CHAPTER FOUR: THE SYSTEM AWAKENS

The night was heavy with silence.

Shen Chen lay in his bed, staring at the ceiling, his body rigid with exhaustion. Sleep would not co. It never did these days.

Three weeks had passed since his cousin Shen Hao's advancent ceremony. Three weeks of whispered insults, pitying glances, and the slow, grinding weight of his father's disappointnt. The other children had stopped speaking to him entirely, as if his ordinariness was contagious. The servants had grown bolder in their neglect, forgetting his als, leaving his chambers untended.

And now this.

Earlier that evening, his father had summoned him to the study. Shen Tian had sat behind his massive desk, his face carved from stone, and delivered the news with the clinical detachnt of a rchant settling accounts.

"I have arranged for you to be sent to the Cloud Valley Sect," his father had said. "It is a minor sect, suitable for those with limited talent. You will leave at the end of the month."

Shen Chen had felt the words like a blade to the chest. The Cloud Valley Sect was barely more than a training ground for mortals. It was where the Shen Clan sent its failures, its castoffs, its unwanted children. Once he went there, he would never be allowed to return to the main compound. He would be forgotten, erased from the family records, as if he had never existed.

"Father, please," he had begged, his voice cracking. "I can try harder. I can—"

"You have tried for ten years," Shen Tian had interrupted, his voice cold. "There is nothing left to try. You are what you are, Shen Chen. It is ti to accept that."

The words had followed him to his chambers, echoing in his mind like a death knell. You are what you are. It is ti to accept that.

But he couldn't accept it. He couldn't.

Shen Chen sat up in bed, his body trembling. The room was dark, the only light coming from the faint glow of the spirit lanterns outside his window. The silence pressed against him like a physical weight.

He looked down at his hands. Ordinary hands. The hands of a failure.

"Why?" he whispered into the darkness. "Why am I like this? Why can't I be like everyone else?"

There was no answer. There never was.

He had asked the question a thousand tis. He had prayed to the heavens, begged the ancestors, pleaded with whatever force might be listening. But the answer was always the sa: silence.

Shen Chen closed his eyes, feeling the familiar despair wash over him. It was a cold, numbing sensation, like drowning in an endless sea. He had grown used to it over the years. It was his constant companion, the only thing that never abandoned him.

But tonight was different.

Tonight, the despair was sharper, more acute. It cut through him like a blade, leaving him raw and bleeding. He could feel the tears building behind his eyes, hot and bitter.

He didn't try to stop them. There was no one to see. No one to care.

The first tear fell, trailing down his cheek. Then the second. Then a flood.

Shen Chen buried his face in his pillow, trying to muffle the sound of his sobs. His body shook with the force of his grief, his chest heaving with each ragged breath.

Why? Why am I so weak? Why can't I be strong? Why won't anyone help ?

The questions spiraled through his mind, each one more desperate than the last. He had never felt so alone, so utterly abandoned. His mother was dead. His father had given up on him. His cousins mocked him. His clan had cast him out.

There was nothing left. No hope. No future.

Shen Chen cried until there were no tears left. He lay in the darkness, his body limp, his mind empty. The despair was still there, a cold weight in his chest, but it had dulled to a distant ache.

He closed his eyes, wishing for sleep. Wishing for oblivion. Wishing for anything that would make the pain stop.

And then, without warning, the world changed.

[System Binding Complete.]

[Host: Shen Chen.]

[Celestial Repository: Tier 1.]

[Initializing...]

[Welco, Host. Your journey to the peak begins now.]

Shen Chen's eyes snapped open.

He stared at the glowing ethereal screens that had appeared before his eyes, his mind struggling to comprehend what he was seeing. The screens were translucent, their edges shimring with a soft, silver light. The text that floated across them was clear and precise, as if written by an invisible hand.

What... what is this? he thought, his heart pounding.

[This is the Celestial Repository. It contains the resources, techniques, and knowledge of the Boundless Realm. It is bound to your soul, to be used as you see fit.]

Shen Chen's breath caught in his throat. He reached out a trembling hand, trying to touch the screen. His fingers passed through it, leaving ripples in the ethereal surface.

"Is this... is this real?" he whispered, his voice hoarse.

[This is real, Host. You are not dreaming. The Celestial Repository is bound to you. It will never leave you.]

Shen Chen felt a surge of emotion—hope, fear, confusion, relief—all crashing together like waves against a shore. He had spent his entire life being told he was worthless, ordinary, a failure. And now this... this impossible thing had appeared before him.

