you being serious right now?"
"Very."
I shake my head.
"No... no, cause this doesn’t make any fucking sense."
A nervous, disbelieving breath leaves .
"You’re talking lik...like I stole sothing from you."
His jaw tightens.
"Because You did."
The certainty in his voice sends a chill down my spine.
"Aaron, he’s my husband," I say, slower now, tryjh to ground this in reality.
"You act like I just.....what? Took him from you overnight?"
"You did," he snaps again.
"I had him first."
That stops completely as my eyes widen slightly.
"...you what?"
Now I’m really confused.
No. Not just confused.....I’m disturbed.
"What do you an you had him first?" I ask, my voice quieter now, beecause I’m not sure I want the answer.
Aaron’s expression darkens. Lkke he’s been holding this in for a vey long ti.
"You don’t get it," he mutters.
"No, I don’t," I say imdiately.
"Because nothing you’re saying is making any sense."
My heart is beating harder again but not from fear this ti, just frkm the sheer weight of what he’s implying.
"You’re talking about Zane like he.....like he belongs to you."
He doesn’t deny it, not even for a second and that’s what really hits.
"What the fuck...?" I whisper, more to myself than him.
Because now..... Now I’m starting to realize this isn’t just anger or just betrayal, this is sothing deeper wnd twisted and I’m not even sure I fully understand it yet.
Aaron lets out a slow breath, like he’s trying to rein himself in.
"We were good," he starts, his voice lower now.
"We were... really good."
I don’t like the way he says that, there’s sothing in the way he said it that that doesn’t sit right in my chest.
"We understood each other," he continues.
His eyes drift slightly, like he’s seeing sothing that isn’t here.
"Worked together and trusted each other."
I cut him off before he can go any further.
"Does Zane know you have a crush on him?"
Aaron’s head snaps back toward fast, his expression shifting instantly. He looks offended..?
"It’s not a crush," he says.
There’s a bite to it.
I hold his gaze and don’t back down.
"Then what is it?"
There’s a pause then.....
"I love him."
He says it just like that. No hesitation or sha.
Just... truth and I don’t even know how to react so I just stare at him.
"You’re serious," I say slowly.
More statent than question.
"Very." His eyes don’t leave mine, not even for a second.
"And I know what I felt wasn’t one-sided.
