It felt like a farewell was taking place.

"Mom, what’s wrong? What’s happening?" Avery Jane’s heart slowly sunk, a sense of unease looming over her as if sothing bad was truly about to happen.

The third day, already the third day, could this curse really be coming true?

"It’s nothing, except that Evelyn is now Mr. Hughes’ woman. The master said he must give your stepmother an explanation, and I think it might not be a bad thing for to go to the temple to live a devout life and pray for Wenyard. It’s just that I’ve lived in this house for decades, and it’s filled with Wenyard’s presence. I’m really a bit reluctant to leave." Remi Wright choked as she spoke, having just returned from the mountain temple, only to be greeted by such a situation.

She should have figured it out long ago; Harper Johnson had been dreaming of becoming the lady of the house for quite so ti.

Now that her daughter had risen to power, the thing she feared had nonetheless happened.

"Mom, don’t leave just yet. Wait, let think." Avery Jane’s mind felt scrambled, like a tangled ss with no clear direction.

She didn’t know what was actually happening; everything felt like a dream. One mont she was peacefully sipping tea in the company lounge, the next, they were embroiled in trouble, and then a call like this made her feel as if a nightmare was finally beginning.

She seed to see a massive black hole, pulling her in with the strongest suction, making any attempts to escape futile.

"Tomorrow is the master’s birthday. He said he would announce this at the birthday banquet, so I have to leave before tomorrow. Avery, you must take care of yourself." Since Lucas Yates passed away, Remi had long lost her will to live, and this incident made her completely hopeless.

Though she and Arthur Yates didn’t have an especially loving marriage, they had spent so many years together, raising a son. Being driven out of the Yates Family was inevitably painful.

She didn’t dare say more, hanging up and discreetly wiping away tears.

Avery Jane didn’t have ti to speak before the call ended.

All that was left was the beeping, a sound that clearly conveyed the despair and sorrow of the person on the other end...

After the phone screen went dark, it lit up again. The pleasant ringtone nearly robbed Avery Jane of the courage to swipe the screen.

Her delicate fingers trembled as if it took all her courage to press the answer button. With shaking hands, she brought the phone to her ear: "Hello?"

"Mrs. Yates, our lab has been sold by the landlord. The landlord has vanished, and we can’t find him. The new landlord wants us to move out by tomorrow," said Lucas Yates’ forr assistant anxiously on the other end.

They were close to success now, and they knew Mrs. Yates had been desperately gathering funds. No one wanted to let her down, so they worked as quickly as possible, needing just one more year. But this unexpected situation caught everyone off guard.

"How can this be? We signed a ten-year lease for the entire floor. We have four years left. How can we move now?" Avery Jane couldn’t believe such an outrageous thing could happen.

"The new landlord said we could sue the original landlord and claim compensation according to the contract. But the contract was signed in the professor’s na, and he’s not here anymore. It would take a long ti to fight in court, and where would we move all this equipnt to?" The young man sounded desperate and hoarse.

Avery Jane bit her lip, "Who’s the new landlord?"

She had a suspicion, but she was afraid to confirm it, dreading to hear that na, yet the answer lood ominously in her heart. Could it be him?

"It’s a subsidiary real estate company under the Hughes Clan," Wenyard’s assistant said with resignation.

Just as she thought. There was no escaping it. Her despair felt like a gaping wound.

"Stop talking on the phone! Hang up imdiately. You can’t talk on the phone during questioning—do you want to be accused of collusion?" The officer stared at Avery Jane. This woman was indeed beautiful, but how did she get caught up in such trouble?

Logically speaking, this shouldn’t involve her. But since higher-ups demanded both be detained, he had no choice but to follow orders, no leniency possible.

"Avery, why don’t you ask Beckett to have a look at you? I forgot he’s been abroad all along and is only a designer. I’m afraid there’s not much he can do to help you, is there? Sotis money isn’t enough to make things happen, let alone soone who’s a foreign wannabe." Lisa’s bright smile was nearly blinding, vividly reminding her of the harsh realities of the world.

"Alright, if you’re willing to act according to Miss Lisa’s suggestion, publicly apologize to her in the company and admit you engaged in unfair trading to take a contract originally belonging to Miss Lisa, she will agree to settle. You only need to pay a small penalty of a hundred thousand. If you refuse, my record here will serve as evidence in court where you’re likely to lose." The officer smugly checked his notes, knowing they all favored Lisa.

"Just co over and sign the statent." The officer urged the process along, eager to wrap up the case.

"No way, that’s not the truth. We will not sign," Angela Scott exclaid, enraged by the statent that twisted facts, omitting crucial details, and dismissing the slap she received. It was sheer distortion, devoid of any sense of justice.

"Refusing to cooperate with police work is a serious offense, miss." The officer laughed derisively, having seen so many like her. Refuse to sign? Once they’re in the interrogation room, deprived of sleep and under bright lights, they all cave within hours, begging to comply, even stripping for a lewd dance if compelled.

"To lay a charge wrongly, words are never scarce. I demand a lawyer before signing," Angela said firmly, casting a glance at the dazed Avery.

She didn’t want to force her to approach Joshua Hughes because it was just a guess on her part. If wrong, she’d only embarrass herself further. She now regretted acting so rashly in anger.

Avery Jane rely felt weighed down by the heavy burden. She knew solving these problems was actually quite simple.

That man was waiting for her to bow down, waiting for her to strip and crawl into his bed. She knew the solution to all these troubles was to sell her body. If it ca to that, she’d be exactly like those she looked down on, like the arrogant Lisa before her.

She didn’t know what to do. She was nearing the brink of insanity, with so many sudden crises erging in such a short period, her heart was about to break under pressure.

Calm down. Stay calm.

She forced herself to think, clutching her phone tightly. Perhaps dialing a number could resolve everything.

It felt as if there was a scale in her heart, weighing the decision—call, not call—back and forth.

Up and down, the debate left her breathless.

That man must be the devil, a devil sent by heaven to tornt her. She only wanted to live her life quietly and fulfill her dreams with her own capabilities, nothing more. But since his appearance, so many things went wrong.

Every issue left her utterly helpless.