"What is the Celestial Repository?" he asked, his voice trembling.

[The Celestial Repository is a storehouse of power. It contains techniques, resources, artifacts, and knowledge from the Boundless Realm, the origin of all existence. As you grow stronger, more of the Repository will unlock.]

"The Boundless Realm?" Shen Chen repeated, the words foreign on his tongue. "What is that?"

[That is a story for another ti. Right now, you must focus on your cultivation. You are weak. Very weak.]

Shen Chen flinched at the words. "I know I'm weak. Everyone tells that. They say I'm worthless. That I'll never amount to anything."

[Worth is not determined by the opinions of others. Worth is determined by what you do. By how far you are willing to go. By how much you are willing to sacrifice.]

Shen Chen stared at the screen, his mind racing. "But I can't cultivate. I've tried. There's nothing inside . My spiritual roots are empty."

[That is because your spiritual roots are sealed. They have been sealed since birth, hidden from the world. But the seal can be broken.]

Shen Chen's heart stopped.

Sealed?

"Sealed?" he repeated, his voice barely a whisper. "By who? Why?"

[That is not information I can provide at this ti. But know this: the seal is not a punishnt. It is a protection. There are forces in this world that would kill you if they knew what you truly carry.]

Shen Chen's hands clenched into fists. Years of confusion, of self-doubt, of feeling like sothing was fundantally wrong with him—and now he had an answer. He wasn't broken. He wasn't worthless. He had been sealed.

"Protection from what?" he demanded, his voice rising. "What is so dangerous about that soone would seal my spiritual roots?"

[The answer to that question will co in ti. For now, you must focus on the present. You are weak. You have been oppressed, dismissed, and cast aside. But that can change. The Celestial Repository can give you the power to rise.]

Shen Chen felt a fire kindle in his chest. It was small at first, barely a spark, but it grew with each passing mont. It was the fire of defiance, the fire of hope, the fire of a boy who had been told his entire life that he was nothing.

"How?" he asked, his voice steady. "How do I break the seal?"

[Breaking the seal requires ti and resources. The seal is old and powerful, woven by a master of ancient techniques. But the Celestial Repository is rich with resources that can assist in the process.]

[New Host Gift Detected: The Heaven Rebirth Pill.]

[The Heaven Rebirth Pill is a legendary elixir from the Boundless Era. It was created by the Alchemy Saint of the Ninth Era, a being whose mastery of pill refinent was unmatched. The pill has the power to completely transform a cultivator's foundation—ridians, dantian, spiritual roots, and even physique.]

[Effect: Complete rebirth of the host's cultivation foundation. All seals and blockages will be shattered. The host's ridians will be expanded and purified. The host's physique will be upgraded to a Heaven-tier physique. The host's spiritual roots will be transford to an unknown grade (estimation: Supre tier or above).]

[Warning: The process is extrely painful. The body will be torn apart and rebuilt from the cellular level. There is a 5% chance of permanent injury or death.]

[Accept Gift? Yes/No]

Shen Chen stared at the screen, his mind reeling. A Heaven Rebirth Pill? A legendary elixir from the Boundless Era? It sounded like sothing out of a myth, a story told to children to inspire them.

And yet, here it was. Real. Tangible. Waiting for him.

"There's a chance I could die?" he asked, his voice hollow.

[Yes, Host. The process is dangerous. Your body is currently weak and untrained. The transformation will be traumatic. But the reward is unparalleled. You will erge as a being of imnse potential, capable of rivaling the greatest prodigies of the Supre Heaven.]

Shen Chen was silent for a long mont. The weight of the decision pressed down on him like a mountain.

He thought of his father's cold eyes, his cousin's mocking laughter, the servants' pitying glances. He thought of the Cloud Valley Sect, the place where the clan sent its failures to be forgotten. He thought of the endless years of despair, of feeling like he was drowning in a sea of ordinariness.

And then he thought of what it would an to be reborn. To be transford. To rise from the ashes of his old self and beco sothing new.

He made his decision.

"I accept," he said, his voice firm. "Give the pill."

[Celestial Repository: Tier 1.]

[WARNING: The transformation process will begin imdiately. Please lie down and prepare for intense pain.]

"I'm ready," he said. "Do it."

But through the pain, through the agony, through the desperate struggle to stay conscious, Shen Chen felt sothing else.

It was small at first, a faint glimr in the darkness. But it grew with each passing mont, pulsing through his newly ford ridians, filling his expanded dantian with energy. It was the power of the Boundless Realm, the energy of creation itself, flowing through him like a river of light.
