Rebecca’s POV
"I... I didn’t..." I choked out, but the words were instantly strangled in my throat as his grip tightened.
The pressure was imnse. It felt like my neck would snap at any second under his raw, terrifying power. The dark aura coming off him was so heavy it pressed flat against the shelf, making it impossible to move a single muscle. Tears of pure pain and fear leaked from my eyes, slipping down my cheeks and onto his large, calloused hand.
"Do not lie to , murderer!" the man roared, his voice powerful enough to shake the entire library.
The wooden shelves behind rattled, and a few heavy books fell to the floor with loud thuds. His pitch-black eyes glared into mine with a hate so deep it made my soul shiver. "I found you lying right next to her body! Covered in her blood!"
I shook my head weakly, desperately gasping for air. My hands flew up instinctively, wrapping around his thick wrists as I tried to claw his fingers away from my neck. But it was like trying to move solid stone. I was completely at his rcy.
Through the narrow gaps between the tall bookshelves, I could see the rest of the pack watching.
Alpha Kelvin, my father, stood at the front of the crowd. He wasn’t trying to save . Instead, he glared at with deep embarrassnt and burning rage. Next to him stood my stepmother and Monica, who was clinging tightly to Brandon’s arm. Monica wore a tiny, wicked smile, while Brandon stared at the floor, completely refusing to et my eyes.
"Alpha King, please!" My father, Alpha Kelvin, stepped forward, bowing his head deeply in respect. "She is nothing but a useless maid, the mistake of my past! If she killed the Queen, our pack had nothing to do with it! We will help you execute her right now!"
The Alpha King.
The realization hit like a slap to the face. This terrifying, beautiful man holding by the throat was Alpha King Kaden. And the dead woman on the floor... was his Queen.
"Shut up!" King Kaden snarled, not even looking back at my father. His dark aura flared out, making Alpha Kelvin and every other wolf in the room instantly drop to their knees from the sheer weight of his power.
Kaden brought his face closer to mine, his hot breath brushing against my skin. His claws dug a little deeper into my neck, just enough to draw a tiny drop of blood.
"Death is too easy for you," Kaden whispered, his voice terrifyingly low, like a promise of pure torture. "You took my mate. You took my unborn child. I will make your life a living hell."
"I didn’t do it..." I choked out, the words barely escaping my squeezed throat. "I was... I was passed out..."
"She is lying, Alpha King!"
A sharp, crying voice broke through the crowd. I forced my eyes to shift and saw Monica step forward, tears spilling down her cheeks as she looked at the King with fake horror. Brandon stayed right behind her, keeping his head down like a coward.
"Father asked to co get Rebecca because she wasn’t at the festival!" Monica lied, her voice shaking perfectly with fake tears. "And when I ca closer to the library, I heard the sounds of a struggle. Then I heard Rebecca saying, ’Once you are gone, I will have the King to myself!’"
My eyes widened in pure horror. What?!
"When I opened the door," Monica continued, pointing a shaking finger at the floor, "I saw her hitting the Queen with that!"
Everyone looked where she was pointing. Resting near the pool of blood was a heavy piece of tal. Its thick head was covered in the Queen’s blood.
"I was so terrified that I ran out as fast as I could to call everyone for help," Monica lied, gazing at the King with fake tears. "Rebecca stayed inside with the body. She knew she was caught, so while I was gone fetching the crowd, she quickly laid down right next to the Queen. She faked her fainting on purpose! She wanted all of you to walk in and find her like this so she could pretend she was innocent!"
A sudden, sharp growl escaped King Kaden’s throat. Hearing Monica’s words seed to pierce right through his angry chest. The pitch-black color in his eyes suddenly broke, and for a split second, they filled with hot, heavy tears. The terrifying Alpha King looked completely broken.
"My mate was a human..." Kaden whispered, his voice cracking with a deep, unbearable pain that shook his entire fra. "A pregnant human. She had no wolf to protect her... and you killed her."
"I didn’t..." I choked out, tears burning my own eyes. "I didn’t do it..."
But he wasn’t listening. Consud by a fresh wave of pain and fury, Kaden violently threw away from him.
I flew through the air and hit the stone wall with a loud thud. A sharp, blinding pain exploded through my body as a few of my ribs snapped. I slid down to the floor, gasping for breath, blood trickling from the corner of my mouth.
Through the blur of my tears and the intense pain, I watched Kaden drop to his knees beside the dead Queen.
The terrifying, untouchable Alpha King crawled to her body and gathered her lifeless form into his massive arms, hugging her tightly against his chest. His large shoulders began to shake violently. Right there, in front of the entire Blood Moon Pack, the King sobbed. A deep, guttural cry of pure agony escaped his throat as he buried his face in her bloody hair, weeping for his lost family.
I painfully shifted my head, my eyes landing on Monica.
The fake tears had vanished from her face. Standing safely behind the mourning crowd, she was smirking at , a twisted look of victory in her eyes. Brandon stood beside her, keeping his expression blank, but his hands were trembling.
The sight of her smirk sparked a tiny mory in my battered mind. I closed my eyes, forcing my brain to fight through the darkness and recall what happened right before I passed out.
The mories ca back in sharp, blurry flashes. I rembered lying on the floor in pain after Brandon kicked . I rembered the beautiful pregnant Queen walking in, looking horrified. But I also rembered sothing else right before the darkness took .
I rembered Brandon approaching the Queen.
They did it!
Monica and Brandon hadn’t just beaten . To protect their own nas and ensure I could never speak, they had murdered the Alpha King’s human wife and frad for it.
The room beca completely quiet, except for the sound of King Kaden’s heavy, rough breathing. Slowly, he let go of his wife’s pale body. He stood up from the bloody floor, his huge body standing tall over everyone in the room.
His dark eyes were still filled with hot, angry tears, but the sad look on his face had quickly turned into pure, cold anger. The heartbreak was gone, replaced completely by a deadly desire to make pay.
He slowly turned his head away from the Queen and looked down at . The look in his eyes made my stomach drop. He looked like a man who was ready to rip the whole world apart.
"Take her out," King Kaden ordered, his deep voice echoing like thunder against the stone walls of the library. He pointed a large, shaking finger straight at . "Take her to the pack square and stone her to death."
